00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 There's been a fair bit of horror news lately.
00:00:03 --> 00:00:10 I think for me the tragedy of the Malaysian Airlines flights,
00:00:10 --> 00:00:13 or both flights, but certainly the one in recent times
00:00:13 --> 00:00:16 on the Flight 17, 17th of July,
00:00:17 --> 00:00:21 missile shot it out of the sky apparently.
00:00:21 --> 00:00:23 Still working that one out.
00:00:23 --> 00:00:25 298 people dead.
00:00:25 --> 00:00:26 A number of those are Australians.
00:00:26 --> 00:00:33 That sort of thing puts a sort of a shudder up your spine.
00:00:33 --> 00:00:36 Having flown a number of times in the past,
00:00:36 --> 00:00:39 I couldn't think of a worse way to die really
00:00:39 --> 00:00:42 than to be up there in the sky
00:00:42 --> 00:00:44 and all of a sudden for your life to be gone
00:00:44 --> 00:00:47 or knowing that your life's about to end.
00:00:48 --> 00:00:52 I actually witnessed a plane accident when I was 18.
00:00:52 --> 00:00:54 A plane crashed. A person was killed.
00:00:54 --> 00:00:58 And awful, awful experience to see that.
00:00:58 --> 00:01:00 And it's planted clearly on my mind.
00:01:00 --> 00:01:02 I'll never forget the image of it.
00:01:02 --> 00:01:05 But to be part of something like this
00:01:05 --> 00:01:09 and to see the number of people that were impacted by this,
00:01:11 --> 00:01:12 no one would have seen it coming.
00:01:13 --> 00:01:15 But imagine you could.
00:01:16 --> 00:01:17 Imagine you did, in fact.
00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 Imagine that on the 16th of July,
00:01:22 --> 00:01:25 you got some information on the afternoon on the 16th of July
00:01:25 --> 00:01:29 about what was going to happen the next day.
00:01:30 --> 00:01:33 And what if your wife or your son or your mother
00:01:33 --> 00:01:35 or your brother-in-law or your neighbour or your friend
00:01:35 --> 00:01:40 or some random person that you knew was going to be on that plane?
00:01:40 --> 00:01:42 Or, in fact, not even on that plane,
00:01:43 --> 00:01:46 but on any plane in the vicinity of Eastern Europe?
00:01:47 --> 00:01:51 You knew that someone was flying back from Europe to Australia on a plane
00:01:51 --> 00:01:55 and you got this information that something terrible was going to happen.
00:01:55 --> 00:01:58 Would you not do everything within your power
00:01:58 --> 00:02:02 to use the information that you've received
00:02:02 --> 00:02:06 to help people avoid the destruction that was about to come?
00:02:06 --> 00:02:07 It's pretty obvious.
00:02:08 --> 00:02:11 I would do everything in my power to make sure
00:02:11 --> 00:02:13 that people would avoid that destruction.
00:02:15 --> 00:02:17 And what the Bible tells us
00:02:17 --> 00:02:22 is that something is coming that's infinitely worse
00:02:22 --> 00:02:26 than Malaysian Airlines 17
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 and every other disaster you can think of.
00:02:29 --> 00:02:30 It's eternally worse.
00:02:31 --> 00:02:33 It will impact every human being.
00:02:34 --> 00:02:37 The Bible describes it as the judgment of God.
00:02:37 --> 00:02:40 It's a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
00:02:41 --> 00:02:42 It's judgment.
00:02:42 --> 00:02:42 It's decisive.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:43 It's final.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:44 It's eternal.
00:02:45 --> 00:02:48 And what that information is meant to do for us
00:02:48 --> 00:02:50 is meant to shape the course of our lives now.
00:02:50 --> 00:02:55 And the question I want us to have in the back of our minds
00:02:55 --> 00:02:56 or in fact in the forefront of our minds
00:02:56 --> 00:02:59 as we look into Revelation chapter 1 right now
00:02:59 --> 00:03:02 is what would it look like for God
00:03:02 --> 00:03:05 to become the dominant reality of your life?
00:03:07 --> 00:03:10 What would it be like for him, ultimate reality,
00:03:11 --> 00:03:13 to be the dominant reality in your life?
00:03:15 --> 00:03:17 What would it look like for the things in the Bible,
00:03:18 --> 00:03:20 God's revelation of himself,
00:03:20 --> 00:03:21 to be more real to us
00:03:21 --> 00:03:23 than the things on television or on the internet?
