The Heavens Declare the Glory of God!
Speaker: Chris Jones
Date: 3rd October 2010
Passage: Psalm 19:1-14
00:00:00 --> 00:00:04 And good day everybody, let's bow our heads to our praying.
00:00:05 --> 00:00:11 Heavenly Father, by your spirit and through your words, speak to us right now and please
00:00:11 --> 00:00:18 be changing and transforming our thoughts and our attitudes and our beliefs to be in
00:00:18 --> 00:00:23 accordance with yours and in accordance with what is true, that we would be changed and
00:00:23 --> 00:00:24 transformed.
00:00:24 --> 00:00:27 In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
00:00:27 --> 00:00:35 How would you rate yourself if you applied consumer standards to how you worship God?
00:00:36 --> 00:00:42 So, you know, if your car starts two out of three, do you go back to the dealer and say,
00:00:42 --> 00:00:43 that's okay?
00:00:44 --> 00:00:50 Or if your refrigerator works for a day or two or stops working for a day or two every
00:00:50 --> 00:00:53 once in a while, would you think, well, it works most of the time, it'll do?
00:00:53 --> 00:00:59 Or my iPhone locks up every couple of hours but it works all the rest of the time, then
00:00:59 --> 00:01:00 I'm happy with that.
00:01:01 --> 00:01:01 Yes?
00:01:02 --> 00:01:06 Or the water heater delivers an icy cold shower every now and then, is it dependable?
00:01:07 --> 00:01:11 If you miss a couple of loan payments every 12 months, do the bank say to you, well, 10
00:01:11 --> 00:01:12 out of 12 ain't bad.
00:01:12 --> 00:01:21 So, if you read your Bible once a month, if you come to church when you feel like it, if
00:01:21 --> 00:01:25 you won't meet in a small group because you don't like the people in it, if you're always
00:01:25 --> 00:01:31 grumbling about brothers and sisters not meeting your standards, if you're always expecting
00:01:31 --> 00:01:36 to be served and never serve, what's that say about you?
00:01:36 --> 00:01:43 Not other people, you and for me, what's it say about me when I do those things?
00:01:44 --> 00:01:48 Now, don't take that as a guilt trip, just say it as a thoughtful challenge and I'll now
00:01:48 --> 00:01:51 tell you that that was a very unfair thing for a preacher to do.
00:01:51 --> 00:01:52 Do you know why?
00:01:54 --> 00:01:57 Because we are always faulty, aren't we?
00:01:58 --> 00:02:02 And we are not perfect except through the grace of Christ, so I don't want to press it
00:02:02 --> 00:02:02 too far.
00:02:02 --> 00:02:07 We don't become part of God's family by measuring up to a set of performance standards.
00:02:08 --> 00:02:13 We are here by the grace and mercy of Christ, but the way we live does reflect our view of
00:02:13 --> 00:02:18 God and ourselves and that's a bit why I've used it just now, because in a sense our lives
00:02:18 --> 00:02:22 are a practical demonstration of what Christ means to us.
00:02:23 --> 00:02:28 And I think a lot of the time, and this is true for me and it probably is true for you
00:02:28 --> 00:02:35 in some measure, our lives project an inadequate view of God and his majesty.
00:02:37 --> 00:02:39 This is the third message in a row.
00:02:39 --> 00:02:43 We didn't plan a preaching series, this is something that God has stitched together.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:50 But it's a third message in a row where the glory of God has been on display in the Bible
00:02:50 --> 00:02:52 passages which we have been preaching.
00:02:52 --> 00:03:00 So two weeks ago Steve preached to us from Isaiah 6, one week ago I think Sam spoke to
00:03:00 --> 00:03:05 us from Psalm 8, O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
00:03:06 --> 00:03:10 And then having said that, said, and what are people that you even take notice of them and
00:03:10 --> 00:03:11 regard them?
00:03:11 --> 00:03:17 And today, tonight, I come to Psalm 19.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:19 And this is a psalm that C.S.
00:03:19 --> 00:03:24 Lewis, the great writer, described as the greatest poem in the Psalms and one of the greatest
00:03:24 --> 00:03:26 lyrics in the world.
00:03:26 --> 00:03:27 I'm going to read from there.
00:03:27 --> 00:03:32 Psalm 19, verse 1, fantastic if you're following your Bibles as I speak.
00:03:32 --> 00:03:39 The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
00:03:39 --> 00:03:44 Day after day they pour forth speech, night after night they display knowledge.
00:03:45 --> 00:03:51 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard, their voice goes out into
00:03:51 --> 00:03:55 all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
00:03:56 --> 00:04:01 In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth
00:04:01 --> 00:04:06 from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run its course.
00:04:07 --> 00:04:12 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other, and there is nothing
00:04:12 --> 00:04:14 hidden from its heat.
00:04:15 --> 00:04:21 So the writer looks up into the daytime sky, and he looks up into the nighttime sky, and
00:04:21 --> 00:04:24 he says, wow, it speaks.
00:04:28 --> 00:04:31 And it's telling us how glorious God is.
00:04:31 --> 00:04:38 The heavens declare the glory of God, the sky proclaims the work of his hands.
00:04:38 --> 00:04:46 And then in verse 2, day after day, they pour forth speech, night after night they display
00:04:46 --> 00:04:47 knowledge.
00:04:47 --> 00:04:50 The heavens are always speaking, they never stop.
00:04:51 --> 00:04:54 The only time you don't see them speaking is when the cloud goes over.
00:04:55 --> 00:05:02 And they are speaking every day, and they are speaking every night, and they never stop
00:05:02 --> 00:05:04 telling us that God is glorious.
00:05:07 --> 00:05:13 And he says to us, there's no speech, there's no language, there's nowhere on the earth that
00:05:13 --> 00:05:14 their voice is not heard.
00:05:15 --> 00:05:20 Every person on the earth hears the same message in every place and in every language.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:24 And we're being told how glorious God is.
00:05:25 --> 00:05:28 They tell us what an extraordinary creator we have.
00:05:28 --> 00:05:29 He's an artist.
00:05:29 --> 00:05:31 The universe is his canvas.
00:05:31 --> 00:05:34 Every person on the planet lives in his gallery.
00:05:35 --> 00:05:41 So every man, every woman, every child has an opportunity to be blown away by his artistry.
00:05:41 --> 00:05:44 And he uses this daytime illustration.
00:05:44 --> 00:05:46 It's a wonderful illustration.
00:05:46 --> 00:05:50 The sun coming up in the morning, rising out of his tent, coming out like the champion,
00:05:51 --> 00:05:51 ready to do battle.
