Sermon Snippet
Christ’s Second Coming
We’re going to amplify expound and explode Daniel chapter 11 for VS 40 through to 45 today!
Daniel 11:40–45 shifts the vision from historical empires (such as the Ptolemies and Seleucids) to "the time of the end," describing a final, dramatic clash between two geopolitical and spiritual forces.

Verse 40: The Climax Begins ("At the Time of the End")

  • The Action: The King of the South pushes or "gors" against the King of the North. In response, the King of the North sweeps down upon him “like a whirlwind” with chariots, horsemen, and ships, overflowing and passing through countries.

  • The Meaning:

    • The Time of the End: Marks the final era of human government before divine intervention.

    • The Collision: A provocation by the southern power triggers a massive, overwhelming military or ideological counter-offensive from the northern power.

Verses 41–43: Invasion of the Glorious Land and Conquest of Egypt

  • The Action:

    • The King of the North enters the "Glorious Land" (traditionally understood as Israel/the Holy Land), though Edom, Moab, and the main part of Ammon escape his grasp.

    • He stretches out his hand against various countries, and Egypt does not escape.

    • He gains mastery over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and all the precious things of Egypt, with the Libyans and Ethiopians in his steps.

  • The Meaning:

    • The northern power establishes dominance across the Middle East and North Africa, routing regional resistance and seizing economic and strategic resources.

    • The selective escape of Edom, Moab, and Ammon indicates that specific territories or groups are bypassed or spared during the campaign.

Verse 44: Rumors from the East and the North

  • The Action: “But rumors from the east and from the north will alarm and disturb him, and he will set out with great fury to destroy and to annihilate many.”

  • The Meaning:

    • Just as the conqueror reaches the height of his power, a new intelligence report or threat from the eastern and northern directions throws him into a panic.

    • Instead of backing down, he reacts with an explosive wave of wrath, lashing out violently to eliminate opposition.

Verse 45: The Final Stand and Doom

  • The Action: He pitches his royal/palatial tents “between the seas and the glorious Holy Mountain [Zion],” yet he will come to his end with no one to help him.

  • The Meaning:

    • He moves his command center or stronghold right toward the sacred region of Jerusalem/Zion.

    • Despite his vast conquests and supreme arrogance, his reign hits an absolute wall: divine judgment or a super-human intervention destroys him, and zero allies or powers are able to rescue him.

Major Interpretive Frameworks

  1. Futurist / Literal View: Views these verses as a yet-future, literal campaign in the Middle East involving a final world dictator (often labeled the Antichrist or a revived Roman/Assyrian coalition) clashing with southern/eastern confederacies before the return of Jesus Christ.

  2. Historicist / Adventist View: Interprets the "King of the North" and "King of the South" through a long-term historical lens (tracking Rome, the Papacy, secular/atheistic powers like revolutionary France, or Islamic/Ottoman dynamics), culminating in a global spiritual crisis and Christ's second coming.