00:03:26 --> 00:03:28 You see, God has revealed himself
00:03:28 --> 00:03:31 to accomplish that very purpose,
00:03:32 --> 00:03:34 that he would become the dominant reality of our life.
00:03:34 --> 00:03:35 God reveals himself
00:03:35 --> 00:03:38 so that we would know ultimate reality.
00:03:38 --> 00:03:40 I fear, however,
00:03:40 --> 00:03:41 that because of what we,
00:03:42 --> 00:03:43 even what we read just now,
00:03:43 --> 00:03:46 was written so long ago
00:03:46 --> 00:03:48 that we've been lulled to sleep
00:03:48 --> 00:03:52 by just the ordinariness of our lives.
00:03:53 --> 00:03:54 We've been lulled to sleep
00:03:54 --> 00:03:56 because one day ticks over to another day,
00:03:56 --> 00:03:57 ticks over to another day,
00:03:57 --> 00:03:58 ticks over to another day.
00:03:59 --> 00:04:01 Our senses have been dulled by the hundredth
00:04:01 --> 00:04:04 of day after day after day.
00:04:04 --> 00:04:07 And so what we need as Christians
00:04:07 --> 00:04:09 is to consistently be coming back,
00:04:09 --> 00:04:10 looking at the scriptures,
00:04:11 --> 00:04:13 reminding ourselves of God
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 and how he sees things,
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 how he sees reality played out,
00:04:18 --> 00:04:19 not how we see things.
00:04:20 --> 00:04:23 We need to be convinced as Christians day by day
00:04:23 --> 00:04:24 in the humdrum of life
00:04:24 --> 00:04:27 that Jesus is reigning,
00:04:27 --> 00:04:30 that he is the risen king.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:32 We need to have him speak
00:04:32 --> 00:04:34 to the situations in our church.
00:04:34 --> 00:04:37 We need to know that God is right now,
00:04:37 --> 00:04:40 he is right now in this very moment
00:04:40 --> 00:04:42 on his throne.
00:04:43 --> 00:04:45 He's in control in heaven.
00:04:45 --> 00:04:47 He is worshipped by myriads
00:04:47 --> 00:04:49 upon myriads of heavenly hosts.
00:04:50 --> 00:04:52 We need to see the way that God
00:04:52 --> 00:04:56 is going to ultimately pulverize wickedness.
00:04:57 --> 00:04:59 He will obliterate those who oppose him
00:04:59 --> 00:05:01 and he is setting up his kingdom.
00:05:02 --> 00:05:05 What we need is this book of revelation.
00:05:06 --> 00:05:08 It's exactly what we need.
00:05:09 --> 00:05:12 You see, God has given us this book of revelation
00:05:12 --> 00:05:13 so that we can see him
00:05:13 --> 00:05:16 in all his glorious mercy and justice,
00:05:16 --> 00:05:20 so that we can see that if you've got Jesus,
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 you are so, so fundamentally blessed
00:05:23 --> 00:05:27 and so that we would live our lives
00:05:27 --> 00:05:28 in worship of him
00:05:28 --> 00:05:31 above everything else.
00:05:32 --> 00:05:34 That's what we've got here in front of us
00:05:34 --> 00:05:35 in this book.
00:05:36 --> 00:05:37 You see, the message of revelation
00:05:37 --> 00:05:41 was essential for these very first recipients
00:05:41 --> 00:05:43 of this letter.
00:05:44 --> 00:05:46 It's written first and foremost
00:05:46 --> 00:05:48 to Christians almost 2 years ago
00:05:48 --> 00:05:50 is living in the Roman Empire
00:05:50 --> 00:05:52 and they're facing the biggest nightmare
00:05:52 --> 00:05:53 that you can imagine.
00:05:54 --> 00:05:58 Revelation 1 verse 9 tells us
00:05:58 --> 00:06:01 that John was exiled on the island of Patmos
00:06:01 --> 00:06:03 because of the word of God
00:06:03 --> 00:06:04 and the testimony of Jesus.
00:06:04 --> 00:06:06 So John, the guy who's written this,
00:06:06 --> 00:06:07 is representing Jesus
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 and has got him into a whole heap of trouble.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:13 John's writing to the church,
00:06:13 --> 00:06:15 to the churches from exile.
00:06:15 --> 00:06:17 He's writing from the island of Patmos.
00:06:17 --> 00:06:19 Now you can go to Patmos nowadays,
00:06:19 --> 00:06:21 it's only a fairly small island,
00:06:21 --> 00:06:23 but it's got about 3 inhabitants
00:06:23 --> 00:06:26 and it's full of five-star resorts
00:06:26 --> 00:06:27 and luxury villas.
00:06:27 --> 00:06:29 In John's day, it was a prison island,
