Why believe in God?

Passages:

00:00:00 --> 00:00:03 Do you believe in God?
00:00:05 --> 00:00:06 Why?
00:00:07 --> 00:00:10 Is it because everyone believes?
00:00:11 --> 00:00:16 Maybe you grew up in a family where your parents believed in God.
00:00:16 --> 00:00:20 They took you along to church, just like I've taken my children along to church this morning.
00:00:21 --> 00:00:26 And so you've just always believed that there was a God.
00:00:26 --> 00:00:31 Maybe there was a boy or girl at youth group.
00:00:31 --> 00:00:33 Maybe it was called youth fellowship in those days.
00:00:33 --> 00:00:35 And you started chasing them.
00:00:36 --> 00:00:40 And then you've just found yourself at church since then.
00:00:40 --> 00:00:41 Does anybody want to admit to that?
00:00:42 --> 00:00:43 No? Okay, maybe later.
00:00:45 --> 00:00:48 Why are you in a Christian church?
00:00:49 --> 00:00:52 You know, with worshipping and singing to the Christian God.
00:00:52 --> 00:00:54 You know, the Bible is an old book.
00:00:54 --> 00:00:58 Look, why do you believe what it says about God?
00:00:59 --> 00:01:04 Now these may seem like strange questions to be asked by your pastor.
00:01:04 --> 00:01:06 You know, you might just be expecting me to say,
00:01:06 --> 00:01:10 Shh, don't think too hard about why you believe in God.
00:01:11 --> 00:01:12 Just trust God.
00:01:12 --> 00:01:13 Don't use your brain.
00:01:14 --> 00:01:16 It's dangerous thinking too much.
00:01:16 --> 00:01:17 Just trust me.
00:01:17 --> 00:01:17 It's fine.
00:01:17 --> 00:01:18 Trust me.
00:01:18 --> 00:01:26 Christianity is not just about believing really hard and ignoring the world around us.
00:01:26 --> 00:01:33 Believing in the God of the Bible is not just about closing our eyes to the facts and having blind faith.
00:01:33 --> 00:01:37 I believe that Christianity is rigorous.
00:01:37 --> 00:01:42 It is a deep faith that can be studied and investigated.
00:01:43 --> 00:01:49 There's a famous saying about it that Christianity is shallow enough for a child to swim in,
00:01:49 --> 00:01:52 but also deep enough for an elephant to swim.
00:01:52 --> 00:01:58 But if you believe in God, do you know why?
00:01:59 --> 00:02:02 And if you don't believe in God, do you know why?
00:02:03 --> 00:02:10 You know, I don't know, but you know, if you're in the office or, you know, over coffee or at school or in the playground,
00:02:11 --> 00:02:15 have you ever been asked, why do you believe in God?
00:02:15 --> 00:02:17 Or why don't you believe in God?
00:02:18 --> 00:02:20 Do you have an answer to that question?
00:02:20 --> 00:02:21 Why do you believe in God?
00:02:23 --> 00:02:31 Is it possible that we haven't actually thought hard about what we believe in God?
00:02:31 --> 00:02:37 Maybe we thought about it years ago and we have just grown and matured with many assumptions.
00:02:38 --> 00:02:45 This season in church, we are looking at the foundational beliefs of Christianity.
00:02:45 --> 00:02:48 We're looking at a statement called the Apostles' Creed.
00:02:49 --> 00:02:55 This morning after we sang, as we stayed standing, we said this thing called the Apostles' Creed.
00:02:55 --> 00:03:03 You may be familiar with it because here at St. Paul's, we regularly declare that we believe this expression of who God is.
00:03:04 --> 00:03:09 Now, this creed dates back to about 300-400 AD.
00:03:10 --> 00:03:12 It wasn't written by the apostles,
00:03:12 --> 00:03:22 but it does reflect the early church's desire to express and summarise the faith given by the apostles.
00:03:23 --> 00:03:24 The Apostles' Creed is short.
00:03:25 --> 00:03:27 I'm not sure if you've thought of it being short,
00:03:27 --> 00:03:30 but there's many other creeds that are much longer.
00:03:30 --> 00:03:31 The Apostles' Creed is fairly short.
00:03:31 --> 00:03:38 It doesn't contain everything that we believe, but it is a great summary.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:44 It instructs and guides and defends what we believe.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:47 Now, Wendy, if you can pull up the creed that we had earlier,
00:03:48 --> 00:03:51 there's this repetition in the creed.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:55 It starts with, I believe in God.
00:03:55 --> 00:03:57 Skip over to the part about Jesus.
00:03:58 --> 00:04:00 I believe in Jesus.
00:04:01 --> 00:04:02 And then to the Holy Spirit.
00:04:03 --> 00:04:05 I believe in the Holy Spirit.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:05 Thank you, Wendy.
00:04:06 --> 00:04:12 It's this repetition throughout the Apostles' Creed that we believe in something.
00:04:14 --> 00:04:16 We believe that there is a God.
00:04:16 --> 00:04:23 We believe that there is a being who is so powerful that he could make the entire universe,
00:04:23 --> 00:04:27 that he is the judge, that he sustains everything.
00:04:28 --> 00:04:34 And today we're going to investigate whether there is any reason we should believe in a God.
00:04:35 --> 00:04:38 So first we're going to question why we should believe at all.
00:04:38 --> 00:04:43 And then we're going to be questioning about, well, why should we believe in the Christian God?
00:04:43 --> 00:04:47 So have your Bibles open.
00:04:47 --> 00:04:51 We're going to start in Romans 1, which Adrian read for us earlier.
00:04:51 --> 00:04:59 Starting in Romans 1, Paul, the Apostle, has sent a letter to the Roman church
00:04:59 --> 00:05:05 and he is talking about how God has revealed himself to all people.
00:05:05 --> 00:05:07 So from Romans 1, verse 18.
00:05:07 --> 00:05:15 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people
00:05:15 --> 00:05:19 who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
00:05:19 --> 00:05:22 since what may be known about God is plain to them,
00:05:23 --> 00:05:27 because God has made it plain to them.
00:05:28 --> 00:05:32 For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities,
00:05:32 --> 00:05:36 his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen,
00:05:36 --> 00:05:39 being understood from what has been made,
00:05:39 --> 00:05:42 so that people are without excuse.
00:05:43 --> 00:05:46 So Paul is talking about this phenomenon called general revelation,
00:05:47 --> 00:05:54 where God has revealed himself in a general way to all people on the earth that have ever existed.
00:05:55 --> 00:06:00 God has revealed himself to everyone, not specifically, but generally.
00:06:00 --> 00:06:05 Paul can say that just by looking at the world around us,
00:06:05 --> 00:06:07 you can be convinced that there is a God.
00:06:08 --> 00:06:10 God has made it plain to us.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:14 And he points to the creation of the world which shows God's power.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:19 And so as we consider this world that there is,
00:06:19 --> 00:06:23 we're going to see at least four reasons.
00:06:23 --> 00:06:27 There's four clues for us to believe that there is a God.
00:06:27 --> 00:06:31 Now this morning, this is a little bit of a different sermon.
00:06:31 --> 00:06:33 We're going to look at some science and some philosophy
00:06:33 --> 00:06:36 before we spend a little bit more time in the Bible.
00:06:36 --> 00:06:37 A little bit different.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:37 Go with me.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:39 I know it's early, but you'll cope, I'm sure.
00:06:40 --> 00:06:42 We're going to look at four clues that there is a God.
00:06:42 --> 00:06:44 The first being the Big Bang.
00:06:45 --> 00:06:50 The second is that there are perfect conditions for life on this planet.
00:06:50 --> 00:06:55 The third reason to believe that there is a God is that there is beauty.
00:06:56 --> 00:06:58 And the fourth is that we have morals.