00:05:52 --> 00:05:54 And he marches across the heavens.
00:05:54 --> 00:05:55 Boom, boom, boom.
00:05:55 --> 00:05:56 And he puts his heat on everyone.
00:05:57 --> 00:06:00 I don't see many sunrises, to be honest.
00:06:01 --> 00:06:05 But I did see a magnificent sunrise a couple of years ago.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:07 We were on holidays on the central coast.
00:06:07 --> 00:06:10 And I think Gary and I woke up early in the dark.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:12 And I said, oh, it must be nearly sunrise.
00:06:12 --> 00:06:13 Let's go and sit on the sand dune.
00:06:14 --> 00:06:16 And we went and sat on the sand dune.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:21 And it's like waiting for a great performance to begin.
00:06:21 --> 00:06:24 You see the horizon begins to lighten.
00:06:24 --> 00:06:27 And it seems like it's just about to happen.
00:06:27 --> 00:06:28 And the suspense is growing.
00:06:28 --> 00:06:29 A bit like Giant Jenga.
00:06:29 --> 00:06:32 The suspense is growing and growing and growing.
00:06:32 --> 00:06:33 And you think it must be there.
00:06:33 --> 00:06:38 And then suddenly the golden crown comes across the horizon.
00:06:38 --> 00:06:41 And the sun marches up at speed.
00:06:41 --> 00:06:46 You watch it growing and growing and growing over the horizon before it gets set and comes.
00:06:46 --> 00:06:49 And it is the most magnificent display.
00:06:49 --> 00:06:50 And do you know what?
00:06:50 --> 00:06:51 That happens every day.
00:06:51 --> 00:06:58 I've got to tell you.
00:06:59 --> 00:07:02 Some people pick a passage like this and they say,
00:07:03 --> 00:07:06 oh, the Bible's so out of date and unsophisticated.
00:07:07 --> 00:07:09 The sun doesn't go round the earth.
00:07:10 --> 00:07:12 The earth goes round the sun.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:13 Duh.
00:07:13 --> 00:07:18 And I as the preacher want to say, you're not fair.
00:07:19 --> 00:07:20 That's so unfair.
00:07:20 --> 00:07:25 This is written 3 years ago before we had telescopes and Copernicus and everybody.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:32 And the person who wrote this down has used the most magnificent poetry to describe this awesome event which happens every day.
00:07:32 --> 00:07:38 He's blown away by the wonder of creation.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:46 And I think we have to be really, really careful with all our sophistication and our science that we lose the wonder.
00:07:47 --> 00:07:48 Oh, yeah, we know it goes.
00:07:48 --> 00:07:49 The earth goes round the sun.
00:07:49 --> 00:07:52 It's held in elliptical order by the Jupiter out there and all the rest.
00:07:52 --> 00:07:54 I mean, we just lose it.
00:07:55 --> 00:07:58 It's true, but we lose the wonder.
00:07:58 --> 00:08:02 I can think of another moment of wonder.
00:08:02 --> 00:08:04 Who's had the last little baby?
00:08:04 --> 00:08:05 Annabelle, is she the last one out?
00:08:08 --> 00:08:09 Well, just checking.
00:08:13 --> 00:08:15 Isn't there something wondrous about that moment?
00:08:16 --> 00:08:18 I mean, we could stand there.
00:08:18 --> 00:08:21 We could have the medicos out the front and they could tell us about how it all happens.
00:08:21 --> 00:08:26 But you've got to be there in the moment to appreciate just how wonderful this is.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:33 It's cool.
00:08:34 --> 00:08:36 And I've been there five times.
00:08:36 --> 00:08:37 I can tell you it's really wonderful.
00:08:38 --> 00:08:39 Kerry might say differently.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:43 No, I think she'll say it's really wonderful, but it was really easy for you.
00:08:44 --> 00:08:44 Okay?
00:08:45 --> 00:08:47 I love being in the bush.
00:08:47 --> 00:08:49 And clear, moonless night.
00:08:49 --> 00:08:51 That's the other picture that's here in Psalm 19.
00:08:51 --> 00:08:52 Clear, moonless night.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:53 You gaze into the heavens.
00:08:53 --> 00:08:58 My son Andrew went on an excursion to the Warren Bungles, which wasn't far from where we lived at Wee War.
00:08:59 --> 00:09:00 And they went to the planetarium.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:07 And he came back with all this knowledge that I've never had before about which constellations and galaxies are out there and what you can see.
00:09:07 --> 00:09:09 And he got me to take him out of town.
00:09:09 --> 00:09:10 And we went out to somebody's property.
00:09:11 --> 00:09:14 And we were way away from town.
00:09:14 --> 00:09:15 We were way away from the house.
00:09:15 --> 00:09:16 We turned off the lights.
00:09:16 --> 00:09:17 There was no moon.
00:09:18 --> 00:09:18 Pitch black.
00:09:18 --> 00:09:20 We looked up into the heavens.
00:09:20 --> 00:09:21 And the sky just comes alive.
00:09:22 --> 00:09:24 You see that many stars.
00:09:25 --> 00:09:27 And you just go, wow.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:29 And I know what I did with him.
00:09:29 --> 00:09:33 He stood there and he said to me, Dad, that's the serpent over there on the horizon.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:34 See the stars?
00:09:34 --> 00:09:35 And that's Scorpio up there.
00:09:35 --> 00:09:38 And I'm going, boy, I wish I could remember what he's remembered.
00:09:38 --> 00:09:40 But he could see things that I couldn't even see.
00:09:41 --> 00:09:43 And it was just fantastic to have them shown to me.
00:09:43 --> 00:09:44 You don't see stars like that in Sydney.
00:09:44 --> 00:09:51 But the enormity and the vastness of the universe stirred me.
00:09:51 --> 00:09:52 We stood there.
00:09:52 --> 00:09:53 We prayed.
00:09:53 --> 00:09:58 And we gave God thanks and the glory for what he has made.
00:09:58 --> 00:10:02 We could look at those things and say, thank you, God.
00:10:02 --> 00:10:03 You are awesome.
00:10:03 --> 00:10:04 You are creator.
00:10:04 --> 00:10:07 You are magnificent in what you have brought into being.
00:10:08 --> 00:10:09 And you allow us to share in that.
00:10:09 --> 00:10:15 So for us, the glory of the heavens told us about the glory of God.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:18 They told us about the majesty of our creator.
00:10:19 --> 00:10:24 Psalm 19 says to us that every person on the planet hears the same message.