00:06:30 --> 00:06:32 so he's there smashing stones
00:06:32 --> 00:06:33 without sledgehammers.
00:06:33 --> 00:06:36 And he's there as an old man
00:06:36 --> 00:06:39 sentenced to work in the quarries
00:06:39 --> 00:06:41 because of the word of God
00:06:41 --> 00:06:42 and the testimony of Jesus.
00:06:43 --> 00:06:45 That is, what it's saying here
00:06:45 --> 00:06:47 is that Jesus was so real,
00:06:47 --> 00:06:49 so precious to John,
00:06:49 --> 00:06:51 that he would rather be exiled
00:06:51 --> 00:06:53 to a barren prison island
00:06:53 --> 00:06:55 than not represent Jesus.
00:06:55 --> 00:06:59 John is typical, I think,
00:06:59 --> 00:07:00 and what he's experienced here
00:07:00 --> 00:07:01 is typical of the hardship
00:07:01 --> 00:07:05 of many Christians were facing in his time.
00:07:06 --> 00:07:08 They were feeling the full force
00:07:08 --> 00:07:09 of the Roman Empire.
00:07:10 --> 00:07:13 According to the Roman writer Suetonius,
00:07:14 --> 00:07:16 the Roman emperor Domitian,
00:07:16 --> 00:07:17 who was the kingpin in the world
00:07:17 --> 00:07:18 at John's day,
00:07:18 --> 00:07:21 was both physically unimpressive
00:07:21 --> 00:07:24 and a moral catastrophe of a man.
00:07:25 --> 00:07:27 He had many affairs with married women
00:07:27 --> 00:07:29 and eventually stole someone else's wife
00:07:29 --> 00:07:30 to be his own.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:32 When his own brother Titus
00:07:32 --> 00:07:34 was hit with a serious illness,
00:07:34 --> 00:07:36 he ordered that he'd be left for dead.
00:07:37 --> 00:07:38 Another bloke,
00:07:38 --> 00:07:41 I think this guy was probably an actor
00:07:41 --> 00:07:43 or some kind of stand-up comedian
00:07:43 --> 00:07:44 or something like that,
00:07:45 --> 00:07:46 made some fairly harmless
00:07:46 --> 00:07:48 but humorous remarks about Domitian.
00:07:49 --> 00:07:50 Everyone thought it was funny,
00:07:50 --> 00:07:51 except Domitian,
00:07:51 --> 00:07:52 so he had him executed.
00:07:53 --> 00:07:55 He seduced his married niece,
00:07:55 --> 00:07:55 got her pregnant.
00:07:56 --> 00:07:57 She then died from the abortion
00:07:57 --> 00:07:58 that he forced her to have.
00:07:59 --> 00:08:02 This moral catastrophe of a man,
00:08:02 --> 00:08:02 that's just some of the things,
00:08:03 --> 00:08:04 I mean, it just goes on from there.
00:08:05 --> 00:08:07 He was sensitive about his baldness.
00:08:07 --> 00:08:09 He had a pot belly, spindly legs,
00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 and he demanded that the whole empire
00:08:13 --> 00:08:14 called him Lord God.
00:08:14 --> 00:08:20 And John is writing to a bunch of Christians
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 who are suffering extreme hardship
00:08:23 --> 00:08:28 because they refuse to have this man
00:08:28 --> 00:08:30 say,
00:08:31 --> 00:08:32 I am your God.
00:08:35 --> 00:08:37 They refuse to allow Domitian
00:08:37 --> 00:08:39 to be the dominant reality in their life.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:43 Now, many of you would be aware
00:08:43 --> 00:08:45 that Christians in northern Iraq right now
00:08:45 --> 00:08:48 are being severely persecuted
00:08:48 --> 00:08:51 by the militant group called
00:08:51 --> 00:08:53 the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,
00:08:53 --> 00:08:54 the ISIS group.
00:08:54 --> 00:08:57 They've issued a decree
00:08:57 --> 00:09:00 offering Christians three options,
00:09:01 --> 00:09:02 either convert to Islam,
00:09:03 --> 00:09:04 pay a special tax,
00:09:04 --> 00:09:05 or be killed.
00:09:06 --> 00:09:07 And you've probably seen it on Facebook.
00:09:07 --> 00:09:10 They've painted a symbol
00:09:10 --> 00:09:12 on the houses of Christians
00:09:12 --> 00:09:14 so that they are identified.
00:09:16 --> 00:09:17 They've painted other symbols
00:09:17 --> 00:09:19 on the houses of other religious groups
00:09:19 --> 00:09:20 they don't agree with either.
00:09:20 --> 00:09:23 And the ultimatum that was given
00:09:23 --> 00:09:24 to Christians was
00:09:24 --> 00:09:26 deadline for it was midday
00:09:26 --> 00:09:29 on the 19th of July.
00:09:29 --> 00:09:30 So choose that.
00:09:31 --> 00:09:32 That's your choice.