00:06:59 --> 00:07:01 There are many more than these four,
00:07:01 --> 00:07:04 but these are just the ones I'm going to briefly be touching on this morning.
00:07:04 --> 00:07:07 I'd encourage you to read this book that my wife is going to pick up and hold for me
00:07:07 --> 00:07:09 because I forgot to bring it up.
00:07:10 --> 00:07:12 It should just be on the floor or next to you somewhere.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:13 There it is.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:14 Thank you, Lulu.
00:07:14 --> 00:07:16 This book that you might be able to see over there,
00:07:16 --> 00:07:19 it's called The Reason for God by a man called Tim Keller.
00:07:20 --> 00:07:22 He is a pastor in New York.
00:07:23 --> 00:07:27 And that's a really helpful book to dive deeper into this, if you would like.
00:07:28 --> 00:07:30 So we're going to see these four clues.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:33 The first of all, the first one is the Big Bang.
00:07:35 --> 00:07:39 And this really is questioning, well, why is there anything?
00:07:39 --> 00:07:40 Why is there something?
00:07:40 --> 00:07:42 Why is there anything physical?
00:07:42 --> 00:07:46 Where did the sandstone, is this sandstone?
00:07:46 --> 00:07:47 Is this sandstone?
00:07:47 --> 00:07:47 Does anybody know?
00:07:48 --> 00:07:49 Is this actual sandstone?
00:07:50 --> 00:07:51 No, it's not.
00:07:51 --> 00:07:52 I'm getting conflicting evidence.
00:07:53 --> 00:07:54 Oh, okay.
00:07:54 --> 00:07:55 It's fake.
00:07:55 --> 00:07:55 Okay.
00:07:55 --> 00:07:57 Where does whatever this is come from?
00:07:58 --> 00:08:01 Well, certainly it wasn't mined out of a quarry because it's not real sandstone.
00:08:01 --> 00:08:06 But where do any of these things around us that we see come from?
00:08:07 --> 00:08:09 Well, maybe they were in the ground originally,
00:08:09 --> 00:08:11 but where does that ground come from?
00:08:11 --> 00:08:13 Where does this planet come from?
00:08:13 --> 00:08:19 Stephen Hawking, the scientist, wrote, and I should have these quotes on the screen.
00:08:19 --> 00:08:19 Thank you, Wendy.
00:08:20 --> 00:08:27 That almost everyone now believes that the universe and time itself had a beginning at the Big Bang.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:32 Stephen Hawking is making this big claim that everything came from something.
00:08:32 --> 00:08:37 And so something sparked.
00:08:37 --> 00:08:44 There was a point where suddenly everything was and it flew through the universe that had now just been created
00:08:44 --> 00:08:50 and cooled and crashed together and became the origin of everything.
00:08:50 --> 00:08:57 Another scientist, a man by the name of Francis Collins, questions the origins of that Big Bang.
00:08:58 --> 00:08:59 He wrote,
00:08:59 --> 00:09:06 We have this very solid conclusion that the universe had an origin, the Big Bang.
00:09:07 --> 00:09:15 15 billion years ago, the universe began with an unimaginably bright flash of energy from an infinitesimally small point.
00:09:16 --> 00:09:20 That implies that before that, there was nothing.
00:09:20 --> 00:09:27 I can't imagine how nature, in this case the universe, could have created itself.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:34 And the very fact that universe had a beginning implies that someone was able to begin it.
00:09:35 --> 00:09:38 Something had to make the Big Bang happen.
00:09:38 --> 00:09:42 It had to be outside of nature, outside of the physical reality.
00:09:43 --> 00:09:45 Parents know this.
00:09:45 --> 00:09:53 If you've ever had a mess in your house and you've come in and there's several children there and you see the mess,
00:09:53 --> 00:09:55 you will say, where did this mess come from?
00:09:56 --> 00:10:00 And these children are very convinced at this point that the Big Bang created itself
00:10:00 --> 00:10:03 because they will say, I have no idea.
00:10:04 --> 00:10:05 This mess just appeared.
00:10:06 --> 00:10:07 It wasn't me.
00:10:07 --> 00:10:10 And it certainly was not my sibling.
00:10:10 --> 00:10:12 It just created itself.
00:10:12 --> 00:10:20 This is the first clue that there is a God because something must come from somewhere.
00:10:22 --> 00:10:29 The second clue to believe that there is a God is that on this life, on this planet that was created,
00:10:30 --> 00:10:33 there is a situation for life to flourish.
00:10:35 --> 00:10:37 You know, the universe is here, there's planets.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:43 But to have the right conditions for life to exist is incredibly specific.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:50 For organic life to exist, there must be so many things perfectly right.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:53 The speed of light has to be right.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:57 The sun has to be the exact right distance away from the earth,
00:10:57 --> 00:11:01 although it feels that over the last couple of days we've moved several hundred thousand meters closer.
00:11:01 --> 00:11:04 But we haven't melted into a puddle.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:08 And we're not too far that we are too cold.
00:11:09 --> 00:11:14 Gravity has to be constant so that it's not changing,
00:11:14 --> 00:11:19 so that in one point we're not being dragged down to the earth and then at another point floating off.
00:11:19 --> 00:11:30 We have the right amount of atmospheric pressure around us for liquid to be on the surface of the earth.
00:11:30 --> 00:11:32 We have the right ingredients.
00:11:32 --> 00:11:37 We have the mix of heavy elements and organic molecules for life.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:45 We have the right mixture on our planet of water and land so that we have both continents and oceans.
00:11:45 --> 00:11:49 Again, Stephen Hawking concludes,
00:11:51 --> 00:11:56 the odds against a universe like ours emerging out of the Big Bang are enormous.
00:11:57 --> 00:12:00 I think there are clearly religious implications.
00:12:00 --> 00:12:02 And then elsewhere he says,
00:12:02 --> 00:12:07 it would be very difficult to explain why the universe would have begun in just this way,
00:12:08 --> 00:12:13 except as the act of a God who intended to create beings like us.
00:12:13 --> 00:12:19 It is as if this planet was created for human life.
00:12:21 --> 00:12:22 This is the second clue.
00:12:23 --> 00:12:25 The first clue is that something came out of nothing.
00:12:26 --> 00:12:27 It must have been created.
00:12:28 --> 00:12:34 And this something has defied all the odds to actually be a place that could sustain life.
00:12:36 --> 00:12:40 Now, so far, the clues that we've seen to believe in a God have been scientific.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:44 Others will suggest that it is all just random.
00:12:45 --> 00:12:47 There are millions of planets in all of the galaxies.
00:12:48 --> 00:12:51 The one we are on just happens to have the right conditions.
00:12:52 --> 00:12:55 If there is no God and all of this is an accident,
00:12:56 --> 00:12:59 you know, we are accidents and there is no purpose for anything.
00:13:00 --> 00:13:06 Belief in God is just a way for humans to survive and pass on our DNA to others.
00:13:06 --> 00:13:09 The question then is, what about beauty?
00:13:10 --> 00:13:13 What about our emotions and love?
00:13:14 --> 00:13:19 Are they just chemical reactions in our brains and nothing else?
00:13:20 --> 00:13:24 So, is love real at all?
00:13:24 --> 00:13:25 You know, when I look at my wife,
00:13:26 --> 00:13:28 I missed you then, I was looking at Nick.
00:13:28 --> 00:13:28 He's not my wife.
00:13:29 --> 00:13:30 He's lovely.
00:13:30 --> 00:13:31 He's beauty itself.
00:13:31 --> 00:13:32 That's fine.
00:13:32 --> 00:13:35 But when I look at my wife, am I feeling anything real?
00:13:36 --> 00:13:38 Do I have any love for her and my kids?
00:13:38 --> 00:13:42 Or is it just chemicals in my brain tricking me
00:13:42 --> 00:13:45 so that I have children and pass on my DNA
00:13:45 --> 00:13:48 to further our species?
