00:00:00 --> 00:00:07 Well, good morning, friends. It's 2026. The first month of 2026 is gone already. We're into
00:00:07 --> 00:00:16 ! Month two, how fast it goes. And this year marks 125 years since this church here, St. Paul's
00:00:16 --> 00:00:24 ! Chastwood was started. And so this term, as Nick has said, we are launching our vision for the next
00:00:24 --> 00:00:31 five to 10 years of what our life and ministry will be together in this place. And as we get into
00:00:31 --> 00:00:40 those details of those plans and what we're hoping to do under God, it's crucial that we understand
00:00:40 --> 00:00:51 that it is built on a foundation of who we are. Who is the church? It's not often the way that we
00:00:51 --> 00:00:58 think about church, though, is it? Who is the church? We normally think of it in terms of an
00:00:58 --> 00:01:04 institution or things like a denomination or a building. The church is a building.
00:01:06 --> 00:01:11 Or people say it's a lovely church, which they're referring to the building. Or it's the place,
00:01:11 --> 00:01:19 it's a destination. I'm going to church this morning. When we think of the church, we think
00:01:19 --> 00:01:24 of plans, we think of methodologies, we think of vision, we think of structures, we think of programs,
00:01:24 --> 00:01:32 we think of budgets, we think of all those things. And they all have a place. But first and foremost,
00:01:33 --> 00:01:39 we must understand who the church is. Not what the church is, but who the church is.
00:01:39 --> 00:01:50 You see, the Bible overflows with powerful imagery of God's affection and his love for his church.
00:01:54 --> 00:02:06 Imagery of the family, the body of Christ. And the one that we often maybe don't talk about
00:02:06 --> 00:02:17 is the church being the bride of Christ. That is, the church reflects God's eternal beauty and glory.
00:02:18 --> 00:02:25 And I wish I could unpack this one in just a sermon by itself. But the great English preacher,
00:02:25 --> 00:02:30 Charles Spurgeon, called the church the dearest place on earth.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:40 Not often the way we think of the church, the dearest place on earth. And so what we have in the
00:02:40 --> 00:02:46 Apostle Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus, the Ephesians here, which is what we're going to be
00:02:46 --> 00:02:59 working through this term, is the grand vision of the church's cosmic role as the body of Christ,
00:02:59 --> 00:03:05 Christ as the bride of Christ in God's eternal plans. That's what we have in the book Ephesians. You
00:03:05 --> 00:03:12 won't find anywhere else in the Bible so clear about the vision that God has for his church,
00:03:12 --> 00:03:20 the bride of his son, Jesus. The Ephesians reveals the position and the job description of the church
00:03:20 --> 00:03:32 in effecting God's grand plan for all time and eternity. In fact, the church is central to God's plans.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:43 The 18th century American pastor and theologian, Jonathan Edwards, emphasized this point in a sermon
00:03:43 --> 00:03:58 where he said that so centralism. He said, God created the entire universe for one main end.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:08 And that end was to obtain a spouse for his beloved son.
00:04:08 --> 00:04:21 And so as you read through the Bible, what you see reflected again and again is the language of God's
00:04:21 --> 00:04:25 love and affection for his church.
00:04:29 --> 00:04:35 When he looks at his church, he doesn't look at the things that we look for,
00:04:35 --> 00:04:44 the programs, the timing, the people, the buildings, the air conditioners, whether they're working or not,
00:04:44 --> 00:04:49 which one of them isn't working this morning. He doesn't look at that.
00:04:52 --> 00:05:03 He sees the beauty of his bride for his son, beautified by the blood of his son.
00:05:05 --> 00:05:15 And he longs for the day, as Revelation tells us, where the buyer is beautifully prepared
00:05:15 --> 00:05:19 and ready for the marriage feast.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:22 That's his church.
00:05:22 --> 00:05:29 And so as we look ahead for our plans for our next phase of life and ministry together,
00:05:29 --> 00:05:41 my prayer is that our affections would be awakened for his church
00:05:41 --> 00:05:46 and why we exist.
