00:00:08 --> 00:00:12 I talk to couples that are about to get married.
00:00:12 --> 00:00:16 I always try to get them to talk about many things.
00:00:16 --> 00:00:19 You know, have you spoken about how many kids that you want to have?
00:00:20 --> 00:00:22 Whether you're going to have kids at all?
00:00:23 --> 00:00:29 Because if you both have expectations and they're not met, it will breed conflict.
00:00:30 --> 00:00:37 John Piper, in his book, The Roots of Endurance, says that here in the Western civilization,
00:00:37 --> 00:00:42 there is a mindset that we deserve trouble-free, pain-free existence.
00:00:43 --> 00:00:46 So we expect to be able to go to the school that we want to.
00:00:46 --> 00:00:49 We expect to have all the creature comforts of life.
00:00:49 --> 00:00:53 We expect that life will be comfortable.
00:00:54 --> 00:00:58 Maybe if you've moved to Australia, you came here for those reasons.
00:00:58 --> 00:01:05 A better life, a better job, a place to raise your kids, to avoid pain and conflict.
00:01:06 --> 00:01:09 What is the expectation of our lives?
00:01:10 --> 00:01:15 Is it the avoidance of pain and suffering and the pursuit of comfort and pleasures?
00:01:15 --> 00:01:28 Is it possible that we bring in this Western mindset of having a safe, risk-averse, pain-free life into the life of Christianity?
00:01:28 --> 00:01:33 What are the expectations of the Christian life?
00:01:34 --> 00:01:37 If you're a Christian, what are the expectations that you have of Christianity?
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 Is it a settled, comfortable life?
00:01:41 --> 00:01:45 What does it cost to be a Christian?
00:01:46 --> 00:01:53 How much does being a Christian impact your job, where you live, the people that you welcome into your own home?
00:01:55 --> 00:01:59 Does being a committed Christian just look like coming to church on a Sunday?
00:01:59 --> 00:02:08 What is the expectation of how much our entire life will be shaped and impacted by Jesus?
00:02:08 --> 00:02:16 Is Christianity just like supporting a sporting team, where we just have our life and the sporting team sits on top,
00:02:16 --> 00:02:24 and sometimes we're really serious about the sport, and sometimes it's the off-season, and we don't even think about it at all?
00:02:24 --> 00:02:32 Jesus is going to set some clear expectations about what the Christian life looks like.
00:02:33 --> 00:02:41 We're in John chapter 15, and Jesus is just about to die, and to be raised to the throne above all thrones.
00:02:42 --> 00:02:46 Raised in glory, as we see God's kingdom breaking in.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:48 Dead people are raised to life.
00:02:48 --> 00:02:51 The Holy Spirit starts dwelling within people.
00:02:51 --> 00:02:52 It's a new world.
00:02:52 --> 00:03:02 But what is it going to look like for the Christians in this stage between Jesus' death and resurrection, and Jesus' return?
00:03:03 --> 00:03:09 Where Jesus is the King of the cosmos, but the whole world isn't yet following Him.
00:03:11 --> 00:03:15 What's going to happen when there's conflict on the earth between those who follow Jesus and those who don't?
00:03:16 --> 00:03:20 What can we expect this life to look like while we wait?
00:03:20 --> 00:03:23 Let me pray as we jump into chapter 15 and 16.
00:03:24 --> 00:03:25 Heavenly Father, be with us tonight.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:30 Help us to hear what you have to say to us individually,
00:03:31 --> 00:03:35 so that we would depend upon you and to be shaped to be more like your Son.
00:03:35 --> 00:03:35 Amen.
00:03:35 --> 00:03:44 And so Jesus has spent time over the last couple of chapters, the last couple of weeks that we've been looking at this book,
00:03:44 --> 00:03:48 explaining the positives of what it means to be a Christian.
00:03:49 --> 00:03:51 Those who follow Jesus have life.
