The Bible is Enough

00:00:13 --> 00:00:21 growing confidence in the Bible in order that we might grow in confidence in the God who is the God of the Bible.
00:00:21 --> 00:00:29 That's where we're up to right now. I'm going to pray that God might speak this morning, even as I struggle to.
00:00:30 --> 00:00:39 Gracious God, we are grateful that we have this enormous privilege because of the shoulders that we stand on this morning
00:00:39 --> 00:00:49 of those who have preserved for us your word so that it might in fact be in our laps in languages that we can understand.
00:00:50 --> 00:00:52 Primarily, Lord, so that we might know you.
00:00:52 --> 00:01:03 And so even as we engage with it now and even in my weakness, I pray that you would be clear and you would be strong
00:01:03 --> 00:01:11 and that your word would come across as authoritative to us and that the result would be a greater and greater glimpse
00:01:11 --> 00:01:18 of your magnificence and your glory and also a glimpse of our deep, deep need for you.
00:01:18 --> 00:01:20 And we ask it for your sake. Amen.
00:01:20 --> 00:01:32 So have you ever wondered if the Bible is really able to help you in your deepest problems?
00:01:32 --> 00:01:44 Have you struggled to know what to do with your life and wish that you had had, you know, some special word from God,
00:01:45 --> 00:01:50 clear word from God, special communication to tell you this is what you should do here?
00:01:51 --> 00:01:57 Have you thought to yourself that as you look at the Bible and particularly the Bible's teaching on things like sexuality,
00:01:57 --> 00:02:04 it kind of needs to be updated, there needs to be a revised version for the new modern era?
00:02:05 --> 00:02:11 Have you ever wished for a more direct and even a more personal revelation
00:02:11 --> 00:02:19 than what you might get from slowly and consistently reading the Bible?
00:02:19 --> 00:02:23 Have you ever secretly wanted to add something to the Bible?
00:02:23 --> 00:02:31 You've read something in there and you go, hang on a bit, I wish Paul had just clarified what he meant by that.
00:02:32 --> 00:02:34 A little bit of extra information on that issue.
00:02:35 --> 00:02:44 Have you ever secretly wanted to add something to the Bible just to make it in fact safer for your friends and family to read?
00:02:45 --> 00:02:51 Have you ever wanted to take something away from the Bible so it doesn't offend your family and your friends?
00:02:53 --> 00:03:03 If you have answered yes to any of those questions, and if you haven't, let me tell you, you will at some point in your life,
00:03:04 --> 00:03:09 then you are struggling with what is known as the sufficiency of Scripture.
00:03:09 --> 00:03:18 It's not unusual for Christians to know something, if you like, about the attributes of God,
00:03:18 --> 00:03:20 you know, his justice, his mercy, so on and so forth.
00:03:21 --> 00:03:28 On the other hand, what is not as commonly known amongst Christians are what are known as the attributes of Scripture,
00:03:29 --> 00:03:30 the attributes of the Bible.
00:03:31 --> 00:03:38 Protestant theologians generally highlight four essential characteristics of the Bible.
00:03:38 --> 00:03:41 attributes of the Bible.
00:03:42 --> 00:03:43 They are doctrines of the Bible.
00:03:44 --> 00:03:50 The sufficiency of Scripture, the sufficiency, the clarity, the authority, and the necessity of Scripture.
00:03:50 --> 00:03:51 Four of them.
00:03:51 --> 00:03:54 Sufficiency, clarity, authority, and necessity.
00:03:54 --> 00:03:59 Another way to put that is that God's Word is final.
00:04:00 --> 00:04:01 God's Word is understandable.
00:04:02 --> 00:04:04 God's Word is necessary.
00:04:05 --> 00:04:09 And God's Word is enough, which is our topic for today.
00:04:09 --> 00:04:12 I'm starting at kind of the end and working our way back over the coming weeks.
00:04:13 --> 00:04:14 That's our topic today.
00:04:14 --> 00:04:19 And I've got three points in terms of our topic today in terms of the Bible is enough,
00:04:19 --> 00:04:21 the Bible's enough because Jesus is enough,
00:04:22 --> 00:04:26 and then finally we're going to land on how Jesus and the Bible together are enough.