00:10:25 --> 00:10:29 Every person, every language spoken to in exactly the same way,
00:10:29 --> 00:10:31 the heavens are declaring the glory of God.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:35 If everybody could understand in our church family my message tonight,
00:10:35 --> 00:10:39 we would not have Chinese, Cantonese and Mandarin congregations.
00:10:39 --> 00:10:42 We would all be building a bigger building and we'd be in the one place
00:10:42 --> 00:10:45 and we'd be brothers and sisters in Christ understanding one another.
00:10:46 --> 00:10:50 But Psalm 19 speaks in a universal language which is heard by everyone.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:58 Romans chapter 10 verse 19, no, Romans chapter 10 verse 18 quotes Psalm 19.
00:10:59 --> 00:11:03 And it applies Psalm 19 to what people hear.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:07 And the context is that God has something to say,
00:11:08 --> 00:11:10 but not everybody's obedient to it.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:16 So in Romans, Paul goes back and he grabs Psalm 19 and he says,
00:11:16 --> 00:11:18 but I asked, did they not hear?
00:11:18 --> 00:11:19 Of course they did.
00:11:20 --> 00:11:22 Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
00:11:22 --> 00:11:24 their words to the ends of the world.
00:11:25 --> 00:11:27 The heavens are speaking.
00:11:27 --> 00:11:29 They are declaring God's glory.
00:11:29 --> 00:11:37 But just because something's said doesn't mean it's heard or acted on.
00:11:39 --> 00:11:41 So mum and dad and mum says,
00:11:41 --> 00:11:42 dinner's ready.
00:11:44 --> 00:11:45 Why do you laugh?
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 Because you do what I do sometimes.
00:11:51 --> 00:11:54 The message goes out and it's not responded to, is it?
00:11:54 --> 00:12:01 And I had the silly occasion the other week I came in as the family was finishing dinner
00:12:01 --> 00:12:02 and I said, I didn't even know you'd started.
00:12:02 --> 00:12:03 But there you go.
00:12:06 --> 00:12:10 The ancient Greeks and Romans heard the heavens speak
00:12:10 --> 00:12:13 and they turned them into gods.
00:12:13 --> 00:12:19 The Darwinian evolutionist hears the heavens speak
00:12:19 --> 00:12:24 and praises the random forces of nature for what they've achieved.
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 Isn't that a nonsense?
00:12:28 --> 00:12:32 I think it's very human to be thrilled by the wonder of creation.
00:12:33 --> 00:12:35 I think every greenie does it, don't they?
00:12:35 --> 00:12:37 They look at it and they just say, this is so magnificent.
00:12:37 --> 00:12:39 Look at how it all fits together.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:44 Everybody who's been to the US that I know and sees the Grand Canyon,
00:12:44 --> 00:12:46 I haven't seen it yet, just goes, wow.
00:12:47 --> 00:12:51 Or to Nepal or North India and sees the Himalayas.
00:12:51 --> 00:12:53 They're blown away by what they see.
00:12:55 --> 00:12:58 But just because you see something that makes you go, wow,
00:12:58 --> 00:13:00 doesn't mean that you give glory to our maker.
00:13:03 --> 00:13:07 And the Bible tells us that we're going to be held accountable for what we've heard.
00:13:07 --> 00:13:09 Romans 1, verse 18,
00:13:10 --> 00:13:12 that the anger of God is being revealed from heaven
00:13:12 --> 00:13:15 against all the godlessness and wickedness of people
00:13:15 --> 00:13:18 who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
00:13:19 --> 00:13:21 Since what may be known about God is plain to them.
00:13:22 --> 00:13:24 Because God's made it plain to them.
00:13:26 --> 00:13:27 For since the creation of the world,
00:13:28 --> 00:13:29 God's invisible qualities,
00:13:30 --> 00:13:32 his eternal power and his divine nature
00:13:32 --> 00:13:34 have been clearly seen,
00:13:34 --> 00:13:37 being understood from what has been made
00:13:37 --> 00:13:39 so that people are without excuse.
00:13:44 --> 00:13:47 Psalmist stands in awe of the silent heavens
00:13:47 --> 00:13:49 and he hears them saying,
00:13:50 --> 00:13:52 God is glorious.
00:13:54 --> 00:13:57 And he gives glory and honour and praise
00:13:57 --> 00:13:59 to the unseen God who has made them.
00:13:59 --> 00:14:03 The heavens declare the glory of God,
00:14:03 --> 00:14:05 the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
00:14:09 --> 00:14:12 The writer doesn't personalise God at this stage.
00:14:12 --> 00:14:15 He actually uses a very general name for God.
00:14:15 --> 00:14:15 It's L, E-L.
00:14:15 --> 00:14:21 We sometimes sing a song like El Shaddai.
00:14:21 --> 00:14:23 It means God Almighty.
00:14:25 --> 00:14:27 The L part just means God.
00:14:27 --> 00:14:29 And sometimes in the Bible, in the Old Testament,
00:14:30 --> 00:14:32 it's even used for other gods,
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 not even the true God, just God.
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 The creation speaks.
00:14:41 --> 00:14:43 Yes, it declares a glorious God.
00:14:45 --> 00:14:47 But the next part of the psalm says
00:14:47 --> 00:14:49 that God himself speaks.
00:14:51 --> 00:14:55 And God is a God who reveals himself in words.
00:14:56 --> 00:14:56 So verse 7.
00:14:58 --> 00:15:01 The law of the Lord is perfect,
00:15:01 --> 00:15:02 reviving the soul.
00:15:03 --> 00:15:05 The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
00:15:06 --> 00:15:07 making wise the simple.
00:15:07 --> 00:15:11 The precepts of the Lord are right,
00:15:11 --> 00:15:12 giving joy to the heart.
00:15:13 --> 00:15:15 The commands of the Lord are radiant,
00:15:15 --> 00:15:17 giving light to the eyes.
00:15:18 --> 00:15:20 The fear of the Lord is pure and enduring forever.
00:15:21 --> 00:15:24 The ordinances of the Lord are sure
00:15:24 --> 00:15:25 and altogether righteous.
00:15:26 --> 00:15:28 They are more precious than gold,
00:15:28 --> 00:15:29 than much pure gold.
00:15:30 --> 00:15:32 They are sweeter than honey,
00:15:32 --> 00:15:33 than honey from the comb.
00:15:34 --> 00:15:35 Now this time he actually changes
00:15:35 --> 00:15:37 the word he uses for God.
00:15:37 --> 00:15:39 And I think Sam talked about this last week,
00:15:39 --> 00:15:41 but he said he uses the word Yahweh,
00:15:41 --> 00:15:42 the Lord.