00:09:33 --> 00:09:34 Either convert to Islam,
00:09:36 --> 00:09:37 special tax,
00:09:38 --> 00:09:40 which is confiscation of goods in the end,
00:09:41 --> 00:09:42 or die.
00:09:43 --> 00:09:44 That's our brothers and sisters
00:09:44 --> 00:09:45 right now.
00:09:46 --> 00:09:47 That's what they're facing.
00:09:47 --> 00:09:50 And thousands upon thousands
00:09:50 --> 00:09:54 have fled and left everything.
00:09:54 --> 00:09:55 Everything.
00:09:57 --> 00:09:59 And it must be a question
00:09:59 --> 00:10:00 that's in their mind.
00:10:00 --> 00:10:01 Would you not imagine
00:10:01 --> 00:10:04 of where is Jesus right now
00:10:04 --> 00:10:06 in amongst that
00:10:06 --> 00:10:08 if he is the ruler of the world?
00:10:09 --> 00:10:11 And I can only say
00:10:11 --> 00:10:12 that what we've read tonight
00:10:12 --> 00:10:13 would be a word of comfort
00:10:13 --> 00:10:15 and perspective for them
00:10:15 --> 00:10:16 as it should be for us
00:10:16 --> 00:10:18 as it was for these Christians
00:10:18 --> 00:10:20 in the first century in Rome.
00:10:21 --> 00:10:22 The first thing
00:10:22 --> 00:10:23 that this revelation says
00:10:23 --> 00:10:25 that in spite of the terrible
00:10:25 --> 00:10:27 hardship that you're facing,
00:10:28 --> 00:10:30 you are truly blessed.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:33 Your life is one of blessing.
00:10:34 --> 00:10:35 That's the first bit of perspective
00:10:35 --> 00:10:36 they need to see.
00:10:36 --> 00:10:37 They were blessed
00:10:37 --> 00:10:38 because God has given
00:10:38 --> 00:10:40 this revelation of Jesus Christ
00:10:40 --> 00:10:41 about what will soon take place.
00:10:41 --> 00:10:42 They're blessed
00:10:42 --> 00:10:43 because they can see
00:10:43 --> 00:10:44 ultimate reality.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:45 They can see
00:10:45 --> 00:10:48 what truly is.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:48 They were blessed
00:10:48 --> 00:10:49 because God was giving them
00:10:49 --> 00:10:51 perspective and clarity
00:10:51 --> 00:10:52 not just on their present
00:10:52 --> 00:10:54 but in their future as well.
00:10:54 --> 00:10:55 They were also blessed
00:10:55 --> 00:10:56 because of what Jesus
00:10:56 --> 00:10:57 has done for them.
00:10:57 --> 00:10:58 See verse 5.
00:10:58 --> 00:10:58 He says,
00:10:59 --> 00:11:01 To him who loves us.
00:11:02 --> 00:11:04 What a great word to say
00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 in these very first verses.
00:11:06 --> 00:11:08 Jesus loves them.
00:11:08 --> 00:11:09 This is in the present tense.
00:11:09 --> 00:11:10 It's not that just
00:11:10 --> 00:11:11 he loved them in the past
00:11:11 --> 00:11:12 but he loves them right now.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:14 Right now.
00:11:15 --> 00:11:16 And Jesus' love for his people
00:11:16 --> 00:11:18 led Jesus ultimately
00:11:18 --> 00:11:20 to lay down his life for them.
00:11:20 --> 00:11:21 They are blessed
00:11:21 --> 00:11:22 because in laying down
00:11:22 --> 00:11:22 his life for them,
00:11:22 --> 00:11:23 verse 5,
00:11:23 --> 00:11:25 he has freed them
00:11:25 --> 00:11:26 from our sins
00:11:26 --> 00:11:27 by his blood.
00:11:29 --> 00:11:30 You see,
00:11:30 --> 00:11:31 those who sin,
00:11:31 --> 00:11:32 according to the Bible,
00:11:33 --> 00:11:34 deserve to die.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:35 And death
00:11:35 --> 00:11:36 is separation from God.
00:11:36 --> 00:11:38 And Jesus' death
00:11:38 --> 00:11:40 cancels our obligation
00:11:40 --> 00:11:42 to pay the penalty
00:11:42 --> 00:11:43 for our sins to God
00:11:43 --> 00:11:45 so that we might in fact
00:11:45 --> 00:11:46 be reconciled to God
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 and live forever.
00:11:49 --> 00:11:51 And when you've got that,
00:11:51 --> 00:11:52 you've got everything.
00:11:56 --> 00:11:57 The blood of Jesus
00:11:57 --> 00:11:58 frees people
00:11:58 --> 00:12:01 from enslaving sin,
00:12:02 --> 00:12:03 lust and greed
00:12:03 --> 00:12:04 and pride and anger
00:12:04 --> 00:12:05 and everything else.
00:12:05 --> 00:12:08 The blood of Jesus
00:12:08 --> 00:12:09 breaks the power