00:03:52 --> 00:03:54 Jesus is going to prepare a house.
00:03:55 --> 00:03:57 Christians will have the Holy Spirit.
00:03:57 --> 00:04:02 Christians are invited into the awesome love of the Trinity.
00:04:03 --> 00:04:10 He calls on us to abide in His love, shaped by the Father, and to love other people.
00:04:11 --> 00:04:15 And now He has some very sobering words.
00:04:16 --> 00:04:18 Chapter 15, verse 18.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:19 What...
00:04:19 --> 00:04:21 Have a look with me.
00:04:21 --> 00:04:23 Chapter 15, verse 18.
00:04:23 --> 00:04:28 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
00:04:29 --> 00:04:32 If you belong to the world, it would love you as its own.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:39 As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
00:04:40 --> 00:04:42 That is why the world hates you.
00:04:43 --> 00:04:44 Hatred.
00:04:44 --> 00:04:47 It's a pretty sharp turn for Jesus.
00:04:47 --> 00:04:52 If the disciples were hoping that everything was going to be smooth sailing, following Jesus,
00:04:53 --> 00:04:55 Jesus makes their expectations really clear.
00:04:57 --> 00:04:59 Christians have been taken out of the world.
00:04:59 --> 00:05:02 We are owned by Jesus.
00:05:03 --> 00:05:08 And so if Jesus was hated by the world, well, so will those who are owned by Him.
00:05:09 --> 00:05:17 Jesus is saying, don't be surprised if the world's hatred goes from being on me to now being on you.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:19 Jesus had been the focus of the hate.
00:05:19 --> 00:05:22 And now it's going to turn to His followers.
00:05:24 --> 00:05:26 There's going to be conflict between Christians and the world,
00:05:26 --> 00:05:30 because Christians don't belong to the world anymore.
00:05:31 --> 00:05:33 We are taken as His.
00:05:33 --> 00:05:34 We are owned by Him.
00:05:35 --> 00:05:39 And Jesus' followers slowly start to look like Jesus,
00:05:39 --> 00:05:44 in their love and obedience and fruitfulness being connected to the vine.
00:05:44 --> 00:05:46 Jesus stood out.
00:05:47 --> 00:05:49 And people didn't like that.
00:05:50 --> 00:05:53 And Jesus' followers are going to stand out as well.
00:05:54 --> 00:05:57 Increasingly so, in our culture,
00:05:57 --> 00:06:01 those who joyfully follow Jesus and obey Him,
00:06:01 --> 00:06:04 just don't make sense to the rest of the world.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:07 People love to rebel, particularly against God.
00:06:07 --> 00:06:10 And so when Christians joyfully obey God,
00:06:11 --> 00:06:13 at the least people are surprised,
00:06:13 --> 00:06:15 and at the worst, people hate.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:18 I remember many, many years ago,
00:06:18 --> 00:06:20 people saying to me,
00:06:20 --> 00:06:24 what do you mean you've chosen not to have sex before marriage?
00:06:25 --> 00:06:27 How can you be happy in that situation?
00:06:27 --> 00:06:29 You're limiting your rights.
00:06:29 --> 00:06:32 How are you going to know that she's the right person to marry?
00:06:32 --> 00:06:37 It's like when someone changes a team that they support.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:40 Can somebody offer me a team sport?
00:06:42 --> 00:06:42 Curling?
00:06:43 --> 00:06:44 I don't know.
00:06:45 --> 00:06:46 Something far more mainstream than that.
00:06:48 --> 00:06:48 AFL.

00:07:13 --> 00:07:15 Now imagine that, you know, every weekend,
00:07:15 --> 00:07:16 there's Liv and Darcy.
00:07:16 --> 00:07:20 They're out there supporting GWS,
00:07:21 --> 00:07:22 loving it, having a great time.
00:07:23 --> 00:07:25 But then, for some reason,
00:07:26 --> 00:07:27 Darcy changed teams.
