[00:00:00] Welcome back to Divine Stream Radio Podcast. I'm Jason Blakelock and today we're moving from Hebrews 9 into Hebrews chapter 10. And the big message is wonderfully simple. Jesus' sacrifice is finished so our faith shouldn't be stuck in repeated guilt. Hebrews 10 starts with a thought that follows neatly from chapter 9. Under the Old Covenant, the sacrifices were repeated.
[00:00:24] Year after year, priests came before God to offer the same kinds of sacrifices. And Hebrews doesn't deny that those sacrifices mattered. They were real worship. They were God's appointed way for a time. But then Hebrews asked the question, if those sacrifices could truly cleanse sin completely, wouldn't they stop?
[00:00:48] If the problem was fully solved, there would be no need for ongoing repeating sacrifices. The repetition itself is evidence, Hebrews is telling us, that the old system couldn't fully perfect the worshippers conscience. So what is the real problem Hebrews keeps pointing to? It's not only that sin happens, it's that sin creates a distance and it brings guilt into the heart. It makes people feel unclean, uncertain and like they have to keep starting over.
[00:01:17] Then Hebrews says something astonishing. When Christ came, he didn't offer more sacrifices like the old system. He offered himself. And this is where the chapter turns encouraging. Hebrews describes Jesus' sacrifice as something God has accepted, something final, something effective. Jesus is not repeating the work again and again. He has done what needed to be done once for all. So then Hebrews tells believers to draw a clear conclusion.
[00:01:45] Since Jesus' sacrifice is complete, we can approach God with confidence. Not confidence in ourselves, confidence in what God has done in Christ. Now Hebrews doesn't say, so live however you like. In fact, Hebrews sounds a warning to take sin seriously. But the warning isn't meant to crush you into despair. It's meant to keep you from drifting.
[00:02:05] Because Hebrews also talks about what happens when people slide away, when they treat God's grace like it's optional, when they stop holding tightly to what they've heard. The chapter emphasizes that God still cares deeply about truth, obedience and perseverance. And then this is one of the most hopeful parts. Hebrews points out that God changes people from the inside. Hebrews says that under the new covenant, God writes his law on the hearts of his people.
[00:02:33] That means forgiveness isn't just an idea. It becomes a relationship. God doesn't simply cover sin from the outside. He transforms the inward reality. He gives believers a new direction. So what does that look like day to day? Hebrews gives a practical picture of faith that holds steady. It's the kind of life that keeps trusting God. Even when you're facing pressure. Even when you're tempted to give up. Even when your feelings lag behind your faith.
[00:03:02] And Hebrews even encourages believers to keep encouraging one another. Because community matters. Spiritual endurance often grows through shared strength. So today, as we look at Hebrews 10, here's a simple takeaway you can carry with you. Jesus' work is finished. So don't live like you have to pay for sin again. If you've been wrestling with guilt, Hebrews offers relief. If you've been wondering, will God really accept me?
[00:03:28] Hebrews points to the finished sacrifice of Christ and says, in effect, yes, come to God. Draw near. And if you've been drifting, maybe not openly, but quietly, Hebrews calls you back with gentle seriousness. Hold fast. Keep trusting. Keep walking with God. So let's do that today. Step closer to God in faith and let the finished work of Jesus steady your conscience. Thanks for listening.