00:15:43 --> 00:15:45 He uses the special name of God
00:15:45 --> 00:15:46 which was revealed to Moses
00:15:46 --> 00:15:47 in the Old Testament.
00:15:49 --> 00:15:50 And the Lord isn't somebody
00:15:50 --> 00:15:52 who is merely out there in the heavens
00:15:52 --> 00:15:54 and standing aloof and all remote.
00:15:54 --> 00:15:55 He has come very close to people
00:15:55 --> 00:15:58 and his people know him personally.
00:15:58 --> 00:15:59 They know his name.
00:16:00 --> 00:16:02 He's revealed himself to them
00:16:02 --> 00:16:03 in words and in actions.
00:16:03 --> 00:16:06 God has reached down to us.
00:16:08 --> 00:16:09 And it's why Christian faith,
00:16:10 --> 00:16:13 I hate it when it's even referred to as a religion,
00:16:13 --> 00:16:14 Christianity as a religion.
00:16:14 --> 00:16:15 This is not religion.
00:16:15 --> 00:16:17 This is relationship with the living God
00:16:17 --> 00:16:18 of the universe.
00:16:20 --> 00:16:22 See, religion is about reaching up to God
00:16:22 --> 00:16:23 and trying to grab hold of God,
00:16:24 --> 00:16:25 whatever he might look like
00:16:25 --> 00:16:26 or however he might be,
00:16:26 --> 00:16:28 trying to keep God's happy.
00:16:28 --> 00:16:33 Some of the nations that God threw out of Israel
00:16:33 --> 00:16:35 were nations that worshipped
00:16:35 --> 00:16:37 by burning their kids in fire
00:16:37 --> 00:16:40 so that they'd make their God happy.
00:16:41 --> 00:16:44 They wanted their gods to make their lives easy,
00:16:44 --> 00:16:46 to protect them from flood and drought
00:16:46 --> 00:16:47 and sickness and disease
00:16:47 --> 00:16:48 and give them a crop,
00:16:48 --> 00:16:50 give them an income.
00:16:51 --> 00:16:53 And it's almost like our prayers become sometimes,
00:16:53 --> 00:16:55 Lord, just give us what we want,
00:16:55 --> 00:16:56 give us what we need,
00:16:56 --> 00:16:58 rather than actually seeing who he is
00:16:58 --> 00:16:59 and his glory
00:16:59 --> 00:17:01 and seeing that he's the one
00:17:01 --> 00:17:02 who's actually reached down to us,
00:17:03 --> 00:17:04 that we don't have to make him happy
00:17:04 --> 00:17:06 because he's taken the initiative
00:17:06 --> 00:17:08 to bring us into relationship with him.
00:17:10 --> 00:17:11 The law of the Lord,
00:17:12 --> 00:17:13 the statutes of the Lord,
00:17:13 --> 00:17:14 the precepts of the Lord,
00:17:14 --> 00:17:16 the commands of the Lord,
00:17:16 --> 00:17:17 the fear of the Lord,
00:17:18 --> 00:17:19 the ordinances of the Lord.
00:17:22 --> 00:17:24 It's all the things that we find in the scriptures,
00:17:24 --> 00:17:25 the Old Testament in particular,
00:17:26 --> 00:17:28 are the people of God in the Old Testament
00:17:28 --> 00:17:30 relating through the law,
00:17:30 --> 00:17:32 the scriptures given through Moses.
00:17:34 --> 00:17:36 What God gave his people
00:17:36 --> 00:17:38 was the information that they needed
00:17:38 --> 00:17:40 to relate to him in a right way.
00:17:42 --> 00:17:43 His laws reveal his character.
00:17:44 --> 00:17:46 The majesty of God is revealed in his word.
00:17:46 --> 00:17:48 He is very good to his people.
00:17:49 --> 00:17:51 The New Testament takes us even further
00:17:51 --> 00:17:54 and tells us even more about what God has done.
00:17:54 --> 00:17:55 John 1, verse 14,
00:17:56 --> 00:17:57 where we were a minute ago.
00:17:57 --> 00:17:58 The word became flesh
00:17:58 --> 00:18:00 and made his dwelling among us.
00:18:01 --> 00:18:02 We have seen his glory,
00:18:03 --> 00:18:04 the glory of the one and only
00:18:04 --> 00:18:05 who came from the Father,
00:18:06 --> 00:18:07 full of grace and truth.
00:18:09 --> 00:18:11 Jesus Christ has stepped into the world,
00:18:12 --> 00:18:13 left his throne in heaven,
00:18:14 --> 00:18:16 left his Father and come amongst us
00:18:16 --> 00:18:18 and revealed the glory of God to us
00:18:18 --> 00:18:20 in his own person.
00:18:20 --> 00:18:24 Hebrews 1, verse 1,
00:18:24 --> 00:18:26 In the past God spoke to our forefathers
00:18:26 --> 00:18:27 through the prophets
00:18:27 --> 00:18:31 at many times and in various ways.
00:18:32 --> 00:18:34 But in these last days
00:18:34 --> 00:18:36 he has spoken to us by his Son,
00:18:37 --> 00:18:39 whom he appointed heir of all things
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 and through whom he made the universe.
00:18:44 --> 00:18:46 God is a God who speaks
00:18:46 --> 00:18:48 and he still speaks.
00:18:48 --> 00:18:53 He's spoken to us through the person of his Son.
00:18:54 --> 00:18:56 He's proved his love to us
00:18:56 --> 00:18:57 through the death and resurrection
00:18:57 --> 00:18:59 of the Lord Jesus Christ.
00:18:59 --> 00:19:02 He has shown how seriously he takes our sin
00:19:02 --> 00:19:05 and God has made a sacrifice for us
00:19:05 --> 00:19:07 which turns away his anger.
00:19:11 --> 00:19:13 Listen to the wonderful words
00:19:13 --> 00:19:15 which describe the power of God's word.
00:19:15 --> 00:19:18 God revives the soul.
00:19:19 --> 00:19:20 It's trustworthy.
00:19:22 --> 00:19:24 Makes simple people wise.
00:19:24 --> 00:19:26 You don't have to be clever to be a Christian.
00:19:28 --> 00:19:30 Gives joy to the heart.
00:19:31 --> 00:19:32 Light to the eyes.
00:19:33 --> 00:19:34 It endures forever.
00:19:36 --> 00:19:37 It's sure.
00:19:37 --> 00:19:38 It's righteous.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:39 It's precious.