00:04:27 --> 00:04:30 So starting of all the Bible is enough.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:37 The sufficiency of Scripture means the Bible is clear enough to make us responsible
00:04:37 --> 00:04:42 for carrying out our present responsibilities to our Creator.
00:04:43 --> 00:04:49 That is, this particular teaching is an ethical teaching.
00:04:49 --> 00:05:00 No one can say that God has not revealed himself enough in order to be saved or to live a life that is pleasing to him.
00:05:02 --> 00:05:08 We don't need to add to it in any way in order to meet the challenges of the modern world,
00:05:08 --> 00:05:17 or in fact to take away from it so that it aligns better with the priorities of the modern world.
00:05:17 --> 00:05:21 God's Word is perfect and it is complete,
00:05:22 --> 00:05:28 giving us all that we need to know about God, about Jesus, about salvation,
00:05:28 --> 00:05:31 and living a life that's aligned to God's purposes.
00:05:32 --> 00:05:36 If you want to specifically know what God's will is for your life,
00:05:37 --> 00:05:39 it is already in the Scriptures.
00:05:39 --> 00:05:48 And yet, this is the one attribute of all four,
00:05:48 --> 00:05:50 the one attribute of the Bible,
00:05:50 --> 00:05:55 that Bible-believing Christians are likely to forget the first.
00:05:56 --> 00:05:58 It's the first one they're going to forget.
00:05:59 --> 00:06:02 The sufficiency of the Bible is the one attribute
00:06:02 --> 00:06:10 that is so quickly doubted or undermined by the average churchgoer.
00:06:12 --> 00:06:17 It is possible, in fact, to say that all the right things about the Bible,
00:06:18 --> 00:06:21 it's possible to read it regularly,
00:06:21 --> 00:06:24 but when life gets tough,
00:06:24 --> 00:06:26 when life gets confusing,
00:06:27 --> 00:06:30 when life gets a little ho-hum,
00:06:30 --> 00:06:31 a little boring,
00:06:32 --> 00:06:34 we look for new words,
00:06:35 --> 00:06:35 new revelation,
00:06:36 --> 00:06:38 new experiences to bring us closer to God
00:06:38 --> 00:06:41 or to get a sense that God loves me.
00:06:42 --> 00:06:45 We may not feel excited at all
00:06:45 --> 00:06:47 by the Bible's description of heaven,
00:06:47 --> 00:06:51 but we are mesmeralized by the latest book
00:06:51 --> 00:06:53 written by someone who has died
00:06:53 --> 00:06:55 and said that they went there and have come back again
00:06:55 --> 00:06:56 and told us about it.
00:06:58 --> 00:06:59 We are captivated by that,
00:07:00 --> 00:07:01 but not the Bible's description,
00:07:02 --> 00:07:04 God himself and what he says about heaven.
00:07:08 --> 00:07:11 We soak up stories of those who declare
00:07:11 --> 00:07:13 that they've received a special revelation from God,
00:07:14 --> 00:07:16 those who claim personal communication with God,
00:07:16 --> 00:07:21 those who attest to regular inward promptings.
00:07:23 --> 00:07:24 And we sit there and we go,
00:07:24 --> 00:07:25 if only I could have more of that.
00:07:26 --> 00:07:28 If only I could have that.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:32 Something a little more than the Bible.
00:07:32 --> 00:07:37 Then I would know that God really loves me.
00:07:39 --> 00:07:41 But here's the issue.
00:07:42 --> 00:07:44 And we're going to unpack this for the rest of this message.
00:07:44 --> 00:07:48 The finality of Christ's redemption for us
00:07:48 --> 00:07:51 on the cross for our sin
00:07:51 --> 00:07:55 is intimately tied
00:07:55 --> 00:07:59 to the finality of God's revelation to us.
00:08:02 --> 00:08:03 Intimately tied.
00:08:03 --> 00:08:08 Which leads me to my second point,
00:08:08 --> 00:08:09 that Jesus is enough.
00:08:10 --> 00:08:11 The big idea,
00:08:11 --> 00:08:13 and we're going to turn to Hebrews chapter 1 here,
00:08:13 --> 00:08:15 so grab up Hebrews chapter 1 in your Bibles.
00:08:16 --> 00:08:19 The big idea in the first verses of Hebrews
00:08:19 --> 00:08:22 is in fact the big idea of the entire book of Hebrews.