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 of cancelled sin.
00:12:11 --> 00:12:12 We are blessed
00:12:12 --> 00:12:13 because of what we have
00:12:13 --> 00:12:14 in Jesus
00:12:14 --> 00:12:15 regardless of the circumstances.
00:12:18 --> 00:12:19 Verse 6 says,
00:12:19 --> 00:12:20 He has made us
00:12:20 --> 00:12:22 a kingdom and priest
00:12:22 --> 00:12:24 to his God and Father.
00:12:24 --> 00:12:24 That is,
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 we belong to Jesus,
00:12:25 --> 00:12:26 we are his people
00:12:26 --> 00:12:27 and our allegiance is to him.
00:12:27 --> 00:12:29 We are blessed
00:12:29 --> 00:12:31 because the kingdom
00:12:31 --> 00:12:31 of Jesus
00:12:31 --> 00:12:33 cannot be overcome.
00:12:35 --> 00:12:37 This blessing of love
00:12:37 --> 00:12:38 and forgiveness of sins
00:12:38 --> 00:12:39 that comes from Jesus
00:12:39 --> 00:12:41 is a secure blessing.
00:12:42 --> 00:12:42 No one can take it from you.
00:12:43 --> 00:12:43 Notice who gives it to us.
00:12:43 --> 00:12:44 Verse 4,
00:12:44 --> 00:12:45 From him who was
00:12:45 --> 00:12:46 and who is to come.
00:12:46 --> 00:12:47 Verse 5,
00:12:47 --> 00:12:48 From Jesus Christ,
00:12:48 --> 00:12:49 the firstborn from the dead
00:12:49 --> 00:12:50 and the ruler of the kings
00:12:50 --> 00:12:51 of the earth.
00:12:51 --> 00:12:52 Verse 6,
00:12:52 --> 00:12:54 The one to whom power
00:12:54 --> 00:12:55 and glory belong forever.
00:12:55 --> 00:12:55 Verse 8,
00:12:55 --> 00:12:56 The one who is
00:12:56 --> 00:12:57 and who was
00:12:57 --> 00:12:58 and who is to come.
00:12:58 --> 00:12:59 the almighty.
00:13:02 --> 00:13:03 How good
00:13:03 --> 00:13:05 must John's experience
00:13:05 --> 00:13:06 of Christ be
00:13:06 --> 00:13:07 for him to declare
00:13:07 --> 00:13:08 this blessing.
00:13:11 --> 00:13:12 You know,
00:13:12 --> 00:13:14 don't let this point
00:13:14 --> 00:13:15 miss you.
00:13:15 --> 00:13:16 John is sitting
00:13:16 --> 00:13:18 in a prison cell
00:13:18 --> 00:13:19 as an old man
00:13:19 --> 00:13:21 breaking stones
00:13:21 --> 00:13:21 for a living
00:13:21 --> 00:13:22 and he says,
00:13:23 --> 00:13:23 Man,
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 how great it is
00:13:24 --> 00:13:25 to be in Christ.
00:13:25 --> 00:13:29 In spite of the way
00:13:29 --> 00:13:30 that Christianity
00:13:30 --> 00:13:31 will not advance
00:13:31 --> 00:13:33 you in the Roman Empire,
00:13:34 --> 00:13:35 in spite of the fact
00:13:35 --> 00:13:36 that knowing Jesus
00:13:36 --> 00:13:37 could cost you
00:13:37 --> 00:13:37 your possessions,
00:13:38 --> 00:13:39 land you in prison
00:13:39 --> 00:13:40 or cost you your life,
00:13:40 --> 00:13:41 you're blessed
00:13:41 --> 00:13:42 if you know Jesus.
00:13:42 --> 00:13:43 John must think
00:13:43 --> 00:13:45 it is better
00:13:45 --> 00:13:47 to stand right before God
00:13:47 --> 00:13:49 by faith in Christ,
00:13:49 --> 00:13:50 forgiven and free
00:13:50 --> 00:13:52 of all of your sin
00:13:52 --> 00:13:54 than it is
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 to have all of the
00:13:55 --> 00:13:56 Roman Empire
00:13:56 --> 00:13:56 bow to you.
00:13:59 --> 00:14:00 John must think
00:14:00 --> 00:14:01 that there is life
00:14:01 --> 00:14:02 after this life
00:14:02 --> 00:14:03 in which the rewards
00:14:03 --> 00:14:04 for those
00:14:04 --> 00:14:05 who belong to Jesus
00:14:05 --> 00:14:07 will be superior
00:14:07 --> 00:14:08 to all the pleasures
00:14:08 --> 00:14:09 of sin
00:14:09 --> 00:14:10 in this present world.
00:14:12 --> 00:14:14 This must have been
00:14:14 --> 00:14:15 an enormous comfort
00:14:15 --> 00:14:17 to John
00:14:17 --> 00:14:19 sitting in the island
00:14:19 --> 00:14:20 of Patmos.
00:14:20 --> 00:14:21 But it's also
00:14:21 --> 00:14:22 a comfort
00:14:22 --> 00:14:24 for the Christians
00:14:24 --> 00:14:25 in the Roman Empire.
00:14:25 --> 00:14:26 and ultimately
00:14:26 --> 00:14:27 for us as well.
00:14:28 --> 00:14:29 The voice that he heard
00:14:29 --> 00:14:30 in verse 10
00:14:30 --> 00:14:31 says in verse 11,
00:14:31 --> 00:14:32 write on a scroll
00:14:32 --> 00:14:33 what you see
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 and send it
00:14:34 --> 00:14:35 to the seven churches.