00:19:39 --> 00:19:45 I think so many of the things
00:19:45 --> 00:19:47 that we hunger for in life
00:19:47 --> 00:19:48 can only come from God
00:19:48 --> 00:19:49 and from his word.
00:19:50 --> 00:19:52 Only come from God and his word.
00:19:54 --> 00:19:57 See, we seek satisfaction in relationships
00:19:57 --> 00:20:01 and we experience disappointment.
00:20:01 --> 00:20:05 Sometimes, I guess, you know,
00:20:05 --> 00:20:07 we look for a boyfriend or a girlfriend
00:20:07 --> 00:20:07 and we just think,
00:20:08 --> 00:20:10 oh, that'll make life so much better at the moment
00:20:10 --> 00:20:12 and maybe that's a nice thing
00:20:12 --> 00:20:13 and a good thing that God's given
00:20:13 --> 00:20:15 but it doesn't solve all our problems
00:20:15 --> 00:20:17 and meet all our emptiness.
00:20:19 --> 00:20:21 And those of us who are married
00:20:21 --> 00:20:22 know that even the best marriages
00:20:22 --> 00:20:25 have their moments of biting disappointment.
00:20:25 --> 00:20:32 Or we look for joy in wealth
00:20:32 --> 00:20:34 and possessions and things
00:20:34 --> 00:20:37 and we find worry.
00:20:39 --> 00:20:41 And the more we have,
00:20:41 --> 00:20:43 the more effort it takes to look after it.
00:20:46 --> 00:20:47 I haven't got a pool
00:20:47 --> 00:20:52 and I can't afford one
00:20:52 --> 00:20:53 and I don't think the parish
00:20:53 --> 00:20:55 is about to put one down at Rain Street
00:20:55 --> 00:20:55 either.
00:20:57 --> 00:20:58 Unless it's a Clark paddle pool
00:20:58 --> 00:20:59 or something like that.
00:21:01 --> 00:21:02 You should look at me and go,
00:21:03 --> 00:21:04 life's tough, eh?
00:21:07 --> 00:21:07 Not really.
00:21:08 --> 00:21:09 But let me tell you,
00:21:09 --> 00:21:10 over on the northern beaches
00:21:10 --> 00:21:11 where my mum lives,
00:21:11 --> 00:21:12 she's got a,
00:21:12 --> 00:21:13 they've got family that lives next door
00:21:13 --> 00:21:15 and they have this wonderful pool.
00:21:16 --> 00:21:18 And they go away on holidays,
00:21:18 --> 00:21:19 they let me swim in it.
00:21:20 --> 00:21:22 And I can go over there
00:21:22 --> 00:21:23 and I can swim in it for Nick
00:21:23 --> 00:21:24 so I don't have to pay anything,
00:21:24 --> 00:21:25 I don't have to put the chemicals in,
00:21:25 --> 00:21:26 I don't have to clean it,
00:21:26 --> 00:21:27 I don't have to pay the loan
00:21:27 --> 00:21:28 at the bank,
00:21:28 --> 00:21:30 I can just go and swim in it.
00:21:30 --> 00:21:31 It's great fun.
00:21:34 --> 00:21:35 I reckon if you own a pool,
00:21:35 --> 00:21:37 it must suck to have to look after it.
00:21:37 --> 00:21:40 And if you've got a pool
00:21:40 --> 00:21:41 and you let me swim in it,
00:21:42 --> 00:21:43 thank you.
00:21:49 --> 00:21:50 So Songwriter found,
00:21:50 --> 00:21:53 he found great joy and security
00:21:53 --> 00:21:55 of relationship in God's law.
00:21:56 --> 00:21:58 In relationship with God.
00:21:58 --> 00:22:00 God has done something incredibly precious
00:22:00 --> 00:22:27 when he spoke to us in words.
00:22:28 --> 00:22:30 He revealed what he's like
00:22:30 --> 00:22:31 and at the same time
00:22:31 --> 00:22:32 he overwhelms us
00:22:32 --> 00:22:33 with what we are not like.
00:22:35 --> 00:22:37 And that brings the response
00:22:37 --> 00:22:37 from the Songwriter
00:22:37 --> 00:22:40 which we read in the very last verses.
00:22:40 --> 00:22:43 Verse 12,
00:22:43 --> 00:22:44 Who can discern his errors?
00:22:46 --> 00:22:48 Forgive my hidden faults.
00:22:49 --> 00:22:52 Keep your servant also from willful sins.
00:22:52 --> 00:22:53 May they not rule over me.
00:22:55 --> 00:22:57 And then I will be blameless,
00:22:57 --> 00:22:58 innocent of great transgression.
00:23:00 --> 00:23:02 May the words of my mouth
00:23:02 --> 00:23:03 and the meditation of my heart
00:23:03 --> 00:23:04 be pleasing in your sight,
00:23:04 --> 00:23:06 O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
00:23:06 --> 00:23:06 No.
00:23:09 --> 00:23:10 It's a great ending
00:23:10 --> 00:23:11 but I've got to tell you
00:23:11 --> 00:23:12 the first time I read it
00:23:12 --> 00:23:14 and many times I've read that
00:23:14 --> 00:23:16 and I really had no idea
00:23:16 --> 00:23:18 how to connect it
00:23:18 --> 00:23:19 to what has just gone before.
00:23:20 --> 00:23:22 And I really read the psalm
00:23:22 --> 00:23:23 and I scratched my head.
00:23:24 --> 00:23:27 But it's a glory of God response.
00:23:27 --> 00:23:31 See, the writer encounters God
00:23:31 --> 00:23:33 in creation and in his word
00:23:33 --> 00:23:34 and he is just overwhelmed
00:23:34 --> 00:23:35 by his glory.
00:23:37 --> 00:23:39 And it's like Isaiah,
00:23:39 --> 00:23:40 you know, encountering God
00:23:40 --> 00:23:42 flat on his face.
00:23:42 --> 00:23:43 Woe to me, I am ruined.
00:23:43 --> 00:23:45 I am a man of unclean lips
00:23:45 --> 00:23:46 and I live among a people
00:23:46 --> 00:23:47 of unclean lips
00:23:47 --> 00:23:49 and my eyes have seen
00:23:49 --> 00:23:51 the Lord, the King,
00:23:51 --> 00:23:52 the Lord of glory.
00:23:53 --> 00:23:54 Or Peter, you know,
00:23:54 --> 00:23:55 throw out your net
00:23:55 --> 00:23:56 on the other side,
00:23:56 --> 00:23:57 lands enough fish
00:23:57 --> 00:23:59 to secure his life
00:23:59 --> 00:24:00 for quite a while
00:24:00 --> 00:24:03 and he just goes away from me,
00:24:03 --> 00:24:04 Lord, I am a sinful man.