00:07:28 --> 00:07:29 He's gone to the Swans.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:32 Can you imagine their relationship?
00:07:32 --> 00:07:33 All of a sudden,
00:07:34 --> 00:07:36 we used to go to this game together,
00:07:37 --> 00:07:39 and now you're on the other side.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:40 You're not only going for another team,
00:07:40 --> 00:07:42 you're going for our arch rival.
00:07:42 --> 00:07:43 You're going for our nemesis.
00:07:45 --> 00:07:46 How are you going to go for them?
00:07:47 --> 00:07:50 Christians are people who have been literally plucked
00:07:50 --> 00:07:52 from being on the wrong team
00:07:52 --> 00:07:54 against God,
00:07:54 --> 00:07:56 and now we are placed on God's team.
00:07:57 --> 00:08:01 Jesus has come as the captain of the new team
00:08:01 --> 00:08:03 and plucked us out.
00:08:04 --> 00:08:07 And so Christians are going to be treated
00:08:07 --> 00:08:10 the same way that Jesus was treated.
00:08:12 --> 00:08:12 I'm trying to click.

00:08:15 --> 00:08:17 And so there's a positive and negative
00:08:17 --> 00:08:19 to the way that Jesus was treated
00:08:19 --> 00:08:20 and the way we're going to be treated too.
00:08:20 --> 00:08:22 Have a look with me at verse 20.
00:08:24 --> 00:08:25 Jesus said,
00:08:26 --> 00:08:27 if they persecute me,
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 and some of them did persecute Jesus,
00:08:31 --> 00:08:33 they will persecute you also.
00:08:34 --> 00:08:36 Some of them certainly did get jealous
00:08:36 --> 00:08:38 and angry and kill Jesus.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:42 So expect the same thing.
00:08:42 --> 00:08:44 But some people didn't.
00:08:44 --> 00:08:46 Some people, like the disciples
00:08:46 --> 00:08:49 and those people that he healed in particular,
00:08:49 --> 00:08:52 some of them didn't persecute Jesus.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:53 Some of them followed him.
00:08:54 --> 00:08:57 And so Jesus was persecuted by some
00:08:57 --> 00:08:58 and others followed.
00:08:59 --> 00:09:01 And so for those who follow Jesus,
00:09:02 --> 00:09:03 the same thing is going to happen.
00:09:03 --> 00:09:04 Some will persecute
00:09:04 --> 00:09:07 and some will not persecute and listen.
00:09:08 --> 00:09:08 Jesus said,
00:09:08 --> 00:09:10 if they obeyed my teaching,
00:09:10 --> 00:09:13 they will obey yours also.
00:09:14 --> 00:09:16 So how is Jesus treated?
00:09:16 --> 00:09:18 Well, some of them obeyed Jesus' teaching,
00:09:18 --> 00:09:19 like the disciples,
00:09:20 --> 00:09:22 Mary, Martha, Lazarus,
00:09:22 --> 00:09:24 again, those who were healed.
00:09:25 --> 00:09:27 Some will obey Jesus,
00:09:28 --> 00:09:29 but not all will listen.
00:09:30 --> 00:09:33 People were divided around Jesus.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:35 Much like the Pharisees,
00:09:35 --> 00:09:37 they seemed to be like a whole group
00:09:37 --> 00:09:38 who didn't like Jesus,
00:09:39 --> 00:09:40 and yet even they are divided.
00:09:40 --> 00:09:42 And you get someone like Nicodemus
00:09:42 --> 00:09:43 who stands out from the crowd.
00:09:43 --> 00:09:46 But Jesus is like a knife
00:09:46 --> 00:09:47 that cuts through a crowd.
00:09:48 --> 00:09:50 Some fall this way,
00:09:50 --> 00:09:51 some fall that way.
00:09:52 --> 00:09:55 People are divided around Jesus,
00:09:55 --> 00:09:56 and it's going to be the same
00:09:56 --> 00:09:57 with the disciples.