00:05:46 --> 00:05:50 And that that would transform our lives.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:56 To quote Spurgeon again, nothing in the world is dearer to God's heart than his church.
00:05:57 --> 00:06:07 Therefore, being his, let us belong to it, that by our prayers, our gifts, and our labours,
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 we may support and strengthen it.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:11 May that be the outcome.
00:06:11 --> 00:06:19 So the first thing I want us to see this morning is that who we are, we are blessed.
00:06:19 --> 00:06:24 And I've got three points, which you can get on the St. Paul's app as we go through.
00:06:24 --> 00:06:27 So first of all, God has a plan.
00:06:28 --> 00:06:38 Now, no English translation of the New Testament is able to capture fully Ephesians 3 to 14.
00:06:38 --> 00:06:45 Because in the original language, the Greek language, that is one sentence.
00:06:46 --> 00:06:48 Verses 3 to 14 is one sentence.
00:06:50 --> 00:06:53 202 words in one sentence.
00:06:54 --> 00:06:57 And to get to the meaning of a sentence, as you would know,
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 I had to Google this, but you probably don't need to Google this.
00:07:01 --> 00:07:06 But to get to the meaning of a sentence, you need really to find two things.
00:07:07 --> 00:07:12 You need to find the subject of a sentence, and you need to find the predicate of a sentence.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:15 And then you capture the what is the sentence about.
00:07:16 --> 00:07:18 The subject and the predicate.
00:07:18 --> 00:07:24 So for those of you in basic English, you might want to write that bit down.
00:07:24 --> 00:07:32 So the subject tells us who or the what the sentence is about.
00:07:33 --> 00:07:37 And the predicate tells us what the subject does.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:44 And in this very long sentence, it's very clear the subject is God.
00:07:44 --> 00:07:50 And the predicate in the English language is a little bit harder to spot.
00:07:51 --> 00:07:57 Because there's a number of little, you know, predicates in this sentence, in the English language.
00:07:57 --> 00:07:59 God is doing many things in this.
00:08:00 --> 00:08:05 But in the original language, in the Greek, the predicate is very clear.
00:08:05 --> 00:08:08 And it's in verses 9 to 11.
00:08:09 --> 00:08:13 And it is very simply, particularly verses 8 and 9.
00:08:14 --> 00:08:19 With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will,
00:08:19 --> 00:08:23 according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ.
00:08:24 --> 00:08:25 And verse 10.
00:08:25 --> 00:08:28 Everything in history is in his plan.
00:08:29 --> 00:08:32 To be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment.
00:08:32 --> 00:08:38 And Jesus is the point of the plan.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:40 The second half of verse 10.
00:08:40 --> 00:08:47 To bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
00:08:48 --> 00:08:49 Subject is God.
00:08:50 --> 00:08:59 And the predicate is what God is doing through all of history is to bring everything unified under Christ.
00:08:59 --> 00:09:02 That is what God is doing through all of history.
00:09:03 --> 00:09:07 And his church is central to that plan.
00:09:08 --> 00:09:13 Which means, having read that from Ephesians, Bertrand Russell was wrong.
00:09:16 --> 00:09:20 Bertrand Russell's view, which is basically the secular view of our time,
00:09:20 --> 00:09:25 is that there is no plan for time and space.
00:09:26 --> 00:09:30 In his book, The Free Man's Worship, he wrote,
00:09:30 --> 00:09:38 Man, humanity, is the product of causes which have no prevision of the end that they were achieving.
00:09:38 --> 00:09:44 That is, that his origin, his growth, his hopes and fears, his loves and his beliefs,
00:09:45 --> 00:09:50 are but the outcome of accidental collocation of atoms.
00:09:50 --> 00:09:55 That no fire, no heroism, no intensity of thought and feeling,
00:09:56 --> 00:09:59 can preserve an individual life beyond the grave.
00:09:59 --> 00:10:05 In other words, Russell was absolutely convinced, as our secular age is,
00:10:05 --> 00:10:07 that everything is an accident.