00:24:07 --> 00:24:08 And it's the same here.
00:24:08 --> 00:24:09 The writer sees,
00:24:10 --> 00:24:12 reflects on God's glory
00:24:12 --> 00:24:13 in creation
00:24:13 --> 00:24:14 and God's glory
00:24:14 --> 00:24:15 in his words
00:24:15 --> 00:24:17 and he becomes
00:24:17 --> 00:24:18 very aware
00:24:18 --> 00:24:20 of how far short
00:24:20 --> 00:24:20 he comes.
00:24:23 --> 00:24:24 He's reflected
00:24:24 --> 00:24:26 upon God's majesty
00:24:26 --> 00:24:27 in creation.
00:24:28 --> 00:24:29 He's thought hard
00:24:29 --> 00:24:30 about how he measures
00:24:30 --> 00:24:32 up against God's word
00:24:32 --> 00:24:34 and he's down
00:24:34 --> 00:24:34 on his knees
00:24:34 --> 00:24:36 praying for forgiveness
00:24:36 --> 00:24:37 and acceptance.
00:24:38 --> 00:24:39 It's a very moving
00:24:39 --> 00:24:40 and a marvellous reaction
00:24:40 --> 00:24:41 to the Lord God.
00:24:41 --> 00:24:42 I think it does us well
00:24:42 --> 00:24:43 to think about
00:24:43 --> 00:24:44 who wrote this.
00:24:44 --> 00:24:45 King David.
00:24:46 --> 00:24:47 Man described
00:24:47 --> 00:24:49 as after God's own heart.
00:24:50 --> 00:24:51 A man whose
00:24:51 --> 00:24:53 strengths and victories
00:24:53 --> 00:24:54 are on display
00:24:54 --> 00:24:54 in the scripture.
00:24:55 --> 00:24:56 A man whose
00:24:56 --> 00:24:58 tremendous failures
00:24:58 --> 00:24:58 in the flesh
00:24:58 --> 00:24:59 are also on display
00:24:59 --> 00:25:00 in the scripture.
00:25:03 --> 00:25:04 But he did love
00:25:04 --> 00:25:04 the Lord
00:25:04 --> 00:25:07 and God continued
00:25:07 --> 00:25:08 to work with him.
00:25:10 --> 00:25:11 And he prays
00:25:11 --> 00:25:12 in verse 12,
00:25:12 --> 00:25:12 he says,
00:25:12 --> 00:25:13 forgive my
00:25:13 --> 00:25:14 hidden faults.
00:25:16 --> 00:25:17 And verse 13,
00:25:17 --> 00:25:18 keep me from
00:25:18 --> 00:25:19 willful sins.
00:25:21 --> 00:25:21 He knows
00:25:21 --> 00:25:22 he's not perfect,
00:25:22 --> 00:25:23 he's like us,
00:25:23 --> 00:25:24 he struggles
00:25:24 --> 00:25:25 with deliberate sin,
00:25:26 --> 00:25:28 he fights against it
00:25:28 --> 00:25:29 but it's still there
00:25:29 --> 00:25:31 and he's also
00:25:31 --> 00:25:32 wise enough
00:25:32 --> 00:25:32 to know that
00:25:32 --> 00:25:33 even if he's got
00:25:33 --> 00:25:34 his will in check
00:25:34 --> 00:25:35 there are plenty
00:25:35 --> 00:25:36 of areas of his life
00:25:36 --> 00:25:37 where he falls short
00:25:37 --> 00:25:38 even if he can't see it.
00:25:38 --> 00:25:40 things like pride,
00:25:41 --> 00:25:42 you know,
00:25:42 --> 00:25:42 you struggle to be
00:25:42 --> 00:25:43 a humble man
00:25:43 --> 00:25:44 or woman
00:25:44 --> 00:25:45 and somebody says
00:25:45 --> 00:25:46 to you,
00:25:46 --> 00:25:47 boy you're a humble
00:25:47 --> 00:25:48 man or woman
00:25:48 --> 00:25:50 and then you say,
00:25:50 --> 00:25:51 I know.
00:25:53 --> 00:25:54 Doesn't work,
00:25:54 --> 00:25:54 does it?
00:25:58 --> 00:25:59 We are sinful
00:25:59 --> 00:26:00 to the core
00:26:00 --> 00:26:01 and we need
00:26:01 --> 00:26:01 a saviour.
00:26:01 --> 00:26:04 I said to our
00:26:04 --> 00:26:05 830 people this morning,
00:26:05 --> 00:26:06 I said both services
00:26:06 --> 00:26:07 really but
00:26:07 --> 00:26:09 one of the things
00:26:09 --> 00:26:11 I often don't do
00:26:11 --> 00:26:12 in a communion service
00:26:12 --> 00:26:13 with our older people
00:26:13 --> 00:26:13 and they'd really
00:26:13 --> 00:26:14 love me to do it
00:26:14 --> 00:26:15 is to read
00:26:15 --> 00:26:16 the Ten Commandments
00:26:16 --> 00:26:16 which are part
00:26:16 --> 00:26:17 of the service
00:26:17 --> 00:26:19 and a lot of old churches
00:26:19 --> 00:26:20 and this is one of them
00:26:20 --> 00:26:22 used to have
00:26:22 --> 00:26:22 a board
00:26:22 --> 00:26:24 out the front
00:26:24 --> 00:26:25 with the Ten Commandments
00:26:25 --> 00:26:25 out there in front
00:26:25 --> 00:26:26 of people all the time
00:26:26 --> 00:26:28 and they told me
00:26:28 --> 00:26:29 in the service
00:26:29 --> 00:26:29 this morning
00:26:29 --> 00:26:30 that it's in there
00:26:30 --> 00:26:33 maybe turn backwards
00:26:33 --> 00:26:34 no, it's not
00:26:34 --> 00:26:35 but I want to say
00:26:35 --> 00:26:36 it's scripture
00:26:36 --> 00:26:37 the Ten Commandments
00:26:37 --> 00:26:38 are scripture
00:26:38 --> 00:26:40 and there is nothing
00:26:40 --> 00:26:41 wrong with God's word
00:26:41 --> 00:26:42 and Jesus said nothing
00:26:42 --> 00:26:43 to turn those commandments
00:26:43 --> 00:26:44 on their head
00:26:44 --> 00:26:45 or to revoke them
00:26:45 --> 00:26:47 so in terms of
00:26:47 --> 00:26:48 what they say
00:26:48 --> 00:26:49 they are God's truth