00:09:57 --> 00:09:59 We're going to divide people.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:01 So expect some people
00:10:01 --> 00:10:03 to listen to you
00:10:03 --> 00:10:04 when you talk about
00:10:04 --> 00:10:05 what you were doing
00:10:05 --> 00:10:07 on Sunday afternoon at church.
00:10:07 --> 00:10:09 expect some people
00:10:09 --> 00:10:11 to ridicule you
00:10:11 --> 00:10:12 and persecute you
00:10:12 --> 00:10:13 just for coming to church.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:16 It leads to the question,
00:10:17 --> 00:10:18 why all the hate?
00:10:19 --> 00:10:21 Why are people so divided
00:10:21 --> 00:10:22 around Jesus?
00:10:22 --> 00:10:24 Why are people then
00:10:24 --> 00:10:25 and even now
00:10:25 --> 00:10:28 divided around Jesus' followers?
00:10:29 --> 00:10:30 Verse 22,
00:10:30 --> 00:10:33 If I had not come
00:10:33 --> 00:10:34 and spoken to them,
00:10:35 --> 00:10:37 they would not be guilty of sin.
00:10:37 --> 00:10:38 But now,
00:10:38 --> 00:10:40 they have no excuse
00:10:40 --> 00:10:41 for their sin.
00:10:42 --> 00:10:43 By coming,
00:10:43 --> 00:10:44 Jesus has brought
00:10:44 --> 00:10:46 before people's eyes
00:10:46 --> 00:10:47 the most central
00:10:47 --> 00:10:49 and controlling of sins.
00:10:50 --> 00:10:51 The rejection
00:10:51 --> 00:10:52 and rebellion of God.
00:10:53 --> 00:10:54 Jesus has come,
00:10:54 --> 00:10:56 God in the flesh,
00:10:56 --> 00:10:57 and people refuse
00:10:57 --> 00:10:58 to listen to God,
00:10:58 --> 00:10:59 and it's damning.
00:10:59 --> 00:11:00 The Pharisees
00:11:00 --> 00:11:01 didn't like it
00:11:01 --> 00:11:02 when they were told
00:11:02 --> 00:11:03 that they were worshipping God
00:11:03 --> 00:11:05 in the wrong way.
00:11:05 --> 00:11:06 They were offering praise
00:11:06 --> 00:11:06 and service
00:11:06 --> 00:11:07 which was actually
00:11:07 --> 00:11:08 just all about themselves.
00:11:09 --> 00:11:10 And even now,
00:11:11 --> 00:11:12 when we hold out
00:11:12 --> 00:11:13 the good news
00:11:13 --> 00:11:13 about Jesus
00:11:13 --> 00:11:15 being the only way
00:11:15 --> 00:11:15 to God,
00:11:17 --> 00:11:17 it causes
00:11:17 --> 00:11:18 a rejection
00:11:18 --> 00:11:19 of not just us
00:11:19 --> 00:11:20 but a rejection
00:11:20 --> 00:11:21 of Jesus
00:11:21 --> 00:11:23 and a hatred
00:11:23 --> 00:11:24 towards those
00:11:24 --> 00:11:25 who follow him.
00:11:26 --> 00:11:27 Why all the hate?
00:11:27 --> 00:11:30 Because just like Jesus,
00:11:30 --> 00:11:31 Christians are called
00:11:31 --> 00:11:32 to stand up
00:11:32 --> 00:11:34 and reveal sin.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:35 Our lives
00:11:35 --> 00:11:37 will reveal sin
00:11:37 --> 00:11:38 in other people's lives.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:41 This paints
00:11:41 --> 00:11:42 a dark
00:11:42 --> 00:11:43 and difficult picture
00:11:43 --> 00:11:44 of the future
00:11:44 --> 00:11:44 for the disciples.