00:17:19 --> 00:17:20 merely over
00:17:20 --> 00:17:21 the churches.
00:17:21 --> 00:17:21 He's not
00:17:21 --> 00:17:22 distant from
00:17:22 --> 00:17:23 the churches.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:24 He's in the
00:17:24 --> 00:17:25 middle of the
00:17:25 --> 00:17:26 churches.

00:18:00 --> 00:18:01 language worshipped
00:18:01 --> 00:18:01 him.
00:18:02 --> 00:18:03 His dominion
00:18:03 --> 00:18:03 is an
00:18:03 --> 00:18:03 everlasting
00:18:03 --> 00:18:05 dominion that
00:18:05 --> 00:18:05 will not
00:18:05 --> 00:18:06 pass away and
00:18:06 --> 00:18:07 his kingdom

00:18:21 --> 00:18:22 of his kingdom
00:18:22 --> 00:18:22 with all
00:18:22 --> 00:18:23 dominion,
00:18:23 --> 00:18:23 glory and
00:18:23 --> 00:18:24 kingdom power.
00:18:25 --> 00:18:25 It will be
00:18:25 --> 00:18:26 an eternal
00:18:26 --> 00:18:27 kingdom.
00:18:27 --> 00:18:27 kingdom,
00:18:28 --> 00:18:29 someone with
00:18:29 --> 00:18:29 authority over
00:18:29 --> 00:18:30 all nations,
00:18:30 --> 00:18:31 all peoples,