00:26:49 --> 00:26:50 and they are worth
00:26:50 --> 00:26:50 hearing
00:26:50 --> 00:26:53 I said to the church
00:26:53 --> 00:26:54 family this morning
00:26:54 --> 00:26:55 one of the reasons
00:26:55 --> 00:26:56 I really don't like
00:26:56 --> 00:26:57 reading them regularly
00:26:57 --> 00:26:59 in the communion service
00:26:59 --> 00:26:59 is because
00:26:59 --> 00:27:01 thou shalt not
00:27:01 --> 00:27:02 commit adultery
00:27:02 --> 00:27:04 oh tick
00:27:04 --> 00:27:05 I haven't done that
00:27:05 --> 00:27:08 thou shalt not
00:27:08 --> 00:27:09 murder
00:27:09 --> 00:27:10 well
00:27:10 --> 00:27:11 certainly never
00:27:11 --> 00:27:12 done that
00:27:12 --> 00:27:17 thou shalt not
00:27:17 --> 00:27:17 steal
00:27:17 --> 00:27:18 oh
00:27:18 --> 00:27:19 no
00:27:19 --> 00:27:20 well back in
00:27:20 --> 00:27:20 second class
00:27:20 --> 00:27:21 I might have
00:27:21 --> 00:27:22 taken a friend's
00:27:22 --> 00:27:22 rubber
00:27:22 --> 00:27:22 no I haven't
00:27:22 --> 00:27:23 done anything
00:27:23 --> 00:27:23 much like that
00:27:23 --> 00:27:24 for a while
00:27:24 --> 00:27:26 and so what happens
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 as we do that
00:27:26 --> 00:27:28 we look at God's word
00:27:28 --> 00:27:29 and we go
00:27:29 --> 00:27:30 tick
00:27:30 --> 00:27:31 tick
00:27:31 --> 00:27:32 tick
00:27:32 --> 00:27:35 and what we do
00:27:35 --> 00:27:36 is we glory
00:27:36 --> 00:27:37 in ourselves
00:27:37 --> 00:27:38 at that moment
00:27:38 --> 00:27:41 and it's almost
00:27:41 --> 00:27:41 like
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 look at me
00:27:42 --> 00:27:44 look at how
00:27:44 --> 00:27:45 I measure up
00:27:45 --> 00:27:47 against God's law
00:27:47 --> 00:27:51 and we steal
00:27:51 --> 00:27:52 God's glory
00:27:52 --> 00:27:55 and I think
00:27:55 --> 00:27:56 it's why
00:27:56 --> 00:27:56 Jesus in the
00:27:56 --> 00:27:57 Sermon on the
00:27:57 --> 00:27:57 Mount
00:27:57 --> 00:27:58 turned some
00:27:58 --> 00:27:58 of these
00:27:58 --> 00:27:59 things on
00:27:59 --> 00:27:59 their head
00:27:59 --> 00:28:00 to help
00:28:00 --> 00:28:00 people to
00:28:00 --> 00:28:01 think about
00:28:01 --> 00:28:01 what really
00:28:01 --> 00:28:02 mattered
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 and what
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 they really
00:28:02 --> 00:28:03 mean
00:28:03 --> 00:28:05 so you guys
00:28:05 --> 00:28:06 say that you
00:28:06 --> 00:28:06 have never
00:28:06 --> 00:28:07 committed adultery
00:28:07 --> 00:28:09 said Jesus
00:28:09 --> 00:28:10 I want to say
00:28:10 --> 00:28:11 to you that
00:28:11 --> 00:28:12 if you've even
00:28:12 --> 00:28:13 looked at a woman
00:28:13 --> 00:28:13 lustfully
00:28:13 --> 00:28:15 you've committed
00:28:15 --> 00:28:16 adultery in your
00:28:16 --> 00:28:16 heart
00:28:16 --> 00:28:19 and to all of you
00:28:19 --> 00:28:20 you say you've
00:28:20 --> 00:28:20 never murdered
00:28:20 --> 00:28:22 if you have even
00:28:22 --> 00:28:23 hated another
00:28:23 --> 00:28:24 person in your
00:28:24 --> 00:28:24 heart
00:28:24 --> 00:28:26 then you've done
00:28:26 --> 00:28:27 even worse than
00:28:27 --> 00:28:27 murder
00:28:27 --> 00:28:34 men's breakfast
00:28:34 --> 00:28:35 yesterday morning
00:28:35 --> 00:28:36 was a really good
00:28:36 --> 00:28:37 time for a number
00:28:37 --> 00:28:38 of reasons
00:28:38 --> 00:28:40 and I went away
00:28:40 --> 00:28:40 there are a few
00:28:40 --> 00:28:41 things I was thinking
00:28:41 --> 00:28:41 about that I was
00:28:41 --> 00:28:42 reflecting on
00:28:42 --> 00:28:43 but I was very
00:28:43 --> 00:28:44 moved later in
00:28:44 --> 00:28:44 the day as I
00:28:44 --> 00:28:45 thought about
00:28:45 --> 00:28:45 what happened
00:28:45 --> 00:28:46 because the
00:28:46 --> 00:28:47 thing that
00:28:47 --> 00:28:48 moved me most
00:28:48 --> 00:28:49 is that Ian
00:28:49 --> 00:28:50 who's on the
00:28:50 --> 00:28:50 drums often
00:28:50 --> 00:28:52 he gave his
00:28:52 --> 00:28:53 testimony
00:28:53 --> 00:28:53 he gave a bit
00:28:53 --> 00:28:54 of a talk
00:28:54 --> 00:28:56 and he said
00:28:56 --> 00:28:56 how much he
00:28:56 --> 00:28:57 loves Vander
00:28:57 --> 00:28:58 a couple of
00:28:58 --> 00:28:59 times through
00:28:59 --> 00:28:59 the morning
00:28:59 --> 00:29:01 and I went
00:29:01 --> 00:29:02 away and
00:29:02 --> 00:29:03 thought wasn't
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 that a wonderful
00:29:04 --> 00:29:05 thing to hear
00:29:05 --> 00:29:08 one brother in
00:29:08 --> 00:29:08 Christ saying
00:29:08 --> 00:29:09 how much he
00:29:09 --> 00:29:10 loved another
00:29:10 --> 00:29:10 brother in
00:29:10 --> 00:29:11 Christ
00:29:11 --> 00:29:13 Christ and