00:13:49 --> 00:13:54 Is there really no special significance to my wife and my kids?
00:13:54 --> 00:14:00 All of us experience some form of art,
00:14:00 --> 00:14:04 some ideas as profoundly beautiful.
00:14:05 --> 00:14:09 They are a mixture of desire and a sense of longing.
00:14:10 --> 00:14:14 Now, some argue that beauty has its origin in practical things.
00:14:15 --> 00:14:20 You know, the need to display ourselves to attract a mate like a...
00:14:20 --> 00:14:22 What's the bird that does that with the big...
00:14:22 --> 00:14:24 I was going to say pelican, but it's not that one.
00:14:24 --> 00:14:24 A peacock.
00:14:24 --> 00:14:25 Thank you.
00:14:25 --> 00:14:25 Thank you.
00:14:25 --> 00:14:27 Am I just peacocking up here?
00:14:27 --> 00:14:30 Is that all that beauty is?
00:14:30 --> 00:14:32 It's just to find a mate.
00:14:33 --> 00:14:35 But when we find something beautiful,
00:14:36 --> 00:14:38 it is often not functional.
00:14:39 --> 00:14:42 But because it reflects the one who made it.
00:14:42 --> 00:14:45 It's a recognition that the world around us was made good,
00:14:46 --> 00:14:48 but it has been corrupted.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:51 Ugliness is not inherent,
00:14:51 --> 00:14:53 but just as Paul said in Romans 1,
00:14:53 --> 00:14:57 God's invisible qualities are seen in his creation.
00:14:59 --> 00:15:03 His goodness and desire to have us enjoy beauty
00:15:03 --> 00:15:04 is for the sake of beauty.
00:15:05 --> 00:15:09 I have not chosen to find the sunrise beautiful
00:15:09 --> 00:15:12 because it helps me in any particular way,
00:15:13 --> 00:15:15 but because it reflects the one who made it.
00:15:15 --> 00:15:19 People in politics often talk about the pub test.
00:15:20 --> 00:15:21 Have you heard of the pub test?
00:15:22 --> 00:15:25 The pub test is just our gut feel.
00:15:25 --> 00:15:27 What do people...
00:15:27 --> 00:15:29 What does a random group of people think?
00:15:29 --> 00:15:31 They talk about the pub test when it talks to politicians.
00:15:31 --> 00:15:34 Oh, you know, this guy's policy fails the pub test
00:15:34 --> 00:15:36 because it just doesn't follow common sense.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:40 I don't think that thinking about beauty
00:15:40 --> 00:15:43 from just an evolutionary standpoint
00:15:43 --> 00:15:44 passes the pub test.
00:15:46 --> 00:15:46 I don't think...
00:15:46 --> 00:15:50 I'm not happy just to say that everything I do
00:15:50 --> 00:15:51 and the way I love my wife
00:15:51 --> 00:15:53 and the way I find beauty,
00:15:53 --> 00:15:55 and, you know, you look at these stained glass windows
00:15:55 --> 00:15:56 and you think they're beautiful,
00:15:56 --> 00:15:58 or the way I love my children,
00:15:58 --> 00:16:02 I don't think that that could just be chemical reactions.
00:16:02 --> 00:16:05 I don't think it passes our experience.
00:16:06 --> 00:16:10 Those we love are more than what our brain
00:16:10 --> 00:16:12 could be tricked into doing.
00:16:13 --> 00:16:14 I think this is the third clue
00:16:14 --> 00:16:17 that there is something beyond the physical,
00:16:17 --> 00:16:19 that there is beauty that we find
00:16:19 --> 00:16:22 which can't just be connected to evolution.
00:16:24 --> 00:16:26 The fourth reason, the fourth clue
00:16:26 --> 00:16:27 to believe that there is a God
00:16:27 --> 00:16:29 is that we have morals.
00:16:29 --> 00:16:33 We give humans dignity
00:16:33 --> 00:16:36 and we fight for human rights.
00:16:37 --> 00:16:39 But where do our beliefs
00:16:39 --> 00:16:41 about what is right and wrong come from?
00:16:42 --> 00:16:44 Have they just evolved with humans
00:16:44 --> 00:16:47 and are now about taking care of the community?
00:16:49 --> 00:16:52 All human beings have moral feelings.
00:16:53 --> 00:16:54 We call it a conscience.
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 When we consider doing an act
00:16:56 --> 00:16:58 that we think would be wrong,
00:16:58 --> 00:17:00 something in our brain,
00:17:01 --> 00:17:02 something in the way we are made,
00:17:03 --> 00:17:05 will encourage us to refrain.
00:17:05 --> 00:17:07 It doesn't mean we always do it,
00:17:07 --> 00:17:09 but we have an inbuilt sense
00:17:09 --> 00:17:10 of what is right and what is wrong.
00:17:12 --> 00:17:14 But these standards also sit outside of us.
00:17:15 --> 00:17:20 So 1939, when the Nazis went to war,
00:17:20 --> 00:17:22 when they were killing Jews,
00:17:22 --> 00:17:25 they didn't think there was a problem.
00:17:26 --> 00:17:28 They didn't think there was a moral issue.
00:17:29 --> 00:17:31 They actually thought it was morally right
00:17:31 --> 00:17:32 to do that.
00:17:33 --> 00:17:34 Everybody else, however,
00:17:34 --> 00:17:36 seemed to have an issue.
00:17:37 --> 00:17:38 You know, England,
00:17:39 --> 00:17:40 the United States,
00:17:40 --> 00:17:41 Australia,
00:17:41 --> 00:17:43 didn't just sit back and go,
00:17:43 --> 00:17:45 well, your morals are fine for you,
00:17:45 --> 00:17:47 you have created that system
00:17:47 --> 00:17:47 of what is right,
00:17:48 --> 00:17:48 you do that.
00:17:48 --> 00:17:50 We went, no, no, no, no.
00:17:50 --> 00:17:52 It is not right to kill a person
00:17:52 --> 00:17:53 just because of their ethnicity.
00:17:54 --> 00:17:56 And so World War II happened.
00:17:58 --> 00:17:59 We don't care if they felt
00:17:59 --> 00:18:00 there was a problem with us
00:18:00 --> 00:18:03 enforcing our morals on someone else.
00:18:03 --> 00:18:05 Morals sit outside of us
00:18:05 --> 00:18:06 and a war was fought.
00:18:08 --> 00:18:09 Evolutionists would argue
00:18:09 --> 00:18:10 that morals have helped
00:18:10 --> 00:18:14 to help us take care of our own
00:18:14 --> 00:18:15 so that our species continues.
00:18:15 --> 00:18:18 But when I walk past a person
00:18:18 --> 00:18:21 who is not from my community,
00:18:21 --> 00:18:22 say a homeless person,
00:18:22 --> 00:18:24 who is not from my community,
00:18:25 --> 00:18:27 I feel an obligation to help them,
00:18:27 --> 00:18:29 a moral obligation.
00:18:29 --> 00:18:31 Even though it is not going to help me
00:18:31 --> 00:18:33 or the continuation of my community,
00:18:34 --> 00:18:35 those who are outside,
00:18:35 --> 00:18:37 I still feel an obligation.
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 In evolutionary biology,
00:18:41 --> 00:18:44 they speak of the violence
00:18:44 --> 00:18:45 inherent in it.
00:18:45 --> 00:18:47 If a species is to survive,
00:18:47 --> 00:18:49 it is only because it will
00:18:49 --> 00:18:50 kill other species.
00:18:52 --> 00:18:53 Violence in nature
00:18:53 --> 00:18:54 is totally natural.
00:18:55 --> 00:18:57 And so why isn't it okay
00:18:57 --> 00:18:59 for strong humans
00:18:59 --> 00:19:00 to kill weak humans?