00:10:11 --> 00:10:16 There's no plan, there's no creator, there's no purpose, there's no meaning.
00:10:17 --> 00:10:19 And he goes on to say,
00:10:19 --> 00:10:25 Therefore, there's no heroism, no sacrifice, no human achievement,
00:10:25 --> 00:10:30 no human advancement at all, will ultimately make any difference in the long run.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:33 It might in the short term, but in the long run,
00:10:34 --> 00:10:37 it'll make absolutely no difference whatsoever.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:43 And so Russell concluded that the best way to live life,
00:10:43 --> 00:10:46 to embrace life, the only safe way to live life,
00:10:46 --> 00:10:48 is to embrace despair.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:59 Now, to be honest with you,
00:10:59 --> 00:11:02 Bertrand Russell was more courageous than the average secular person.
00:11:08 --> 00:11:09 Ephesians here says,
00:11:09 --> 00:11:11 There is a plan.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:13 Verse 11,
00:11:13 --> 00:11:25 And absolutely everything in history is in that plan.
00:11:26 --> 00:11:28 Everything is in that plan.
00:11:28 --> 00:11:31 And because that raised a big question for us.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:39 Is everything therefore determined or do humans have free will?
00:11:41 --> 00:11:46 You know, that's a question that's been in history since,
00:11:47 --> 00:11:50 well, as far back as you can record in history.
00:11:51 --> 00:11:57 Are we free or is there a plan that we can't escape in any kind of way?
00:11:57 --> 00:12:01 And the Bible's answer to that question is very simple.
00:12:02 --> 00:12:02 Yes.
00:12:04 --> 00:12:05 Yes.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:13 That's because the Bible is way more nuanced than any philosophy in life.
00:12:15 --> 00:12:18 You see, one view says that everything is absolutely fixed,
00:12:18 --> 00:12:20 our choices don't matter,
00:12:20 --> 00:12:25 and whatever you choose in life is ultimately going to be overridden by the fixed plan.
00:12:25 --> 00:12:27 And what that does,
00:12:28 --> 00:12:29 if it's just that,
00:12:29 --> 00:12:34 what that does is it entirely saps a person of any hope at all.
00:12:35 --> 00:12:39 The other view says that your future,
00:12:39 --> 00:12:41 which is more common nowadays,
00:12:41 --> 00:12:45 that your future is whatever you make it.
00:12:45 --> 00:12:48 All of your choices determine your destiny,
00:12:48 --> 00:12:52 so make sure that you make the right choices in life.
00:12:52 --> 00:12:55 And if that's the case,
00:12:56 --> 00:13:02 if absolutely everything in your life is determined by the choices you make,
00:13:02 --> 00:13:05 the best choice you can make is don't get out of bed in the morning.
00:13:07 --> 00:13:08 Much safer.
00:13:08 --> 00:13:16 You can see because that view of history just loads people up with fear.
00:13:18 --> 00:13:22 And you can see it worked out in the younger generation nowadays,
00:13:23 --> 00:13:25 sucked into a culture of expressive individualism,
00:13:26 --> 00:13:28 and you make all the right choices,
00:13:29 --> 00:13:30 you be who you are.
00:13:30 --> 00:13:41 The Bible says that both of those views are wrong and right.
00:13:43 --> 00:13:46 The Bible says our choices matter,
00:13:46 --> 00:13:48 and God will hold us accountable to them.
00:13:49 --> 00:13:49 But ultimately,
00:13:50 --> 00:13:51 God is in charge,
00:13:51 --> 00:13:53 and his plan will advance,
00:13:53 --> 00:13:54 and his plan is to bless.
00:13:54 --> 00:14:02 It means that we can be absolutely alert,
00:14:03 --> 00:14:05 and at peace at the same time.
00:14:09 --> 00:14:10 It means that.
00:14:11 --> 00:14:12 God is sovereign,
00:14:13 --> 00:14:15 and we get to choose.
00:14:21 --> 00:14:22 Think about this.