00:11:45 --> 00:11:46 And anyone else,
00:11:46 --> 00:11:47 including ourselves,
00:11:47 --> 00:11:48 that follows Jesus,
00:11:48 --> 00:11:49 what is the point
00:11:49 --> 00:11:50 of Jesus
00:11:50 --> 00:11:51 telling the disciples
00:11:51 --> 00:11:51 all of this?
00:11:52 --> 00:11:53 Have a look at
00:11:53 --> 00:11:53 verse 1
00:11:53 --> 00:11:54 of chapter 16
00:11:54 --> 00:11:54 with me.
00:11:54 --> 00:11:57 All this
00:11:57 --> 00:11:58 I have told you
00:11:58 --> 00:11:59 so you will
00:11:59 --> 00:12:00 not fall away.
00:12:01 --> 00:12:03 Jesus is telling
00:12:03 --> 00:12:04 the disciples this
00:12:04 --> 00:12:05 so that they have
00:12:05 --> 00:12:07 clear expectations.
00:12:07 --> 00:12:08 They know what to expect.
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 It's a big purpose
00:12:10 --> 00:12:10 statement
00:12:10 --> 00:12:11 for this segment.
00:12:12 --> 00:12:13 Jesus has so much
00:12:13 --> 00:12:13 concern
00:12:13 --> 00:12:15 for this little flock.
00:12:16 --> 00:12:17 He has so much
00:12:17 --> 00:12:19 love for them.
00:12:19 --> 00:12:20 He doesn't want
00:12:20 --> 00:12:21 them to fall away.
00:12:22 --> 00:12:22 He's already
00:12:22 --> 00:12:23 lost Judas
00:12:23 --> 00:12:24 who he sent
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 out
00:12:25 --> 00:12:26 to go and
00:12:26 --> 00:12:27 betray him.
00:12:28 --> 00:12:29 He is preparing
00:12:29 --> 00:12:29 them
00:12:29 --> 00:12:30 so that they
00:12:30 --> 00:12:31 won't fall away.
00:12:31 --> 00:12:31 So they're not
00:12:31 --> 00:12:32 surprised
00:12:32 --> 00:12:34 and they won't
00:12:34 --> 00:12:34 stumble.
00:12:35 --> 00:12:36 The Greek word
00:12:36 --> 00:12:37 for fall away
00:12:37 --> 00:12:37 is
00:12:37 --> 00:12:39 skandalizo.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:39 It's one of my
00:12:39 --> 00:12:40 favorite Greek words.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:41 That's why I still
00:12:41 --> 00:12:41 remember it.
00:12:42 --> 00:12:43 And it's the word
00:12:43 --> 00:12:44 that we get
00:12:44 --> 00:12:45 scandalized from.
00:12:46 --> 00:12:47 Jesus doesn't
00:12:47 --> 00:12:48 want these disciples
00:12:48 --> 00:12:50 to be scandalized
00:12:50 --> 00:12:51 by falling away
00:12:51 --> 00:12:52 and ruining
00:12:52 --> 00:12:53 their lives.
00:12:53 --> 00:12:54 And so Jesus
00:12:54 --> 00:12:55 gets them ready
00:12:55 --> 00:12:56 to know what
00:12:56 --> 00:12:56 to expect
00:12:56 --> 00:12:57 in a Christian
00:12:57 --> 00:12:58 walk.
00:12:59 --> 00:13:00 He doesn't want
00:13:00 --> 00:13:01 to lose his
00:13:01 --> 00:13:01 disciples
00:13:01 --> 00:13:02 and so he's
00:13:02 --> 00:13:03 preparing them.