00:19:00 --> 00:19:05 It seems disgusting
00:19:05 --> 00:19:07 to even suggest that.
00:19:08 --> 00:19:10 If the world was made by
00:19:10 --> 00:19:11 a God of peace
00:19:11 --> 00:19:13 and justice
00:19:13 --> 00:19:14 and love,
00:19:14 --> 00:19:15 then that is how we know
00:19:15 --> 00:19:16 that violence
00:19:16 --> 00:19:17 and oppression
00:19:17 --> 00:19:18 and hate are wrong.
00:19:19 --> 00:19:20 If you believe in human rights,
00:19:21 --> 00:19:23 then it makes so much more sense
00:19:23 --> 00:19:24 to believe that there is a God
00:19:24 --> 00:19:27 who He has created us
00:19:27 --> 00:19:30 in His image,
00:19:30 --> 00:19:31 in His beauty
00:19:31 --> 00:19:32 and that is why we
00:19:32 --> 00:19:33 are valuable.
00:19:35 --> 00:19:36 This is the fourth clue
00:19:36 --> 00:19:37 that there is a God,
00:19:37 --> 00:19:39 that we consider humans
00:19:39 --> 00:19:40 of more worth than animals.
00:19:40 --> 00:19:41 Now,
00:19:41 --> 00:19:42 I've only briefly touched
00:19:42 --> 00:19:43 on all of these.
00:19:44 --> 00:19:44 Please,
00:19:44 --> 00:19:45 talk to me later
00:19:45 --> 00:19:46 if you want to look at these.
00:19:46 --> 00:19:47 Get Tim Keller's
00:19:47 --> 00:19:48 The Reason for God
00:19:48 --> 00:19:49 to investigate these.
00:19:50 --> 00:19:52 But maybe the Big Bang
00:19:52 --> 00:19:53 caused itself to happen.
00:19:54 --> 00:19:55 Maybe we're just in a world
00:19:55 --> 00:19:57 that won the lottery
00:19:57 --> 00:19:58 when it came to odds
00:19:58 --> 00:19:59 and it's just
00:19:59 --> 00:20:01 really convenient
00:20:01 --> 00:20:02 that this world
00:20:02 --> 00:20:03 had the right conditions
00:20:03 --> 00:20:03 for life.
00:20:04 --> 00:20:05 Maybe beauty
00:20:05 --> 00:20:06 is meaningless.
00:20:07 --> 00:20:08 Maybe morals
00:20:08 --> 00:20:10 aren't a good enough reason.
00:20:10 --> 00:20:11 But all of these
00:20:11 --> 00:20:12 are questions
00:20:12 --> 00:20:13 that we have
00:20:13 --> 00:20:14 to wrestle with.
00:20:16 --> 00:20:17 I think it actually
00:20:17 --> 00:20:18 takes more faith
00:20:18 --> 00:20:20 to believe against these.
00:20:21 --> 00:20:22 People often say,
00:20:22 --> 00:20:25 I wish I had
00:20:25 --> 00:20:26 your faith
00:20:26 --> 00:20:27 to believe in God.
00:20:27 --> 00:20:28 I wish I had
00:20:28 --> 00:20:29 as much faith as you.
00:20:29 --> 00:20:30 I just don't have
00:20:30 --> 00:20:31 that kind of faith.
00:20:31 --> 00:20:32 I wish I could believe
00:20:32 --> 00:20:33 in God like you
00:20:33 --> 00:20:33 but I just don't have
00:20:33 --> 00:20:34 that much faith.
00:20:35 --> 00:20:36 I actually think
00:20:36 --> 00:20:38 it takes more faith.
00:20:38 --> 00:20:39 I think it's a bigger
00:20:39 --> 00:20:40 leap of faith
00:20:40 --> 00:20:42 to believe that
00:20:42 --> 00:20:43 something could come
00:20:43 --> 00:20:43 from nothing.
00:20:45 --> 00:20:46 I believe that
00:20:46 --> 00:20:47 it's not consistent
00:20:47 --> 00:20:48 with everything
00:20:48 --> 00:20:49 we see around us.
00:20:49 --> 00:20:50 It's still a really
00:20:50 --> 00:20:52 big leap of faith
00:20:52 --> 00:20:53 to think that the earth
00:20:53 --> 00:20:55 just so happens
00:20:55 --> 00:20:56 to have all the exact
00:20:56 --> 00:20:57 conditions for life
00:20:57 --> 00:20:58 to flourish and function
00:20:58 --> 00:21:00 just by pure chance.
00:21:00 --> 00:21:01 I think that's a really
00:21:01 --> 00:21:02 big leap to take.
00:21:03 --> 00:21:05 It's a big leap of faith
00:21:05 --> 00:21:05 to think that beauty
00:21:05 --> 00:21:07 and morals
00:21:07 --> 00:21:08 are part of an
00:21:08 --> 00:21:09 evolutionary advantage.
00:21:11 --> 00:21:12 Believing that there
00:21:12 --> 00:21:13 is a God
00:21:13 --> 00:21:15 takes less faith
00:21:15 --> 00:21:16 than believing
00:21:16 --> 00:21:17 there is not.
00:21:17 --> 00:21:19 I think there is
00:21:19 --> 00:21:19 more reason
00:21:19 --> 00:21:20 to believe in God
00:21:20 --> 00:21:22 just by looking
00:21:22 --> 00:21:23 around the world
00:21:23 --> 00:21:25 as Paul said to us
00:21:25 --> 00:21:26 in Romans 1.
00:21:27 --> 00:21:28 Instead of the Christian
00:21:28 --> 00:21:29 closing their eyes
00:21:29 --> 00:21:29 to science
00:21:29 --> 00:21:30 and just being
00:21:30 --> 00:21:31 a blind faith
00:21:31 --> 00:21:32 I believe it's
00:21:32 --> 00:21:33 the opposite.
00:21:33 --> 00:21:34 I believe that all
00:21:34 --> 00:21:35 the evidence
00:21:35 --> 00:21:37 points to a God.
00:21:38 --> 00:21:39 But that is just
00:21:39 --> 00:21:40 an argument
00:21:40 --> 00:21:42 to believe in a God.
00:21:42 --> 00:21:44 Why should we believe
00:21:44 --> 00:21:45 in the Christian God?
00:21:49 --> 00:21:50 First of all
00:21:50 --> 00:21:52 it's really helpful
00:21:52 --> 00:21:54 that God has
00:21:54 --> 00:21:54 revealed himself.
00:21:55 --> 00:21:56 Jesus came
00:21:56 --> 00:21:57 to make this
00:21:57 --> 00:21:59 unknown God
00:21:59 --> 00:21:59 known.
00:22:00 --> 00:22:01 We see God
00:22:01 --> 00:22:02 revealing himself
00:22:02 --> 00:22:03 throughout the Old Testament
00:22:03 --> 00:22:04 but then he reveals
00:22:04 --> 00:22:06 himself fully
00:22:06 --> 00:22:07 in Jesus.
00:22:07 --> 00:22:08 The God who created
00:22:08 --> 00:22:09 the universe
00:22:09 --> 00:22:10 the one who
00:22:10 --> 00:22:11 made this planet
00:22:11 --> 00:22:12 with the right conditions
00:22:12 --> 00:22:12 to live
00:22:12 --> 00:22:13 the one who made
00:22:13 --> 00:22:13 beauty
00:22:13 --> 00:22:14 the one who made
00:22:14 --> 00:22:15 morals
00:22:15 --> 00:22:16 who made us
00:22:16 --> 00:22:17 in his image
00:22:17 --> 00:22:18 Jesus came
00:22:18 --> 00:22:19 to make this God
00:22:19 --> 00:22:19 known.