00:18:53 --> 00:18:54 this figure
00:18:54 --> 00:18:54 that John
00:18:54 --> 00:18:55 saw in
00:18:55 --> 00:18:56 verse 13.
00:18:56 --> 00:18:57 The son of
00:18:57 --> 00:18:57 man was
00:18:57 --> 00:18:58 dressed in
00:18:58 --> 00:18:58 a robe
00:18:58 --> 00:18:59 reaching down
00:18:59 --> 00:18:59 to his feet

00:19:11 --> 00:19:11 shows two
00:19:11 --> 00:19:12 things.
00:19:12 --> 00:19:13 It's up here
00:19:13 --> 00:19:13 around his
00:19:13 --> 00:19:14 chest,
00:19:14 --> 00:19:14 it's not
00:19:14 --> 00:19:14 around his
00:19:14 --> 00:19:15 waist and
00:19:15 --> 00:19:16 it's gold.
00:19:16 --> 00:19:17 The fact
00:19:17 --> 00:19:17 that it's
00:19:17 --> 00:19:18 gold shows
00:19:18 --> 00:19:19 that his
00:19:19 --> 00:19:20 priesthood is
00:19:20 --> 00:19:21 a highly
00:19:21 --> 00:19:22 valued priesthood
00:19:22 --> 00:19:24 and it is a
00:19:24 --> 00:19:25 great priesthood.
00:19:25 --> 00:19:26 Jesus is not
00:19:26 --> 00:19:27 only the son
00:19:27 --> 00:19:27 of man from
00:19:27 --> 00:19:28 Daniel chapter
00:19:28 --> 00:19:28 7 who
00:19:28 --> 00:19:29 receives
00:19:29 --> 00:19:29 everlasting
00:19:29 --> 00:19:31 dominion over
00:19:31 --> 00:19:31 all nations
00:19:31 --> 00:19:32 and people,
00:19:32 --> 00:19:33 he is also
00:19:33 --> 00:19:33 the final
00:19:33 --> 00:19:34 high priest
00:19:34 --> 00:19:35 who brings
00:19:35 --> 00:19:36 all the
00:19:36 --> 00:19:36 priestly work
00:19:36 --> 00:19:37 of the
00:19:37 --> 00:19:37 temple to
00:19:37 --> 00:19:38 the end.
00:19:38 --> 00:19:38 There's no
00:19:38 --> 00:19:39 more need
00:19:39 --> 00:19:40 to sacrifice
00:19:40 --> 00:19:41 any animals
00:19:41 --> 00:19:43 to get right
00:19:43 --> 00:19:43 with God.
00:19:44 --> 00:19:44 Verse 5
00:19:44 --> 00:19:45 says that
00:19:45 --> 00:19:46 Christ freed
00:19:46 --> 00:19:47 us from
00:19:47 --> 00:19:47 our sins
00:19:47 --> 00:19:48 by his
00:19:48 --> 00:19:48 blood.