00:14:22 --> 00:14:23 How many of your decisions,
00:14:23 --> 00:14:24 for you older people,
00:14:24 --> 00:14:27 how many of your decisions in your 20s
00:14:27 --> 00:14:30 that you desperately felt you needed in order to live life,
00:14:30 --> 00:14:31 that never came to fruition,
00:14:32 --> 00:14:33 that you look back now and go,
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 geez, I'm glad that never happened?
00:14:38 --> 00:14:40 When I was in my mid-20s,
00:14:40 --> 00:14:45 I was desperately trying to get a young lady to marry me,
00:14:46 --> 00:14:49 praying God would sovereignly overrule,
00:14:49 --> 00:14:49 blah, blah, blah.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:54 And it never happened.
00:14:56 --> 00:14:56 And instead,
00:14:57 --> 00:14:57 this week,
00:14:58 --> 00:15:01 Nat and I celebrate 27 years of marriage.
00:15:03 --> 00:15:03 Yeah,
00:15:04 --> 00:15:04 I mean,
00:15:04 --> 00:15:07 that's goodwill there.
00:15:09 --> 00:15:09 So,
00:15:09 --> 00:15:09 you know,
00:15:09 --> 00:15:10 like,
00:15:10 --> 00:15:11 after 27 years,
00:15:11 --> 00:15:15 I'm glad that my plans never came to fruition.
00:15:15 --> 00:15:18 Back in those days.
00:15:22 --> 00:15:25 Ephesians 1 tells us that God has a plan for all things.
00:15:26 --> 00:15:28 Jesus is the center of God's plan,
00:15:28 --> 00:15:29 and it's a plan to bless.
00:15:30 --> 00:15:34 Verses 1 to 3 is the summary verse of this chapter,
00:15:34 --> 00:15:36 and it's an astonishing claim.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:40 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
00:15:40 --> 00:15:44 who has blessed us in the heavenly realms
00:15:44 --> 00:15:47 with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
00:15:49 --> 00:15:52 Has blessed us.
00:15:53 --> 00:15:54 It's already happened.
00:15:56 --> 00:16:00 With every spiritual blessing,
00:16:01 --> 00:16:03 which is absolute language.
00:16:03 --> 00:16:04 Nothing is lacking here.
00:16:04 --> 00:16:05 Nothing is overlooked.
00:16:05 --> 00:16:07 Nothing is held back from God.
00:16:08 --> 00:16:11 I sign off my emails on most cases
00:16:11 --> 00:16:12 with,
00:16:12 --> 00:16:13 you know,
00:16:14 --> 00:16:15 with things like,
00:16:15 --> 00:16:15 you know,
00:16:15 --> 00:16:15 regards,
00:16:16 --> 00:16:16 kind regards.
00:16:17 --> 00:16:18 But most often,
00:16:18 --> 00:16:19 I think,
00:16:19 --> 00:16:21 particularly when I'm
00:16:21 --> 00:16:22 communicating
00:16:22 --> 00:16:24 to Christians,
00:16:24 --> 00:16:25 excuse me,
00:16:25 --> 00:16:25 with Christians,
00:16:26 --> 00:16:27 I often use
00:16:27 --> 00:16:28 blessings,
00:16:28 --> 00:16:30 or many blessings from Steve.
00:16:31 --> 00:16:31 You know,
00:16:31 --> 00:16:32 it means,
00:16:32 --> 00:16:33 in our culture,
00:16:33 --> 00:16:35 to wish someone well.
00:16:36 --> 00:16:38 But that's not what it means here.
00:16:41 --> 00:16:43 God's not wishing us well.
00:16:44 --> 00:16:45 In the New Testament,
00:16:45 --> 00:16:46 the word blessed
00:16:46 --> 00:16:50 is closer to the Hebrew word shalom.
00:16:50 --> 00:16:56 It means to have every joy
00:16:56 --> 00:16:59 and benefit of your heart
00:16:59 --> 00:17:00 and soul
00:17:00 --> 00:17:03 and every longing
00:17:03 --> 00:17:04 for your being fulfilled.