00:22:21 --> 00:22:22 Now we're going
00:22:22 --> 00:22:22 to read from
00:22:22 --> 00:22:23 John 14
00:22:23 --> 00:22:24 verse 1
00:22:24 --> 00:22:25 and it seems
00:22:25 --> 00:22:25 I've forgotten
00:22:25 --> 00:22:26 everything this morning
00:22:26 --> 00:22:27 I left my book
00:22:27 --> 00:22:27 down here
00:22:27 --> 00:22:28 I left my last
00:22:28 --> 00:22:29 couple pages
00:22:29 --> 00:22:29 of my sermon
00:22:29 --> 00:22:30 down here
00:22:30 --> 00:22:31 Thank you
00:22:31 --> 00:22:31 Lulu
00:22:31 --> 00:22:32 Lulu's trying
00:22:32 --> 00:22:32 to read it
00:22:32 --> 00:22:33 for me
00:22:33 --> 00:22:35 So please
00:22:35 --> 00:22:35 we're going
00:22:35 --> 00:22:35 to read from
00:22:35 --> 00:22:36 John 14
00:22:36 --> 00:22:37 verse 1 and 2
00:22:37 --> 00:22:40 Do not let
00:22:40 --> 00:22:41 your hearts
00:22:41 --> 00:22:41 be troubled
00:22:41 --> 00:22:43 You believe
00:22:43 --> 00:22:44 in God
00:22:44 --> 00:22:46 believe also
00:22:46 --> 00:22:46 in me
00:22:46 --> 00:22:48 My father's
00:22:48 --> 00:22:48 house has
00:22:48 --> 00:22:49 many rooms
00:22:49 --> 00:22:50 if that were
00:22:50 --> 00:22:50 not so
00:22:50 --> 00:22:50 I would have
00:22:50 --> 00:22:51 told you
00:22:51 --> 00:22:52 I was going
00:22:52 --> 00:22:52 to prepare
00:22:52 --> 00:22:52 a place
00:22:52 --> 00:22:53 for you
00:22:53 --> 00:22:54 So Jesus
00:22:54 --> 00:22:55 has been
00:22:55 --> 00:22:56 with God
00:22:56 --> 00:22:57 for eternity
00:22:57 --> 00:22:58 He says
00:22:58 --> 00:22:59 that he is
00:22:59 --> 00:22:59 going to
00:22:59 --> 00:23:00 prepare God's
00:23:00 --> 00:23:00 place
00:23:00 --> 00:23:01 his house
00:23:01 --> 00:23:01 which has
00:23:01 --> 00:23:02 many rooms
00:23:02 --> 00:23:03 he must
00:23:03 --> 00:23:03 have been
00:23:03 --> 00:23:04 there
00:23:04 --> 00:23:05 Jesus
00:23:05 --> 00:23:06 must have
00:23:06 --> 00:23:07 been at
00:23:07 --> 00:23:07 God's
00:23:07 --> 00:23:07 side
00:23:07 --> 00:23:08 to know
00:23:08 --> 00:23:08 what it
00:23:08 --> 00:23:09 was like
00:23:09 --> 00:23:10 and this
00:23:10 --> 00:23:11 is why
00:23:11 --> 00:23:11 Jesus
00:23:11 --> 00:23:12 repeatedly
00:23:12 --> 00:23:12 calls God
00:23:12 --> 00:23:13 his father
00:23:13 --> 00:23:14 he has
00:23:14 --> 00:23:14 a unique
00:23:14 --> 00:23:15 relationship
00:23:15 --> 00:23:16 with him
00:23:16 --> 00:23:17 he has
00:23:17 --> 00:23:17 known him
00:23:17 --> 00:23:18 for eternity
00:23:18 --> 00:23:18 and has
00:23:18 --> 00:23:19 come to
00:23:19 --> 00:23:19 reveal him
00:23:19 --> 00:23:20 to us
00:23:20 --> 00:23:21 and Jesus
00:23:21 --> 00:23:21 makes this
00:23:21 --> 00:23:22 really exclusive
00:23:22 --> 00:23:23 claim
00:23:23 --> 00:23:24 in verse 6
00:23:24 --> 00:23:25 of John 14
00:23:25 --> 00:23:26 Jesus answered
00:23:26 --> 00:23:27 I am
00:23:27 --> 00:23:28 the way
00:23:28 --> 00:23:30 and the truth
00:23:30 --> 00:23:30 and the life
00:23:30 --> 00:23:32 no one
00:23:32 --> 00:23:32 comes to the
00:23:32 --> 00:23:33 father
00:23:33 --> 00:23:33 except through
00:23:33 --> 00:23:34 me
00:23:34 --> 00:23:35 if you
00:23:35 --> 00:23:35 really know
00:23:35 --> 00:23:36 me
00:23:36 --> 00:23:36 you will
00:23:36 --> 00:23:36 know
00:23:36 --> 00:23:37 my father
00:23:37 --> 00:23:37 as well
00:23:37 --> 00:23:39 from now
00:23:39 --> 00:23:39 on
00:23:39 --> 00:23:40 you do
00:23:40 --> 00:23:40 know
00:23:40 --> 00:23:43 you do
00:23:43 --> 00:23:44 know him
00:23:44 --> 00:23:44 and have
00:23:44 --> 00:23:45 seen him
00:23:45 --> 00:23:45 I typed
00:23:45 --> 00:23:45 that up
00:23:45 --> 00:23:45 wrong
00:23:45 --> 00:23:47 Jesus
00:23:47 --> 00:23:48 is the
00:23:48 --> 00:23:48 way
00:23:48 --> 00:23:49 the truth
00:23:49 --> 00:23:49 and the
00:23:49 --> 00:23:49 life
00:23:49 --> 00:23:50 now you
00:23:50 --> 00:23:50 might
00:23:50 --> 00:23:50 remember
00:23:50 --> 00:23:50 this
00:23:50 --> 00:23:51 from Sunday
00:23:51 --> 00:23:51 school
00:23:51 --> 00:23:52 this is
00:23:52 --> 00:23:52 one of
00:23:52 --> 00:23:53 those
00:23:53 --> 00:23:53 Bible
00:23:53 --> 00:23:54 verses
00:23:54 --> 00:23:54 that stick
00:23:54 --> 00:23:55 in our
00:23:55 --> 00:23:55 heads
00:23:55 --> 00:23:55 Jesus
00:23:55 --> 00:23:56 is the
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 way
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 the
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 truth
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 and
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 the
00:23:56 --> 00:23:56 life
00:23:56 --> 00:23:57 but
00:23:57 --> 00:23:57 Jesus
00:23:57 --> 00:23:58 is
00:23:58 --> 00:23:58 the
00:23:58 --> 00:23:58 truth
00:23:58 --> 00:23:59 because
00:23:59 --> 00:23:59 he
00:23:59 --> 00:24:00 is
00:24:00 --> 00:24:00 the
00:24:00 --> 00:24:01 ultimate
00:24:01 --> 00:24:01 revelation
00:24:01 --> 00:24:02 of God
00:24:02 --> 00:24:02 himself
00:24:02 --> 00:24:04 he is
00:24:04 --> 00:24:04 God's
00:24:04 --> 00:24:05 word
00:24:05 --> 00:24:05 made
00:24:05 --> 00:24:06 flesh
00:24:06 --> 00:24:08 words
00:24:08 --> 00:24:08 are how
00:24:08 --> 00:24:09 we
00:24:09 --> 00:24:09 communicate