00:13:04 --> 00:13:04 And Jesus
00:13:04 --> 00:13:05 in his final
00:13:05 --> 00:13:06 moments
00:13:06 --> 00:13:07 gives them
00:13:07 --> 00:13:08 such an
00:13:08 --> 00:13:09 awesome view
00:13:09 --> 00:13:10 of God
00:13:10 --> 00:13:11 he's making
00:13:11 --> 00:13:12 sure that they
00:13:12 --> 00:13:13 get to God
00:13:13 --> 00:13:14 and don't
00:13:14 --> 00:13:14 fall away
00:13:14 --> 00:13:15 like Judas.
00:13:16 --> 00:13:16 He's not
00:13:16 --> 00:13:17 pretending that
00:13:17 --> 00:13:18 everything's fine
00:13:18 --> 00:13:18 don't worry
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 follow me
00:13:19 --> 00:13:20 after I die
00:13:20 --> 00:13:21 it's all
00:13:21 --> 00:13:21 going to be
00:13:21 --> 00:13:21 hunky-dory
00:13:21 --> 00:13:23 you know
00:13:23 --> 00:13:23 there's not
00:13:23 --> 00:13:23 going to be
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 any problems
00:13:24 --> 00:13:24 at all.
00:13:24 --> 00:13:25 It's not that.
00:13:27 --> 00:13:27 Far better
00:13:27 --> 00:13:28 for Jesus

00:13:46 --> 00:13:47 how to preach
00:13:47 --> 00:13:48 in a way
00:13:48 --> 00:13:49 so that at
00:13:49 --> 00:13:49 the end
00:13:49 --> 00:13:50 you can call
00:13:50 --> 00:13:51 people to
00:13:51 --> 00:13:52 follow Jesus
00:13:52 --> 00:13:52 you know
00:13:52 --> 00:13:53 come down
00:13:53 --> 00:13:53 the front
00:13:53 --> 00:13:53 put your
00:13:53 --> 00:13:54 hand up
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 whatever way

00:23:21 --> 00:23:22 general and I'm
00:23:22 --> 00:23:23 always tempted
00:23:23 --> 00:23:24 to engage
00:23:24 --> 00:23:25 and try and
00:23:25 --> 00:23:26 point out in a
00:23:26 --> 00:23:27 helpful way why
00:23:27 --> 00:23:27 they're wrong
00:23:27 --> 00:23:28 about Jesus but
00:23:28 --> 00:23:30 it never works
00:23:30 --> 00:23:31 it never goes
00:23:31 --> 00:23:33 well it just
00:23:33 --> 00:23:34 devolves into
00:23:34 --> 00:23:35 argument upon
00:23:35 --> 00:23:38 argument and
00:23:38 --> 00:23:39 so these are
00:23:39 --> 00:23:40 these are two
00:23:40 --> 00:23:41 ways not to
00:23:41 --> 00:23:42 confront sin I
00:23:42 --> 00:23:43 don't think there's
00:23:43 --> 00:23:43 anything helpful on
00:23:43 --> 00:23:45 Facebook when it
00:23:45 --> 00:23:46 comes to arguing
00:23:46 --> 00:23:47 about Christianity
00:23:47 --> 00:23:49 but let me
00:23:49 --> 00:23:50 encourage you to
00:23:50 --> 00:23:51 testify to
00:23:51 --> 00:23:52 Jesus' identity
00:23:52 --> 00:23:54 and to
00:23:54 --> 00:23:54 confront the
00:23:54 --> 00:23:55 sin in the
00:23:55 --> 00:23:56 world in two
00:23:56 --> 00:23:58 ways quietly
00:23:58 --> 00:24:00 and loudly
00:24:00 --> 00:24:02 quietly first
00:24:02 --> 00:24:03 of all by
00:24:03 --> 00:24:04 personally mentioning
00:24:04 --> 00:24:06 it to someone
00:24:06 --> 00:24:07 maybe a friend
00:24:07 --> 00:24:08 maybe you see a
00:24:08 --> 00:24:10 friend making