00:08:23 --> 00:08:24 It's an introduction,
00:08:24 --> 00:08:26 which then gets, if you like,
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 expanded upon through the rest of Hebrews.
00:08:30 --> 00:08:35 And the big idea is that God has spoken by his son,
00:08:36 --> 00:08:39 and his son is superior to all persons,
00:08:40 --> 00:08:42 superior to all heavenly beings,
00:08:42 --> 00:08:44 superior to all institutions,
00:08:44 --> 00:08:45 superior to all rituals,
00:08:46 --> 00:08:48 and any other means of revelation and redemption.
00:08:49 --> 00:08:52 The first verses are here.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:54 In the first two verses, we have contrasts.
00:08:54 --> 00:08:57 In the past, God spoke to our ancestors
00:08:57 --> 00:08:58 through the prophets at various times
00:08:58 --> 00:08:59 and in various ways,
00:09:00 --> 00:09:01 but in these last days,
00:09:01 --> 00:09:02 he has spoken to us by his son,
00:09:03 --> 00:09:05 whom he appointed heir of all things,
00:09:05 --> 00:09:08 and through whom he also made the universe.
00:09:08 --> 00:09:09 So those two verses,
00:09:10 --> 00:09:11 we have four contrasts.
00:09:12 --> 00:09:13 We have contrasts in eras,
00:09:14 --> 00:09:15 recipients, agents,
00:09:15 --> 00:09:16 and the way of God's revelation.
00:09:17 --> 00:09:18 And all four contrasts
00:09:18 --> 00:09:22 are meant to lead us to the same conclusion.
00:09:22 --> 00:09:27 And that conclusion is decisively spelled out
00:09:27 --> 00:09:29 in verses two to four.
00:09:30 --> 00:09:33 And that conclusion is that Jesus Christ
00:09:33 --> 00:09:37 is the superior and the final agent
00:09:37 --> 00:09:39 of God's redemption and revelation.
00:09:42 --> 00:09:46 The writer of Hebrews draws on Psalm 2 and Psalm 110
00:09:46 --> 00:09:51 and makes seven affirmations to that end
00:09:51 --> 00:09:53 in verses two to four.
00:09:54 --> 00:09:56 The son is the heir of all things,
00:09:56 --> 00:09:58 the creator of all things.
00:09:58 --> 00:10:00 He's the sustainer of all things.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:02 The son is the revelation of God.
00:10:02 --> 00:10:04 The son made purification for our sins.
00:10:05 --> 00:10:05 It says there,
00:10:05 --> 00:10:08 the son sat down.
00:10:10 --> 00:10:13 And let me just slow down on that one a little bit
00:10:13 --> 00:10:13 because it's like,
00:10:13 --> 00:10:16 what do you mean by the son sat down?
00:10:17 --> 00:10:20 Just as a parent might sit down
00:10:20 --> 00:10:21 at the end of the evening
00:10:21 --> 00:10:23 because the kids are in bed,
00:10:23 --> 00:10:24 the dishwasher's on.
00:10:27 --> 00:10:28 And you go,
00:10:28 --> 00:10:30 today my work is done.
00:10:32 --> 00:10:34 That's what it means he sat down.
00:10:34 --> 00:10:35 The work is done.
00:10:35 --> 00:10:37 He's enthroned on high.
00:10:38 --> 00:10:39 The work of revelation
00:10:39 --> 00:10:40 and the work of redemption
00:10:40 --> 00:10:41 is finalized and complete.
00:10:41 --> 00:10:42 He sat down.
00:10:42 --> 00:10:45 The task for sacrifice for sin
00:10:45 --> 00:10:47 was complete in his death on the cross.
00:10:47 --> 00:10:49 He is permanently enthroned.
00:10:51 --> 00:10:52 And the seventh is in verse four.
00:10:52 --> 00:10:55 The son therefore has become much superior
00:10:55 --> 00:10:56 to the angels.
00:10:56 --> 00:10:58 The whole theme of Hebrews
00:10:58 --> 00:11:01 is that Jesus Christ
00:11:01 --> 00:11:03 is the superior
00:11:03 --> 00:11:05 and final agent
00:11:05 --> 00:11:07 of God's redemption and revelation.