00:24:09 --> 00:24:10 ourselves
00:24:10 --> 00:24:11 you know
00:24:11 --> 00:24:12 me
00:24:12 --> 00:24:12 you know
00:24:12 --> 00:24:13 the things
00:24:13 --> 00:24:13 that I
00:24:13 --> 00:24:13 like
00:24:13 --> 00:24:13 and my
00:24:13 --> 00:24:14 preference
00:24:14 --> 00:24:15 because
00:24:15 --> 00:24:16 I speak
00:24:16 --> 00:24:17 you can
00:24:17 --> 00:24:17 know
00:24:17 --> 00:24:17 what I
00:24:17 --> 00:24:18 like
00:24:18 --> 00:24:18 what I
00:24:18 --> 00:24:18 don't
00:24:18 --> 00:24:19 like
00:24:19 --> 00:24:20 you can
00:24:20 --> 00:24:20 know
00:24:20 --> 00:24:20 my
00:24:20 --> 00:24:21 character
00:24:21 --> 00:24:22 whether I
00:24:22 --> 00:24:23 speak the
00:24:23 --> 00:24:23 truth
00:24:23 --> 00:24:23 or I
00:24:23 --> 00:24:23 speak
00:24:23 --> 00:24:24 lies
00:24:24 --> 00:24:24 whether I
00:24:24 --> 00:24:25 put down
00:24:25 --> 00:24:25 other
00:24:25 --> 00:24:26 people
00:24:26 --> 00:24:27 you can
00:24:27 --> 00:24:27 know me
00:24:27 --> 00:24:27 by my
00:24:27 --> 00:24:28 words
00:24:28 --> 00:24:30 and this
00:24:30 --> 00:24:30 is who
00:24:30 --> 00:24:31 God is
00:24:31 --> 00:24:32 Jesus
00:24:32 --> 00:24:32 is
00:24:32 --> 00:24:33 God's
00:24:33 --> 00:24:33 word
00:24:33 --> 00:24:34 and that
00:24:34 --> 00:24:35 helps us
00:24:35 --> 00:24:36 that
00:24:36 --> 00:24:37 reveals him
00:24:37 --> 00:24:37 to us
00:24:37 --> 00:24:39 we know
00:24:39 --> 00:24:40 who God
00:24:40 --> 00:24:40 is because
00:24:40 --> 00:24:41 he has
00:24:41 --> 00:24:41 spoken to
00:24:41 --> 00:24:41 us
00:24:41 --> 00:24:42 in
00:24:42 --> 00:24:42 Jesus
00:24:42 --> 00:24:44 he speaks
00:24:44 --> 00:24:45 and reveals
00:24:45 --> 00:24:46 himself to
00:24:46 --> 00:24:46 us
00:24:46 --> 00:24:47 in Jesus
00:24:47 --> 00:24:48 and now
00:24:48 --> 00:24:49 Jesus is
00:24:49 --> 00:24:49 not just
00:24:49 --> 00:24:50 the way
00:24:50 --> 00:24:51 to God
00:24:51 --> 00:24:52 he doesn't
00:24:52 --> 00:24:52 say follow
00:24:52 --> 00:24:53 me I
00:24:53 --> 00:24:54 know where
00:24:54 --> 00:24:54 God is
00:24:54 --> 00:24:55 come and
00:24:55 --> 00:24:55 follow me
00:24:55 --> 00:24:56 and I'll
00:24:56 --> 00:24:56 take you
00:24:56 --> 00:24:56 to him
00:24:56 --> 00:24:57 he says
00:24:57 --> 00:24:58 I am
00:24:58 --> 00:24:59 the way
00:24:59 --> 00:24:59 itself
00:24:59 --> 00:25:01 he is
00:25:01 --> 00:25:03 the way
00:25:03 --> 00:25:04 not a
00:25:04 --> 00:25:05 way
00:25:05 --> 00:25:07 he is
00:25:07 --> 00:25:07 the only
00:25:07 --> 00:25:08 way
00:25:08 --> 00:25:09 to God
00:25:09 --> 00:25:10 so if
00:25:10 --> 00:25:11 we ignore
00:25:11 --> 00:25:11 Jesus
00:25:11 --> 00:25:12 we ignore
00:25:12 --> 00:25:13 God
00:25:13 --> 00:25:15 you can't
00:25:15 --> 00:25:15 know
00:25:15 --> 00:25:16 God
00:25:16 --> 00:25:16 if you
00:25:16 --> 00:25:17 don't
00:25:17 --> 00:25:17 know
00:25:17 --> 00:25:18 Jesus
00:25:18 --> 00:25:18 we can
00:25:18 --> 00:25:19 see all
00:25:19 --> 00:25:19 of those
00:25:19 --> 00:25:20 reasons
00:25:20 --> 00:25:20 that we've
00:25:20 --> 00:25:20 seen before
00:25:20 --> 00:25:21 we can
00:25:21 --> 00:25:21 look at
00:25:21 --> 00:25:21 all those
00:25:21 --> 00:25:22 clues
00:25:22 --> 00:25:23 that there
00:25:23 --> 00:25:23 is a
00:25:23 --> 00:25:24 God
00:25:24 --> 00:25:24 behind
00:25:24 --> 00:25:24 this
00:25:24 --> 00:25:25 universe
00:25:25 --> 00:25:27 but unless
00:25:27 --> 00:25:28 we believe
00:25:28 --> 00:25:28 in Jesus
00:25:28 --> 00:25:29 we won't
00:25:29 --> 00:25:29 know
00:25:29 --> 00:25:31 the God
00:25:31 --> 00:25:31 who has
00:25:31 --> 00:25:31 made it
00:25:31 --> 00:25:33 you can't
00:25:33 --> 00:25:34 know God
00:25:34 --> 00:25:34 if you
00:25:34 --> 00:25:35 don't know
00:25:35 --> 00:25:35 Jesus
00:25:35 --> 00:25:35 he has
00:25:35 --> 00:25:36 spoken
00:25:36 --> 00:25:37 and made
00:25:37 --> 00:25:37 himself
00:25:37 --> 00:25:37 known
00:25:37 --> 00:25:39 now
00:25:39 --> 00:25:39 at this
00:25:39 --> 00:25:40 point
00:25:40 --> 00:25:40 you might
00:25:40 --> 00:25:40 be
00:25:40 --> 00:25:40 thinking
00:25:40 --> 00:25:42 why
00:25:42 --> 00:25:42 should
00:25:42 --> 00:25:43 we care
00:25:43 --> 00:25:43 about
00:25:43 --> 00:25:44 Jesus
00:25:44 --> 00:25:44 even
00:25:44 --> 00:25:44 if
00:25:44 --> 00:25:45 there
00:25:45 --> 00:25:45 is
00:25:45 --> 00:25:45 a
00:25:45 --> 00:25:45 God
00:25:45 --> 00:25:46 why
00:25:46 --> 00:25:46 should
00:25:46 --> 00:25:46 I
00:25:46 --> 00:25:46 care
00:25:46 --> 00:25:47 about
00:25:47 --> 00:25:47 Jesus
00:25:47 --> 00:25:47 who
00:25:47 --> 00:25:47 lived
00:25:47 --> 00:25:48 2000
00:25:48 --> 00:25:48 years
00:25:48 --> 00:25:49 ago
00:25:49 --> 00:25:50 and I
00:25:50 --> 00:25:50 think
00:25:50 --> 00:25:50 that's
00:25:50 --> 00:25:50 a really
00:25:50 --> 00:25:50 good
00:25:50 --> 00:25:51 question
00:25:51 --> 00:25:51 that's
00:25:51 --> 00:25:51 a really
00:25:51 --> 00:25:52 valid
00:25:52 --> 00:25:52 question
00:25:52 --> 00:25:54 and all
00:25:54 --> 00:25:55 of this
00:25:55 --> 00:25:55 hangs on
00:25:55 --> 00:25:57 one part
00:25:57 --> 00:25:57 of the
00:25:57 --> 00:25:57 Bible
00:25:57 --> 00:25:58 one part