00:24:10 --> 00:24:10 some poor
00:24:10 --> 00:24:12 decisions about
00:24:12 --> 00:24:12 their life
00:24:12 --> 00:24:14 some decisions
00:24:14 --> 00:24:15 that you know
00:24:15 --> 00:24:15 will have
00:24:15 --> 00:24:16 consequences
00:24:16 --> 00:24:17 you know that
00:24:17 --> 00:24:18 Jesus said if
00:24:18 --> 00:24:19 you go down
00:24:19 --> 00:24:20 this path it
00:24:20 --> 00:24:21 will not go
00:24:21 --> 00:24:22 well for you
00:24:22 --> 00:24:24 and so speak
00:24:24 --> 00:24:25 quietly to them
00:24:25 --> 00:24:26 whether it's a
00:24:26 --> 00:24:27 Christian or a
00:24:27 --> 00:24:27 non-Christian
00:24:27 --> 00:24:29 friend maybe
00:24:29 --> 00:24:31 you don't want
00:24:31 --> 00:24:32 to do this this
00:24:32 --> 00:24:32 is going to go
00:24:32 --> 00:24:33 poorly for you
00:24:33 --> 00:24:35 people might be
00:24:35 --> 00:24:36 able to hear this
00:24:36 --> 00:24:37 if it's done
00:24:37 --> 00:24:37 well people might
00:24:37 --> 00:24:38 get defensive
00:24:38 --> 00:24:40 but this is a
00:24:40 --> 00:24:41 way to speak to
00:24:41 --> 00:24:42 people in a
00:24:42 --> 00:24:42 loving way to
00:24:42 --> 00:24:43 confront their sin
00:24:43 --> 00:24:44 it probably won't
00:24:44 --> 00:24:45 destroy friendships
00:24:45 --> 00:24:47 the second way
00:24:47 --> 00:24:48 is loudly
00:24:48 --> 00:24:50 sometimes we
00:24:50 --> 00:24:51 need to speak
00:24:51 --> 00:24:51 loudly
00:24:51 --> 00:24:53 for those who
00:24:53 --> 00:24:53 don't have a
00:24:53 --> 00:24:54 voice
00:24:54 --> 00:24:56 for the life
00:24:56 --> 00:24:57 of the unborn
00:24:57 --> 00:24:58 for the rights
00:24:58 --> 00:24:59 of refugees
00:24:59 --> 00:25:01 even if it
00:25:01 --> 00:25:02 makes our life
00:25:02 --> 00:25:03 uncomfortable
00:25:03 --> 00:25:05 in China
00:25:05 --> 00:25:06 there is a
00:25:06 --> 00:25:07 pastor of a
00:25:07 --> 00:25:07 Chinese church
00:25:07 --> 00:25:08 called early
00:25:08 --> 00:25:09 rain in
00:25:09 --> 00:25:09 Chengdu
00:25:09 --> 00:25:09 province
00:25:09 --> 00:25:10 his name is
00:25:10 --> 00:25:11 pastor Wang
00:25:11 --> 00:25:11 Yi
00:25:11 --> 00:25:13 and he has
00:25:13 --> 00:25:13 been doing
00:25:13 --> 00:25:14 exactly this
00:25:14 --> 00:25:15 he has been
00:25:15 --> 00:25:16 preaching the
00:25:16 --> 00:25:17 gospel faithfully

00:25:18 --> 00:25:19 pressure to be

00:27:41 --> 00:27:43 prepared for an
00:27:43 --> 00:27:44 uncomfortable life

00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 would be arrested
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 one day which is
00:27:47 --> 00:27:48 why he had that
00:27:48 --> 00:27:49 declaration published
00:27:49 --> 00:27:50 beforehand
00:27:50 --> 00:27:53 Jesus prepares his
00:27:53 --> 00:27:54 disciples to have
00:27:54 --> 00:27:55 an uncomfortable
00:27:55 --> 00:27:57 life in the
00:27:57 --> 00:27:58 light of our
00:27:58 --> 00:28:00 hope of eternal