00:11:07 --> 00:11:09 Chapters one and two,
00:11:09 --> 00:11:11 he's superior to the angels.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:11 Chapter three,
00:11:12 --> 00:11:12 superior to Moses.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:14 Chapter four,
00:11:14 --> 00:11:14 sorry,
00:11:15 --> 00:11:16 chapters three and four,
00:11:16 --> 00:11:17 superior to Joshua.
00:11:17 --> 00:11:18 Chapter five,
00:11:18 --> 00:11:19 superior to Abraham.
00:11:19 --> 00:11:20 Chapter six,
00:11:21 --> 00:11:21 sorry,
00:11:21 --> 00:11:21 Aaron.
00:11:22 --> 00:11:23 Chapter six is Abraham.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:24 Chapter seven is Melchizedek.
00:11:25 --> 00:11:26 Chapter eight is the old covenant.
00:11:26 --> 00:11:28 Chapter nine is the temple,
00:11:28 --> 00:11:29 the tabernacle.
00:11:29 --> 00:11:32 Jesus is superior to the high priest
00:11:32 --> 00:11:33 in chapter 10.
00:11:33 --> 00:11:36 He is the,
00:11:36 --> 00:11:38 he's superior to all the treasures
00:11:38 --> 00:11:40 of this world in chapter 11.
00:11:41 --> 00:11:43 He is superior to God's revelation
00:11:43 --> 00:11:44 of the Old Testament law
00:11:44 --> 00:11:47 and Mount Sinai in chapter 12
00:11:47 --> 00:11:48 as the gathering point of God's people.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:51 And he is superior to any city
00:11:51 --> 00:11:53 and any place in this world
00:11:53 --> 00:11:54 that we might call home
00:11:54 --> 00:11:55 in chapter 13.
00:11:57 --> 00:11:59 Every single chapter.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:01 is about the superiority
00:12:01 --> 00:12:03 of Jesus Christ
00:12:03 --> 00:12:04 as the final revelation
00:12:04 --> 00:12:05 of redemption
00:12:05 --> 00:12:07 and revelation of God.
00:12:09 --> 00:12:12 He surpasses all others
00:12:12 --> 00:12:14 because in him
00:12:14 --> 00:12:16 we have the fullness
00:12:16 --> 00:12:17 and the finality
00:12:17 --> 00:12:18 of God's redemption
00:12:18 --> 00:12:19 and revelation.
00:12:20 --> 00:12:21 Jesus is enough
00:12:21 --> 00:12:23 because he is superior
00:12:23 --> 00:12:24 and the final agent
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 of God's redemption
00:12:25 --> 00:12:27 and revelation.
00:12:29 --> 00:12:30 And so the question
00:12:30 --> 00:12:32 you might now have
00:12:32 --> 00:12:34 is what has that got to do
00:12:34 --> 00:12:35 with the sufficiency
00:12:35 --> 00:12:36 of scripture?
00:12:37 --> 00:12:38 And I'm so glad
00:12:38 --> 00:12:39 you asked that question.
00:12:39 --> 00:12:40 I'm so glad
00:12:40 --> 00:12:41 I've got a third point.
00:12:42 --> 00:12:43 Prior, you know,
00:12:43 --> 00:12:44 prepared and ready
00:12:44 --> 00:12:44 for this point.
00:12:46 --> 00:12:48 Jesus with the Bible
00:12:48 --> 00:12:49 are enough.
00:12:50 --> 00:12:52 Or Jesus and the Bible
00:12:52 --> 00:12:54 are enough.
00:12:54 --> 00:12:57 A moment ago,
00:12:57 --> 00:12:58 I said,
00:12:58 --> 00:12:59 Jesus Christ
00:12:59 --> 00:13:00 surpasses all others
00:13:00 --> 00:13:01 because in him
00:13:01 --> 00:13:03 we have the fullness
00:13:03 --> 00:13:04 and the finality
00:13:04 --> 00:13:06 of God's redemption
00:13:06 --> 00:13:07 and revelation.
00:13:08 --> 00:13:09 In many cases,
00:13:10 --> 00:13:11 Christians understand
00:13:11 --> 00:13:13 the concept of fullness.
00:13:14 --> 00:13:16 Jesus is the fulfiller
00:13:16 --> 00:13:18 of all the Old Testament
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 prophecies and promises.