00:25:58 --> 00:25:58 of the
00:25:58 --> 00:25:59 story
00:25:59 --> 00:25:59 it's
00:25:59 --> 00:26:00 called
00:26:00 --> 00:26:00 the
00:26:00 --> 00:26:00 resurrection
00:26:00 --> 00:26:02 Jesus
00:26:02 --> 00:26:03 God
00:26:03 --> 00:26:03 himself
00:26:03 --> 00:26:04 came
00:26:04 --> 00:26:04 to make
00:26:04 --> 00:26:04 his
00:26:04 --> 00:26:05 father
00:26:05 --> 00:26:05 known
00:26:05 --> 00:26:05 to
00:26:05 --> 00:26:05 us
00:26:05 --> 00:26:07 brutally
00:26:07 --> 00:26:07 murdered
00:26:07 --> 00:26:07 on a
00:26:07 --> 00:26:08 cross
00:26:08 --> 00:26:09 placed
00:26:09 --> 00:26:10 into
00:26:10 --> 00:26:10 a
00:26:10 --> 00:26:10 tomb
00:26:10 --> 00:26:11 and was
00:26:11 --> 00:26:11 dead
00:26:11 --> 00:26:13 killed
00:26:13 --> 00:26:13 by the
00:26:13 --> 00:26:14 Roman
00:26:14 --> 00:26:14 experts
00:26:14 --> 00:26:15 in
00:26:15 --> 00:26:16 killing
00:26:16 --> 00:26:17 three days
00:26:17 --> 00:26:18 later
00:26:18 --> 00:26:18 he was
00:26:18 --> 00:26:19 alive
00:26:19 --> 00:26:20 what do
00:26:20 --> 00:26:20 we do
00:26:20 --> 00:26:21 with this
00:26:21 --> 00:26:21 how do
00:26:21 --> 00:26:22 we account
00:26:22 --> 00:26:23 for this
00:26:23 --> 00:26:24 if
00:26:24 --> 00:26:25 Jesus
00:26:25 --> 00:26:26 was really
00:26:26 --> 00:26:26 raised from
00:26:26 --> 00:26:27 the dead
00:26:27 --> 00:26:27 then you
00:26:27 --> 00:26:28 have to
00:26:28 --> 00:26:28 accept
00:26:28 --> 00:26:29 what he
00:26:29 --> 00:26:29 said
00:26:29 --> 00:26:30 if he
00:26:30 --> 00:26:31 wasn't
00:26:31 --> 00:26:31 raised from
00:26:31 --> 00:26:32 the dead
00:26:32 --> 00:26:33 then you
00:26:33 --> 00:26:33 can ignore
00:26:33 --> 00:26:33 him
00:26:33 --> 00:26:35 and you
00:26:35 --> 00:26:35 can see
00:26:35 --> 00:26:35 these clues
00:26:35 --> 00:26:36 that there
00:26:36 --> 00:26:36 is a
00:26:36 --> 00:26:36 God
00:26:36 --> 00:26:37 and just
00:26:37 --> 00:26:37 think
00:26:37 --> 00:26:37 oh
00:26:37 --> 00:26:38 that's
00:26:38 --> 00:26:38 interesting
00:26:38 --> 00:26:39 there must
00:26:39 --> 00:26:39 be a
00:26:39 --> 00:26:39 God
00:26:39 --> 00:26:40 but if
00:26:40 --> 00:26:40 Jesus
00:26:40 --> 00:26:40 was
00:26:40 --> 00:26:41 raised
00:26:41 --> 00:26:41 from
00:26:41 --> 00:26:41 the
00:26:41 --> 00:26:42 dead
00:26:42 --> 00:26:42 it
00:26:42 --> 00:26:43 proves
00:26:43 --> 00:26:43 that
00:26:43 --> 00:26:43 he
00:26:43 --> 00:26:43 is
00:26:43 --> 00:26:43 the
00:26:43 --> 00:26:44 revelation
00:26:44 --> 00:26:44 of
00:26:44 --> 00:26:45 God
00:26:45 --> 00:26:45 and
00:26:45 --> 00:26:45 that
00:26:45 --> 00:26:46 God
00:26:46 --> 00:26:46 is
00:26:46 --> 00:26:46 the
00:26:46 --> 00:26:46 one
00:26:46 --> 00:26:46 who
00:26:46 --> 00:26:46 has
00:26:46 --> 00:26:47 made
00:26:47 --> 00:26:47 the
00:26:47 --> 00:26:47 universe
00:26:47 --> 00:26:48 and
00:26:48 --> 00:26:48 made
00:26:48 --> 00:26:49 us
00:26:49 --> 00:26:50 Jesus
00:26:50 --> 00:26:51 was
00:26:51 --> 00:26:51 placed
00:26:51 --> 00:26:51 into
00:26:51 --> 00:26:51 a
00:26:51 --> 00:26:52 tomb
00:26:52 --> 00:26:52 and yet
00:26:52 --> 00:26:52 this
00:26:52 --> 00:26:53 tomb
00:26:53 --> 00:26:53 was
00:26:53 --> 00:26:53 found
00:26:53 --> 00:26:53 empty
00:26:53 --> 00:26:54 and
00:26:54 --> 00:26:54 Jesus
00:26:54 --> 00:26:55 was
00:26:55 --> 00:26:55 seen
00:26:55 --> 00:26:56 by
00:26:56 --> 00:26:56 hundreds
00:26:56 --> 00:26:56 of
00:26:56 --> 00:26:57 people
00:26:57 --> 00:26:57 after
00:26:57 --> 00:26:57 his
00:26:57 --> 00:26:57 death
00:26:57 --> 00:26:59 if
00:26:59 --> 00:26:59 the
00:26:59 --> 00:26:59 resurrection
00:26:59 --> 00:27:00 happened
00:27:00 --> 00:27:00 it
00:27:00 --> 00:27:01 means
00:27:01 --> 00:27:01 there
00:27:01 --> 00:27:01 is
00:27:01 --> 00:27:02 hope
00:27:02 --> 00:27:03 we
00:27:03 --> 00:27:03 are
00:27:03 --> 00:27:03 not
00:27:03 --> 00:27:03 just
00:27:03 --> 00:27:04 accidents
00:27:04 --> 00:27:05 on a
00:27:05 --> 00:27:05 universal
00:27:05 --> 00:27:05 scale
00:27:05 --> 00:27:06 maybe
00:27:06 --> 00:27:06 you
00:27:06 --> 00:27:07 say
00:27:09 --> 00:27:09 just
00:27:09 --> 00:27:10 an
00:27:10 --> 00:27:10 accident
00:27:10 --> 00:27:11 but
00:27:11 --> 00:27:11 you
00:27:11 --> 00:27:11 know
00:27:11 --> 00:27:11 I
00:27:11 --> 00:27:11 still
00:27:11 --> 00:27:12 love
00:27:12 --> 00:27:12 you
00:27:12 --> 00:27:13 we
00:27:13 --> 00:27:13 are
00:27:13 --> 00:27:14 not
00:27:14 --> 00:27:14 accidents
00:27:14 --> 00:27:15 if
00:27:15 --> 00:27:15 the
00:27:15 --> 00:27:15 resurrection
00:27:15 --> 00:27:16 happened
00:27:16 --> 00:27:17 we
00:27:17 --> 00:27:17 are
00:27:17 --> 00:27:18 not
00:27:18 --> 00:27:18 just
00:27:18 --> 00:27:18 ants
00:27:18 --> 00:27:19 lucky
00:27:19 --> 00:27:19 to
00:27:19 --> 00:27:19 be
00:27:19 --> 00:27:19 living
00:27:19 --> 00:27:20 on
00:27:20 --> 00:27:20 the
00:27:20 --> 00:27:20 only
00:27:20 --> 00:27:21 rock
00:27:21 --> 00:27:21 in
00:27:21 --> 00:27:21 the
00:27:21 --> 00:27:21 universe
00:27:21 --> 00:27:21 that
00:27:21 --> 00:27:22 could
00:27:22 --> 00:27:22 hold
00:27:22 --> 00:27:22 us
00:27:22 --> 00:27:24 if
00:27:24 --> 00:27:24 Jesus
00:27:24 --> 00:27:24 was