00:19:49 --> 00:19:50 this priest
00:19:50 --> 00:19:50 is so
00:19:50 --> 00:19:52 great that
00:19:52 --> 00:19:53 he gave
00:19:53 --> 00:19:53 his own
00:19:53 --> 00:19:54 blood once
00:19:54 --> 00:19:54 and for
00:19:54 --> 00:19:54 all.
00:19:55 --> 00:19:57 For the
00:19:57 --> 00:19:57 sin of
00:19:57 --> 00:19:57 all
00:19:57 --> 00:19:58 humanity
00:19:58 --> 00:20:00 so that

00:21:21 --> 00:21:22 you're trying
00:21:22 --> 00:21:22 to stay

00:21:23 --> 00:21:24 finally get
00:21:24 --> 00:21:24 the end of
00:21:24 --> 00:21:25 the movie
00:21:25 --> 00:21:25 and the
00:21:25 --> 00:21:26 plot line.

00:28:24 --> 00:28:25 writer reflecting

00:28:29 --> 00:28:30 persecution.

00:28:33 --> 00:28:35 everyone, but
00:28:35 --> 00:28:36 by everyone

00:28:36 --> 00:28:37 persecuted.

00:28:38 --> 00:28:39 unknown, yet
00:28:39 --> 00:28:40 they are
00:28:40 --> 00:28:40 condemned.
00:28:41 --> 00:28:41 They are put
00:28:41 --> 00:28:42 to death, and
00:28:42 --> 00:28:43 yet they are
00:28:43 --> 00:28:43 brought to
00:28:43 --> 00:28:43 life.
00:28:44 --> 00:28:45 They are
00:28:45 --> 00:28:47 poor, and
00:28:47 --> 00:28:47 yet they make
00:28:47 --> 00:28:48 so many rich.
00:28:49 --> 00:28:50 They are in
00:28:50 --> 00:28:50 need of
00:28:50 --> 00:28:51 everything, and
00:28:51 --> 00:28:51 yet they are
00:28:51 --> 00:28:52 bound in
00:28:52 --> 00:28:52 everything.
00:28:53 --> 00:28:53 They are
00:28:53 --> 00:28:54 dishonored, and
00:28:54 --> 00:28:55 yet they are
00:28:55 --> 00:28:56 glorified in
00:28:56 --> 00:28:56 their dishonor.
00:28:56 --> 00:28:57 They are
00:28:57 --> 00:28:57 slandered, and
00:28:57 --> 00:28:58 yet they are
00:28:58 --> 00:28:59 vindicated.
00:28:59 --> 00:29:00 They are
00:29:00 --> 00:29:00 cursed, and
00:29:00 --> 00:29:01 yet they
00:29:01 --> 00:29:01 bless.

00:29:02 --> 00:29:03 insulted, yet
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 they offer
00:29:04 --> 00:29:04 respect.

00:29:07 --> 00:29:08 are punished
00:29:08 --> 00:29:09 as evildoers.

00:30:12 --> 00:30:13 treasure Jesus

00:30:14 --> 00:30:15 showing by their
00:30:15 --> 00:30:16 lives that