00:13:19 --> 00:13:22 He's the fulfiller
00:13:22 --> 00:13:23 of the law.
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 We understand
00:13:24 --> 00:13:24 that concept.
00:13:25 --> 00:13:27 Everything in the Old Testament
00:13:27 --> 00:13:28 is pointing to Jesus.
00:13:29 --> 00:13:30 He has completed
00:13:30 --> 00:13:31 all of its intention
00:13:31 --> 00:13:31 and purpose.
00:13:32 --> 00:13:33 The bit that we're often
00:13:33 --> 00:13:35 not so clear on
00:13:35 --> 00:13:36 is the bit
00:13:36 --> 00:13:37 where I said finality.
00:13:38 --> 00:13:39 The finality
00:13:39 --> 00:13:40 of Jesus' work.
00:13:41 --> 00:13:42 And we attach the idea
00:13:42 --> 00:13:43 of the finality
00:13:43 --> 00:13:44 of Jesus' work,
00:13:44 --> 00:13:45 we understand that
00:13:45 --> 00:13:46 in terms of
00:13:46 --> 00:13:48 redemption.
00:13:49 --> 00:13:51 But we don't connect
00:13:51 --> 00:13:52 it to revelation often.
00:13:53 --> 00:13:54 We struggle with
00:13:54 --> 00:13:54 the sufficiency
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 of scripture.
00:13:57 --> 00:13:58 The finality
00:13:58 --> 00:13:59 of his work
00:13:59 --> 00:14:00 was that he once
00:14:00 --> 00:14:00 for all
00:14:00 --> 00:14:02 paid for all sin.
00:14:03 --> 00:14:04 He came to earth,
00:14:04 --> 00:14:06 he lived amongst us,
00:14:06 --> 00:14:07 he died on a Roman cross
00:14:07 --> 00:14:09 and cried out
00:14:09 --> 00:14:10 in his dying moments,
00:14:11 --> 00:14:13 it is finished.
00:14:13 --> 00:14:19 We're not waiting
00:14:19 --> 00:14:21 for another king
00:14:21 --> 00:14:22 to rule over us
00:14:22 --> 00:14:24 or another prophet
00:14:24 --> 00:14:24 to give us
00:14:24 --> 00:14:25 some more information
00:14:25 --> 00:14:28 or a further priest
00:14:28 --> 00:14:29 to deal with our sin.
00:14:29 --> 00:14:31 The work of redemption
00:14:31 --> 00:14:32 is complete.
00:14:36 --> 00:14:37 And what the book
00:14:37 --> 00:14:38 of Hebrews says,
00:14:38 --> 00:14:38 in fact,
00:14:39 --> 00:14:39 what I declare
00:14:39 --> 00:14:41 is the New Testament
00:14:41 --> 00:14:42 and the Old Testament
00:14:42 --> 00:14:43 as well,
00:14:43 --> 00:14:45 you cannot separate
00:14:45 --> 00:14:46 redemption
00:14:46 --> 00:14:47 from revelation.
00:14:49 --> 00:14:50 They're inseparable.
00:14:53 --> 00:14:55 Both are finished
00:14:55 --> 00:14:56 and finally fulfilled
00:14:56 --> 00:14:57 in Jesus.
00:14:59 --> 00:15:00 While the written
00:15:00 --> 00:15:01 word of God,
00:15:01 --> 00:15:01 the Bible,
00:15:01 --> 00:15:02 which we have
00:15:02 --> 00:15:02 in front of us,
00:15:03 --> 00:15:04 and the word of God
00:15:04 --> 00:15:05 made flesh,
00:15:05 --> 00:15:06 the incarnate word
00:15:06 --> 00:15:06 of God,
00:15:06 --> 00:15:07 Jesus Christ,
00:15:07 --> 00:15:08 are distinct,
00:15:10 --> 00:15:10 they are also
00:15:10 --> 00:15:11 inseparable.