00:17:05 --> 00:17:08 That's what the word blessed means here.
00:17:08 --> 00:17:13 A Christian is someone
00:17:13 --> 00:17:16 who has already
00:17:16 --> 00:17:18 been blessed.
00:17:18 --> 00:17:19 How's that possible?
00:17:20 --> 00:17:20 Well,
00:17:20 --> 00:17:21 the key to it
00:17:21 --> 00:17:23 is right at the end of verse 3,
00:17:23 --> 00:17:25 in Christ.
00:17:25 --> 00:17:25 Verse 4,
00:17:26 --> 00:17:27 God chose us in him.
00:17:27 --> 00:17:28 Verse 5,
00:17:29 --> 00:17:30 we are adopted
00:17:30 --> 00:17:32 through Christ Jesus.
00:17:32 --> 00:17:32 Verse 6,
00:17:33 --> 00:17:34 in the one he loves.
00:17:34 --> 00:17:35 Verse 7,
00:17:35 --> 00:17:36 in him we have redemption.
00:17:36 --> 00:17:37 Verse 9,
00:17:37 --> 00:17:39 God purposed those things
00:17:39 --> 00:17:40 in Christ.
00:17:40 --> 00:17:40 Verse 11,
00:17:41 --> 00:17:41 in him
00:17:41 --> 00:17:43 we were chosen.
00:17:43 --> 00:17:44 You see,
00:17:44 --> 00:17:45 to become a Christian
00:17:45 --> 00:17:47 is not simply
00:17:47 --> 00:17:48 to get Jesus
00:17:48 --> 00:17:50 as your Lord
00:17:50 --> 00:17:50 to obey,
00:17:51 --> 00:17:52 although he is that,
00:17:53 --> 00:17:53 or
00:17:53 --> 00:17:55 a model
00:17:55 --> 00:17:56 to follow in life,
00:17:57 --> 00:17:57 although he is that,
00:17:58 --> 00:17:59 or as a saviour
00:17:59 --> 00:18:01 to be grateful for,
00:18:02 --> 00:18:02 although
00:18:02 --> 00:18:03 you should do that.
00:18:05 --> 00:18:06 A Christian
00:18:06 --> 00:18:07 is someone
00:18:07 --> 00:18:08 who has been put
00:18:08 --> 00:18:10 in Christ,
00:18:12 --> 00:18:14 the theological language of it,
00:18:14 --> 00:18:15 you have union
00:18:15 --> 00:18:17 with Christ.
00:18:17 --> 00:18:20 It's a marriage union.
00:18:22 --> 00:18:23 In such a way
00:18:23 --> 00:18:25 that everything
00:18:25 --> 00:18:26 that belongs to Christ
00:18:26 --> 00:18:28 is now yours.
00:18:29 --> 00:18:31 You are united
00:18:31 --> 00:18:32 to Jesus Christ,
00:18:32 --> 00:18:33 and we are united
00:18:33 --> 00:18:35 to Jesus legally.
00:18:36 --> 00:18:37 Imagine the scenario
00:18:37 --> 00:18:40 of a very poor person
00:18:40 --> 00:18:42 marrying
00:18:42 --> 00:18:43 an extremely
00:18:43 --> 00:18:45 wealthy person
00:18:45 --> 00:18:46 without any
00:18:46 --> 00:18:48 prenuptial agreements.
00:18:50 --> 00:18:52 In that moment,
00:18:53 --> 00:18:54 when you are legally married,
00:18:55 --> 00:18:56 everything
00:18:56 --> 00:18:58 that is owned
00:18:58 --> 00:19:00 by the wealthy person
00:19:00 --> 00:19:01 is shared
00:19:01 --> 00:19:02 with you legally.
00:19:04 --> 00:19:05 You share it
00:19:05 --> 00:19:05 legally.
00:19:06 --> 00:19:07 You have a right
00:19:07 --> 00:19:08 to it
00:19:08 --> 00:19:09 through
00:19:09 --> 00:19:10 legal union.