00:29:13 --> 00:29:14 I thought
00:29:14 --> 00:29:15 wouldn't that
00:29:15 --> 00:29:16 be a wonderful
00:29:16 --> 00:29:17 thing to be
00:29:17 --> 00:29:18 being repeated
00:29:18 --> 00:29:19 over and over
00:29:19 --> 00:29:20 and over again
00:29:20 --> 00:29:21 in our church
00:29:21 --> 00:29:23 family where we
00:29:23 --> 00:29:24 speak of one
00:29:24 --> 00:29:26 another as I
00:29:26 --> 00:29:27 really love you
00:29:27 --> 00:29:29 I really love
00:29:29 --> 00:29:30 that person in
00:29:30 --> 00:29:32 Christ I really
00:29:32 --> 00:29:33 love them for the
00:29:33 --> 00:29:33 way that they
00:29:33 --> 00:29:34 encourage me and
00:29:34 --> 00:29:35 know me and build
00:29:35 --> 00:29:38 me up and I
00:29:38 --> 00:29:39 took that a step
00:29:39 --> 00:29:39 further because I'm
00:29:39 --> 00:29:40 saying to you
00:29:40 --> 00:29:43 I need people
00:29:43 --> 00:29:44 that I can go
00:29:44 --> 00:29:45 to and say
00:29:45 --> 00:29:47 brother I'm
00:29:47 --> 00:29:48 struggling
00:29:48 --> 00:29:51 brother there's
00:29:51 --> 00:29:52 all this stuff
00:29:52 --> 00:29:52 that's going on
00:29:52 --> 00:29:53 in my life and
00:29:53 --> 00:29:55 I need to tell
00:29:55 --> 00:29:56 you about it
00:29:56 --> 00:29:57 because I need
00:29:57 --> 00:29:58 you to remind
00:29:58 --> 00:29:58 me from the
00:29:58 --> 00:29:59 scriptures one
00:29:59 --> 00:30:00 what I already
00:30:00 --> 00:30:02 know that if
00:30:02 --> 00:30:03 it's sin to be
00:30:03 --> 00:30:03 able to say
00:30:03 --> 00:30:04 look brother I
00:30:04 --> 00:30:05 know it's a sin
00:30:05 --> 00:30:05 but I want to
00:30:05 --> 00:30:07 remind you of
00:30:07 --> 00:30:08 the grace and
00:30:08 --> 00:30:09 mercy and
00:30:09 --> 00:30:09 kindness of
00:30:09 --> 00:30:10 Christ in
00:30:10 --> 00:30:11 bringing forgiveness
00:30:11 --> 00:30:11 for that sin
00:30:11 --> 00:30:13 and I want to
00:30:13 --> 00:30:14 encourage you to
00:30:14 --> 00:30:15 cling to Christ
00:30:15 --> 00:30:17 and I will pray
00:30:17 --> 00:30:18 for you and I
00:30:18 --> 00:30:19 will ask you how
00:30:19 --> 00:30:20 you're going
00:30:20 --> 00:30:22 and what do we
00:30:22 --> 00:30:23 need for that to
00:30:23 --> 00:30:25 happen we need
00:30:25 --> 00:30:26 trusting relationships
00:30:26 --> 00:30:28 don't we we
00:30:28 --> 00:30:30 also need people
00:30:30 --> 00:30:31 who don't feel
00:30:31 --> 00:30:32 like they need to
00:30:32 --> 00:30:35 pretend where
00:30:35 --> 00:30:35 we're able to
00:30:35 --> 00:30:36 come and say I
00:30:36 --> 00:30:37 am broken and
00:30:37 --> 00:30:38 I need a
00:30:38 --> 00:30:39 saviour and
00:30:39 --> 00:30:40 yes I struggle
00:30:40 --> 00:30:41 here and I
00:30:41 --> 00:30:42 struggle here
00:30:42 --> 00:30:44 and where we
00:30:44 --> 00:30:44 don't jump on
00:30:44 --> 00:30:45 one another in
00:30:45 --> 00:30:46 guilt and
00:30:46 --> 00:30:47 judgement but
00:30:47 --> 00:30:48 where we work to
00:30:48 --> 00:30:49 build one another
00:30:49 --> 00:30:50 up in Christ
00:30:50 --> 00:30:51 even in the
00:30:51 --> 00:30:53 face of our
00:30:53 --> 00:30:53 sin
00:30:53 --> 00:30:58 I think it's
00:30:58 --> 00:30:58 true worship
00:30:58 --> 00:30:59 this is a
00:30:59 --> 00:31:00 wonderful passage
00:31:00 --> 00:31:00 what goes on
00:31:00 --> 00:31:03 here the whole
00:31:03 --> 00:31:04 creation that we
00:31:04 --> 00:31:05 live in declares
00:31:05 --> 00:31:06 the glory of God
00:31:06 --> 00:31:09 the glory of God
00:31:09 --> 00:31:10 has been revealed
00:31:10 --> 00:31:11 to us in his
00:31:11 --> 00:31:11 word and and
00:31:11 --> 00:31:13 lastly through his
00:31:13 --> 00:31:13 son the Lord
00:31:13 --> 00:31:14 Jesus Christ
00:31:14 --> 00:31:17 and it is true
00:31:17 --> 00:31:18 worship to
00:31:18 --> 00:31:19 acknowledge God
00:31:19 --> 00:31:20 for who he is
00:31:20 --> 00:31:22 but it also means
00:31:22 --> 00:31:23 knowing ourselves
00:31:23 --> 00:31:24 for who we are
00:31:24 --> 00:31:27 true worship is
00:31:27 --> 00:31:28 being brought face
00:31:28 --> 00:31:29 to face with God
00:31:29 --> 00:31:31 acknowledging our
00:31:31 --> 00:31:32 sinfulness
00:31:32 --> 00:31:34 delighting in his
00:31:34 --> 00:31:36 glory and
00:31:36 --> 00:31:37 rejoicing in the
00:31:37 --> 00:31:39 safety and the
00:31:39 --> 00:31:40 undeserved forgiveness
00:31:40 --> 00:31:41 that we find in
00:31:41 --> 00:31:42 Christ who can
00:31:42 --> 00:31:44 forgive even our
00:31:44 --> 00:31:45 hidden sin
00:31:45 --> 00:31:47 amen
00:31:47 --> 00:31:47 amen
00:31:47 --> 00:31:50 for our
00:31:50 --> 00:31:57 forms crochets
00:31:57 --> 00:31:58 to face with
00:31:58 --> 00:32:00 him
00:32:00 --> 00:32:01 Micłem
00:32:01 --> 00:32:01 with