00:15:12 --> 00:15:17 every single act
00:15:17 --> 00:15:18 of redemption
00:15:18 --> 00:15:19 in the Bible,
00:15:20 --> 00:15:21 from the exodus
00:15:21 --> 00:15:22 out of Egypt
00:15:22 --> 00:15:24 to the return
00:15:24 --> 00:15:24 from exile
00:15:24 --> 00:15:25 in Babylon
00:15:25 --> 00:15:27 to the cross
00:15:27 --> 00:15:28 itself
00:15:28 --> 00:15:30 is an act
00:15:30 --> 00:15:31 of revelation,
00:15:31 --> 00:15:34 not just an act
00:15:34 --> 00:15:35 of redemption.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:37 They tell us
00:15:37 --> 00:15:37 something about
00:15:37 --> 00:15:38 the nature of sin,
00:15:39 --> 00:15:40 the way of salvation,
00:15:40 --> 00:15:40 and the character
00:15:40 --> 00:15:41 of God.
00:15:41 --> 00:15:42 Likewise,
00:15:43 --> 00:15:43 the point of
00:15:43 --> 00:15:46 all revelation
00:15:46 --> 00:15:48 is to redeem.
00:15:50 --> 00:15:51 That's the point
00:15:51 --> 00:15:52 of it,
00:15:52 --> 00:15:53 to redeem
00:15:53 --> 00:15:54 sinful people
00:15:54 --> 00:15:55 to God.
00:15:55 --> 00:15:56 All the words
00:15:56 --> 00:15:57 of the prophets,
00:15:58 --> 00:15:59 all the words
00:15:59 --> 00:15:59 of the law,
00:15:59 --> 00:16:00 all the words
00:16:00 --> 00:16:01 of the apostles
00:16:01 --> 00:16:02 are not to make
00:16:02 --> 00:16:03 us smart,
00:16:03 --> 00:16:06 but to get
00:16:06 --> 00:16:07 us saved
00:16:07 --> 00:16:13 and into
00:16:13 --> 00:16:14 the likeness
00:16:14 --> 00:16:15 of Jesus
00:16:15 --> 00:16:16 in his character
00:16:16 --> 00:16:17 and his priority.
00:16:17 --> 00:16:18 In other words,
00:16:20 --> 00:16:20 redemption
00:16:20 --> 00:16:21 reveals
00:16:21 --> 00:16:23 and revelation
00:16:23 --> 00:16:23 redeems.
00:16:25 --> 00:16:25 They're
00:16:25 --> 00:16:25 inseparable.
00:16:25 --> 00:16:30 Jesus
00:16:30 --> 00:16:31 is God's
00:16:31 --> 00:16:31 full
00:16:31 --> 00:16:32 and final
00:16:32 --> 00:16:33 act
00:16:33 --> 00:16:33 of redemption
00:16:33 --> 00:16:35 and God's
00:16:35 --> 00:16:36 full
00:16:36 --> 00:16:36 and final
00:16:36 --> 00:16:37 revelation
00:16:37 --> 00:16:38 of himself.
00:16:38 --> 00:16:39 As John
00:16:39 --> 00:16:39 Frame has
00:16:39 --> 00:16:40 written,
00:16:41 --> 00:16:41 nothing can
00:16:41 --> 00:16:41 be added
00:16:41 --> 00:16:42 to his
00:16:42 --> 00:16:43 redemptive
00:16:43 --> 00:16:44 work and
00:16:44 --> 00:16:44 nothing can
00:16:44 --> 00:16:44 be added
00:16:44 --> 00:16:45 to his
00:16:45 --> 00:16:45 revelation
00:16:45 --> 00:16:46 of that
00:16:46 --> 00:16:46 redemptive
00:16:46 --> 00:16:47 work.
00:16:51 --> 00:16:51 Therefore,
00:16:52 --> 00:16:52 and I think
00:16:52 --> 00:16:53 this is more

00:27:40 --> 00:27:40 and I hope
00:27:40 --> 00:27:40 they're going
00:27:40 --> 00:27:41 to be there
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 on this
00:27:42 --> 00:27:44 Sunday, or
00:27:44 --> 00:27:45 that they
00:27:45 --> 00:27:45 listen to
00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 this, or
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 somehow get
00:27:47 --> 00:27:47 it in their
00:27:47 --> 00:27:49 lap, all of
00:27:49 --> 00:27:49 a sudden the
00:27:49 --> 00:27:50 scalpel fell.

00:27:55 --> 00:27:55 wasn't about

00:28:00 --> 00:28:02 quite a deep
00:28:02 --> 00:28:02 way.