00:27:24 --> 00:27:25 raised
00:27:25 --> 00:27:25 from
00:27:25 --> 00:27:25 the
00:27:25 --> 00:27:25 dead
00:27:25 --> 00:27:26 then
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 it
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 means
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 that
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 there
00:27:26 --> 00:27:27 is
00:27:27 --> 00:27:27 a
00:27:27 --> 00:27:27 God
00:27:27 --> 00:27:27 who
00:27:27 --> 00:27:28 designed
00:27:28 --> 00:27:29 this
00:27:29 --> 00:27:29 whole
00:27:29 --> 00:27:30 universe
00:27:30 --> 00:27:30 to
00:27:30 --> 00:27:30 contain
00:27:30 --> 00:27:31 life
00:27:31 --> 00:27:32 that
00:27:32 --> 00:27:32 even
00:27:32 --> 00:27:32 though
00:27:32 --> 00:27:32 this
00:27:32 --> 00:27:33 life
00:27:33 --> 00:27:34 us
00:27:34 --> 00:27:34 humans
00:27:34 --> 00:27:34 would
00:27:34 --> 00:27:35 try
00:27:35 --> 00:27:35 and live
00:27:35 --> 00:27:36 without
00:27:36 --> 00:27:36 our
00:27:36 --> 00:27:36 creator
00:27:36 --> 00:27:37 he
00:27:37 --> 00:27:38 would
00:27:38 --> 00:27:38 enter
00:27:38 --> 00:27:38 into
00:27:38 --> 00:27:39 it
00:27:39 --> 00:27:39 himself
00:27:39 --> 00:27:40 taking
00:27:40 --> 00:27:41 on
00:27:41 --> 00:27:41 human
00:27:41 --> 00:27:41 forms
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 suffering
00:27:42 --> 00:27:43 humility
00:27:43 --> 00:27:44 weakness
00:27:44 --> 00:27:45 and death
00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 so he
00:27:46 --> 00:27:46 could
00:27:46 --> 00:27:46 redeem
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 his
00:27:47 --> 00:27:47 people
00:27:47 --> 00:27:48 if
00:27:48 --> 00:27:49 Jesus
00:27:49 --> 00:27:49 was
00:27:49 --> 00:27:50 raised
00:27:50 --> 00:27:50 from
00:27:50 --> 00:27:51 the
00:27:51 --> 00:27:51 dead
00:27:51 --> 00:27:52 then
00:27:52 --> 00:27:52 it
00:27:52 --> 00:27:52 means
00:27:52 --> 00:27:52 that
00:27:52 --> 00:27:53 God
00:27:53 --> 00:27:53 has
00:27:53 --> 00:27:53 made
00:27:53 --> 00:27:54 us
00:27:54 --> 00:27:54 like
00:27:54 --> 00:27:54 him
00:27:54 --> 00:27:55 one
00:27:55 --> 00:27:55 that
00:27:55 --> 00:27:56 delights
00:27:56 --> 00:27:56 in
00:27:56 --> 00:27:57 beauty
00:27:57 --> 00:27:58 a
00:27:58 --> 00:27:58 people
00:27:58 --> 00:27:58 made
00:27:58 --> 00:27:59 to
00:27:59 --> 00:27:59 love
00:27:59 --> 00:27:59 like
00:27:59 --> 00:27:59 their
00:27:59 --> 00:28:00 creator
00:28:00 --> 00:28:01 and
00:28:01 --> 00:28:01 if
00:28:01 --> 00:28:02 Jesus
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 was
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 raised
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 from
00:28:02 --> 00:28:03 the
00:28:03 --> 00:28:03 dead
00:28:03 --> 00:28:03 it
00:28:03 --> 00:28:04 means
00:28:04 --> 00:28:04 that
00:28:04 --> 00:28:04 God
00:28:04 --> 00:28:05 values
00:28:05 --> 00:28:05 us
00:28:05 --> 00:28:06 he
00:28:06 --> 00:28:06 has
00:28:06 --> 00:28:07 made
00:28:07 --> 00:28:07 us
00:28:07 --> 00:28:07 have
00:28:07 --> 00:28:08 higher
00:28:08 --> 00:28:08 dignity
00:28:08 --> 00:28:09 than
00:28:09 --> 00:28:09 animals
00:28:09 --> 00:28:10 that
00:28:10 --> 00:28:10 humans
00:28:10 --> 00:28:11 should
00:28:11 --> 00:28:11 be
00:28:11 --> 00:28:11 protected
00:28:11 --> 00:28:12 and
00:28:12 --> 00:28:12 preserved
00:28:12 --> 00:28:13 because
00:28:13 --> 00:28:13 we
00:28:13 --> 00:28:13 have
00:28:13 --> 00:28:13 a
00:28:13 --> 00:28:14 God
00:28:14 --> 00:28:14 who
00:28:14 --> 00:28:14 loves
00:28:14 --> 00:28:15 us
00:28:15 --> 00:28:16 believing
00:28:16 --> 00:28:16 that
00:28:16 --> 00:28:17 there
00:28:17 --> 00:28:17 is
00:28:17 --> 00:28:17 a
00:28:17 --> 00:28:17 God
00:28:17 --> 00:28:18 is
00:28:18 --> 00:28:18 the
00:28:18 --> 00:28:18 best
00:28:18 --> 00:28:19 way
00:28:19 --> 00:28:20 to
00:28:20 --> 00:28:21 understand
00:28:21 --> 00:28:21 this
00:28:21 --> 00:28:22 universe
00:28:22 --> 00:28:22 around
00:28:22 --> 00:28:23 us
00:28:23 --> 00:28:24 and
00:28:24 --> 00:28:24 believing
00:28:24 --> 00:28:24 that
00:28:24 --> 00:28:25 the
00:28:25 --> 00:28:25 Christian
00:28:25 --> 00:28:25 God
00:28:25 --> 00:28:27 also
00:28:27 --> 00:28:27 makes
00:28:27 --> 00:28:27 the
00:28:27 --> 00:28:28 most
00:28:28 --> 00:28:28 sense
00:28:28 --> 00:28:28 of
00:28:28 --> 00:28:29 who
00:28:29 --> 00:28:29 Jesus
00:28:29 --> 00:28:29 is
00:28:29 --> 00:28:31 he
00:28:31 --> 00:28:31 is
00:28:31 --> 00:28:31 God's
00:28:31 --> 00:28:32 word
00:28:32 --> 00:28:32 come
00:28:32 --> 00:28:32 to
00:28:32 --> 00:28:33 reveal
00:28:33 --> 00:28:33 God
00:28:33 --> 00:28:33 so
00:28:33 --> 00:28:34 that
00:28:34 --> 00:28:34 we
00:28:34 --> 00:28:34 could
00:28:34 --> 00:28:34 know

00:28:42 --> 00:28:42 to
00:28:42 --> 00:28:42 us
00:28:42 --> 00:28:43 that
00:28:43 --> 00:28:43 even

00:29:08 --> 00:29:08 do
00:29:08 --> 00:29:09 you
00:29:09 --> 00:29:09 believe
00:29:09 --> 00:29:09 in

00:29:16 --> 00:29:17 we may
00:29:17 --> 00:29:17 continue
00:29:17 --> 00:29:18 to have
00:29:18 --> 00:29:18 doubts
00:29:18 --> 00:29:19 but we
00:29:19 --> 00:29:19 thank you
00:29:19 --> 00:29:20 that there