00:19:13 --> 00:19:13 And so
00:19:13 --> 00:19:14 what it says here,
00:19:15 --> 00:19:15 everything
00:19:15 --> 00:19:16 that belongs
00:19:16 --> 00:19:17 to Jesus,
00:19:18 --> 00:19:19 every single thing
00:19:19 --> 00:19:20 that he has accomplished
00:19:20 --> 00:19:21 belongs
00:19:21 --> 00:19:23 to the Christian.
00:19:23 --> 00:19:26 but we're also
00:19:26 --> 00:19:26 united to him
00:19:26 --> 00:19:27 vitally.
00:19:27 --> 00:19:28 The Holy Spirit
00:19:28 --> 00:19:29 comes into the life
00:19:29 --> 00:19:30 of the Christian
00:19:30 --> 00:19:31 and the life
00:19:31 --> 00:19:32 of the church,
00:19:32 --> 00:19:33 and it brings
00:19:33 --> 00:19:34 character change.
00:19:34 --> 00:19:35 The Spirit brings
00:19:35 --> 00:19:36 character change
00:19:36 --> 00:19:38 into the likeness
00:19:38 --> 00:19:38 !
00:19:38 --> 00:19:40 of the bridegroom.
00:19:41 --> 00:19:42 So the bride
00:19:42 --> 00:19:44 reflects the bridegroom
00:19:44 --> 00:19:47 until eventually
00:19:47 --> 00:19:48 on the final day
00:19:48 --> 00:19:50 at the wedding feast,
00:19:50 --> 00:19:51 we are glorified.
00:19:51 --> 00:19:54 we will be
00:19:54 --> 00:19:57 who we are now
00:19:57 --> 00:19:58 in every sense,
00:19:59 --> 00:20:00 perfected,
00:20:00 --> 00:20:01 flawless,
00:20:02 --> 00:20:03 sin-free,
00:20:04 --> 00:20:05 suffering-free,
00:20:05 --> 00:20:06 existence forever
00:20:06 --> 00:20:07 on that final day.
00:20:08 --> 00:20:09 A Christian
00:20:09 --> 00:20:10 is in Christ
00:20:10 --> 00:20:11 with all
00:20:11 --> 00:20:12 his benefits,
00:20:13 --> 00:20:14 even though
00:20:14 --> 00:20:15 it may take
00:20:15 --> 00:20:15 a lifetime
00:20:15 --> 00:20:17 to work those benefits
00:20:17 --> 00:20:18 out into our lives
00:20:18 --> 00:20:19 until we are
00:20:19 --> 00:20:20 finally glorified.
00:20:21 --> 00:20:23 All Christians,
00:20:24 --> 00:20:25 all Christians
00:20:25 --> 00:20:27 have every
00:20:27 --> 00:20:29 spiritual blessing
00:20:29 --> 00:20:31 in Christ.
00:20:31 --> 00:20:32 They're not two
00:20:32 --> 00:20:33 categories of Christian,
00:20:34 --> 00:20:35 the more spiritual
00:20:35 --> 00:20:36 and the less spiritual.
00:20:37 --> 00:20:38 Either you are a Christian
00:20:38 --> 00:20:40 or you're not a Christian.
00:20:40 --> 00:20:45 and every Christian
00:20:45 --> 00:20:45 has every
00:20:45 --> 00:20:46 spiritual blessing.
00:20:48 --> 00:20:49 If you're not a Christian,
00:20:50 --> 00:20:51 you have
00:20:51 --> 00:20:51 no
00:20:51 --> 00:20:52 spiritual
00:20:52 --> 00:20:53 blessings
00:20:53 --> 00:20:56 and all
00:20:56 --> 00:20:56 those blessings
00:20:56 --> 00:20:57 come from
00:20:57 --> 00:20:59 union with Christ,
00:20:59 --> 00:21:00 connected to Christ.
