Divine Stream Radio: Press On—Faith That Grows (Hebrews 6)

Join Jason Blaiklock in today’s episode of Divine Stream Radio as we walk through Hebrews 6. We’ll explore how the chapter calls us to move beyond spiritual “basics” toward maturity, repentance from dead works, and deeper understanding of resurrection and judgment. Then we’ll address the sobering warning against drifting after having tasted God’s truth, and end with the hope God anchors our souls with—steady, secure, and promised. [00:00:00] Hello and welcome to the Divine Stream Radio Podcast. I'm Jason Blakelock. I'm glad you've joined me today. Today's chapter is Hebrews 6 and it feels like the writer is both encouraging us to grow and also warning us not to drift away from what we know is true. Let's start with the first part of Hebrews 6. The author says, Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity. That doesn't mean throwing away faith in the basics. It means don't stay stuck there forever.

[00:00:29] It's like learning to walk. Yes, you learn step by step, but eventually you're meant to keep moving. So the chapter points us toward growth in faith. It talks about repentance from dead works, turning away from what spiritually doesn't produce life. It also mentions faith in God. And then it speaks about deeper foundations like understanding the resurrection and judgment.

[00:00:55] The message is God wants more than just initial enthusiasm. He wants maturity. Now the chapter takes a serious turn. The next verses describe people who have been close, people who have experienced real spiritual light, real closeness to God's truth, yet still choose to turn away.

[00:01:16] The language is strong because the danger is real. It's not saying that believers must constantly fear they've gone too far. Rather, it warns against a lifestyle of rejecting God after knowing better. And then we come to a key question. What does God want to do in response to our growth and our failures?

[00:01:37] The writer answers, God is faithful. He doesn't forget. Even when people wonder, God remembers the love they showed and the work they did for his people. Hebrews 6 then encourages us not to become sluggish, but to keep pressing on. It says that if we don't give up, we will inherit what God has promised. That's where hope comes in because hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is anchored.

[00:02:05] One of the most memorable images in this chapter is the idea of God's promise being like an anchor for the soul, firm, secure and steady. When life gets stormy, an anchor holds you and God's promise does that for your heart. So what's the takeaway from Hebrews 6? Move forward in your faith. Don't stay spiritually stuck.

[00:02:30] Take sin seriously and don't treat God's truth lightly. Hold on to hope because God's promise is dependable. If you've been growing, great, keep going. And if you've been distracted, discouraged or tempted to drift, today is a good day to turn again toward God. Hebrews 6 isn't written to crush you. It's written to strengthen you, to keep you moving toward maturity and to remind you that God's promises are solid.
