There is nothing wrong with bringing your needs and petitions before God. But in today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds believers that when prayer does not begin with worship and adoration, we miss the transforming power of time spent in God’s presence.
Dr. Youssef shares four blessings of the praise-filled life. First, praise reveals our true spiritual condition, because Jesus said the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. When we praise God for His salvation, we are declaring our trust in the Gospel and our confidence that we belong to Him.
Second, praise reinforces our personal destiny. When we focus only on earthly troubles, we lose sight of our royal position as co-heirs with Christ. But when we bless the Lord daily for who He is and what He has done, our hearts are lifted from present problems to eternal glory.
Third, praise reestablishes God’s reign in our hearts. Psalm 22 tells us that God is enthroned on the praises of His people. When we praise His name, character, and attributes, we proclaim, “You are my sovereign authority. You are my King.”
Finally, praise reinforces our relationship with the Lord. Worship turns our eyes away from self-centeredness and back to the greatness of God’s grace. As we dwell on His strength, mercy, and unchanging love, we grow in humility, joy, and usefulness for His Kingdom.