00:28:04 --> 00:28:05 doing the
00:28:05 --> 00:28:06 very thing
00:28:06 --> 00:28:07 to them
00:28:07 --> 00:28:09 that I was
00:28:09 --> 00:28:09 considering they
00:28:09 --> 00:28:10 were doing
00:28:10 --> 00:28:10 to me.
00:28:13 --> 00:28:15 I saw
00:28:15 --> 00:28:16 the log in
00:28:16 --> 00:28:17 my own
00:28:17 --> 00:28:19 eye through
00:28:19 --> 00:28:19 the work of
00:28:19 --> 00:28:20 the Spirit
00:28:20 --> 00:28:21 and comparison
00:28:21 --> 00:28:22 to the speck
00:28:22 --> 00:28:23 that was in
00:28:23 --> 00:28:23 theirs.

00:28:25 --> 00:28:26 repentance,
00:28:27 --> 00:28:28 it led to
00:28:28 --> 00:28:30 me contacting

00:28:31 --> 00:28:32 and apologising,
00:28:32 --> 00:28:38 and led to
00:28:38 --> 00:28:38 gratitude
00:28:38 --> 00:28:41 as I
00:28:41 --> 00:28:41 reflected on
00:28:41 --> 00:28:42 Jesus, was
00:28:42 --> 00:28:43 the one who
00:28:43 --> 00:28:44 in fact had
00:28:44 --> 00:28:44 been judged
00:28:44 --> 00:28:45 and condemned
00:28:45 --> 00:28:48 by me for
00:28:48 --> 00:28:50 me, so
00:28:50 --> 00:28:51 that there is
00:28:51 --> 00:28:52 no now, no
00:28:52 --> 00:28:52 any longer,
00:28:52 --> 00:28:53 any condemnation,
00:28:54 --> 00:28:54 no longer any
00:28:54 --> 00:28:55 judgement from
00:28:55 --> 00:28:56 God towards

00:29:07 --> 00:29:08 dynamic of a

00:29:09 --> 00:29:10 dynamic to
00:29:10 --> 00:29:11 happen in
00:29:11 --> 00:29:12 our lives,
00:29:12 --> 00:29:13 we need to
00:29:13 --> 00:29:14 accept it as
00:29:14 --> 00:29:15 the final,
00:29:16 --> 00:29:17 the full and
00:29:17 --> 00:29:18 final revelation
00:29:18 --> 00:29:19 of God,
00:29:19 --> 00:29:20 and we need to
00:29:20 --> 00:29:21 accept the bad
00:29:21 --> 00:29:22 news that God
00:29:22 --> 00:29:23 has to give
00:29:23 --> 00:29:23 us.
00:29:23 --> 00:29:24 Not just the
00:29:24 --> 00:29:24 good news,
00:29:25 --> 00:29:26 the word of
00:29:26 --> 00:29:27 God has the
00:29:27 --> 00:29:28 power to show
00:29:28 --> 00:29:28 us things that
00:29:28 --> 00:29:29 we don't want
00:29:29 --> 00:29:31 to see or
00:29:31 --> 00:29:31 accept in our
00:29:31 --> 00:29:33 lives at all.
00:29:34 --> 00:29:35 No one wants
00:29:35 --> 00:29:37 to hear how
00:29:37 --> 00:29:38 self-absorbed
00:29:38 --> 00:29:38 they are.
00:29:40 --> 00:29:41 Most of us
00:29:41 --> 00:29:41 think that we're
00:29:41 --> 00:29:41 really good
00:29:41 --> 00:29:43 people, but
00:29:43 --> 00:29:44 the Bible will
00:29:44 --> 00:29:45 wipe us flat
00:29:45 --> 00:29:46 on that point.
00:29:48 --> 00:29:48 We don't want
00:29:48 --> 00:29:49 to hear that.
00:29:51 --> 00:29:52 In fact,
00:29:52 --> 00:29:53 think about
00:29:53 --> 00:29:54 your own
00:29:54 --> 00:29:54 life.
00:29:54 --> 00:29:54 Think about
00:29:54 --> 00:29:55 my life.
00:29:55 --> 00:29:56 Any personal
00:29:56 --> 00:29:57 relationship that