00:21:01 --> 00:21:01 Now,
00:21:01 --> 00:21:02 there's an interesting
00:21:02 --> 00:21:03 incident
00:21:03 --> 00:21:04 that happened
00:21:04 --> 00:21:06 during the
00:21:06 --> 00:21:06 Paris
00:21:06 --> 00:21:08 Peace Conference
00:21:08 --> 00:21:09 at the end
00:21:09 --> 00:21:10 of World War I.
00:21:10 --> 00:21:11 It went from
00:21:11 --> 00:21:12 1919
00:21:12 --> 00:21:13 to 1920
00:21:13 --> 00:21:15 as they divided
00:21:15 --> 00:21:16 up the world,
00:21:16 --> 00:21:16 basically.
00:21:17 --> 00:21:18 The delegates
00:21:18 --> 00:21:19 which came

00:40:32 --> 00:40:33 flesh and
00:40:33 --> 00:40:33 his blood.

00:40:35 --> 00:40:36 does is it
00:40:36 --> 00:40:37 causes us,

00:40:40 --> 00:40:42 to reflect

00:41:15 --> 00:41:16 participate in
00:41:16 --> 00:41:16 this and
00:41:16 --> 00:41:17 as we
00:41:17 --> 00:41:17 remember
00:41:17 --> 00:41:18 Christ,
00:41:18 --> 00:41:20 they become
00:41:20 --> 00:41:21 a beautifying
00:41:21 --> 00:41:23 influence on
00:41:23 --> 00:41:26 us as it
00:41:26 --> 00:41:27 demonstrates the
00:41:27 --> 00:41:28 importance of
00:41:28 --> 00:41:29 our remembering,
00:41:31 --> 00:41:33 the importance
00:41:33 --> 00:41:33 of our loving,
00:41:34 --> 00:41:35 and the
00:41:35 --> 00:41:36 importance of
00:41:36 --> 00:41:36 our examining.

00:42:06 --> 00:42:06 Corinthians

00:42:22 --> 00:42:23 one loaf of
00:42:23 --> 00:42:24 bread amongst
00:42:24 --> 00:42:25 the church,
00:42:25 --> 00:42:25 and each
00:42:25 --> 00:42:26 would pinch
00:42:26 --> 00:42:27 off a small
00:42:27 --> 00:42:28 piece of
00:42:28 --> 00:42:30 bread to
00:42:30 --> 00:42:31 celebrate the
00:42:31 --> 00:42:31 Lord's
00:42:31 --> 00:42:31 supper.
00:42:33 --> 00:42:33 And through
00:42:33 --> 00:42:35 that physical
00:42:35 --> 00:42:36 representation,
00:42:37 --> 00:42:38 the Apostle
00:42:38 --> 00:42:38 Paul was
00:42:38 --> 00:42:39 reminding you,
00:42:39 --> 00:42:39 you are one
00:42:39 --> 00:42:40 body, and
00:42:40 --> 00:42:41 your body is
00:42:41 --> 00:42:42 connected to
00:42:42 --> 00:42:43 the bread of
00:42:43 --> 00:42:44 life, Jesus,
00:42:45 --> 00:42:45 your bridegroom.
00:42:47 --> 00:42:48 And for this
00:42:48 --> 00:42:49 type of mutual
00:42:49 --> 00:42:50 love and
00:42:50 --> 00:42:51 reconciliation to
00:42:51 --> 00:42:52 be present in
00:42:52 --> 00:42:52 the life of
00:42:52 --> 00:42:53 the church,
00:42:53 --> 00:42:54 that's what
00:42:54 --> 00:42:55 we're doing as
00:42:55 --> 00:42:55 we participate
00:42:55 --> 00:42:57 in Christ.
00:43:00 --> 00:43:01 And also,
00:43:01 --> 00:43:03 it's also
00:43:03 --> 00:43:03 calling us to
00:43:03 --> 00:43:04 examine ourselves.
00:43:06 --> 00:43:07 When he said
00:43:07 --> 00:43:07 to the church
00:43:07 --> 00:43:08 of Corinth,

00:43:08 --> 00:43:09 therefore eats
