00:00:08 --> 00:00:10 Like, we don't have a month of membership.
00:00:11 --> 00:00:14 We could, but we're not.
00:00:14 --> 00:00:16 But we got a whole month of global missions.
00:00:17 --> 00:00:20 So, wow, you know, that's pretty privileged.
00:00:21 --> 00:00:25 And as I sought to argue in that video,
00:00:25 --> 00:00:30 that mission, a global mission, is a gospel imperative.
00:00:32 --> 00:00:34 I urge you, if you're not convinced, to check it out,
00:00:34 --> 00:00:39 even if you were convinced, to check it out in Luke 24.
00:00:39 --> 00:00:40 Luke 24.
00:00:40 --> 00:00:43 So the context is post-resurrection,
00:00:44 --> 00:00:49 and Jesus was explaining to his disciples what just happened
00:00:49 --> 00:00:50 and the meaning of it.
00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 And he kind of said, well, you should know this
00:00:53 --> 00:00:56 because the Old Testament has taught you this,
00:00:57 --> 00:00:59 that the Christ must die, the Christ must rise,
00:00:59 --> 00:01:05 and repentance of faith must be preached to all the nations
00:01:05 --> 00:01:06 in the name of Jesus.
00:01:07 --> 00:01:09 So global mission, gospel imperatives.
00:01:10 --> 00:01:12 And again, you know, just to reiterate,
00:01:12 --> 00:01:14 there are lots of things we can do without.
00:01:15 --> 00:01:15 Okay?
00:01:15 --> 00:01:17 And we still have the Christian faith, Christianity,
00:01:18 --> 00:01:19 and you can still be a Christian.
00:01:19 --> 00:01:20 We don't need this building.
00:01:21 --> 00:01:22 Okay?
00:01:22 --> 00:01:23 Unless it rains.
00:01:23 --> 00:01:28 Christianity, we don't need this building to, you know.
00:01:28 --> 00:01:31 We don't, God forbid, need a parish council.
00:01:32 --> 00:01:36 If that disappears tomorrow, there's still Christianity.
00:01:36 --> 00:01:37 You don't even need the ministers.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:39 It's quite amazing.
00:01:39 --> 00:01:40 We're not Roman Catholics.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:45 We could all get, you know, the staff could die tomorrow
00:01:45 --> 00:01:48 or horrible disease, and you could still be Christians.
00:01:48 --> 00:01:49 That's one of them.
00:01:49 --> 00:01:53 But you can't do without the death of Jesus,
00:01:54 --> 00:01:59 the resurrection of Jesus, and the mission, global mission,
00:01:59 --> 00:02:00 to proclaim.
00:02:01 --> 00:02:02 What do I mean by mission?
00:02:02 --> 00:02:07 I simply mean the proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom of God.
00:02:07 --> 00:02:09 It is as simple as that.
00:02:09 --> 00:02:13 It is telling people about Jesus who's king of the kingdom.
00:02:14 --> 00:02:14 So mission.
00:02:15 --> 00:02:16 Simple enough.
00:02:16 --> 00:02:18 What do we mean by global mission?
00:02:18 --> 00:02:19 Global mission.
00:02:19 --> 00:02:21 And that's quite easy.
00:02:21 --> 00:02:23 Global means the world.
00:02:24 --> 00:02:25 Okay?
00:02:25 --> 00:02:30 Global mission involves preaching Jesus to all the world.
00:02:30 --> 00:02:35 And I'm slowly coming to the conviction
00:02:35 --> 00:02:41 that global mission is not just going from here to there.
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 I think that the world has changed, has moved on,
00:02:46 --> 00:02:51 that the here and the there sort of distinction is no longer valid.
00:02:51 --> 00:02:55 So if I can so tentatively and nervously suggest,
00:02:55 --> 00:02:59 perhaps we should change local and global impact
00:02:59 --> 00:03:01 to just global impact.
00:03:02 --> 00:03:06 Just to help us to see that what we do here
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 is part of what's happening in the whole world.
00:03:11 --> 00:03:16 I think nowadays, everyone goes from everywhere to everywhere.
00:03:17 --> 00:03:22 What is, I think, most challenging in the task of mission
00:03:22 --> 00:03:28 is crossing barriers, crossing cultural barriers
00:03:28 --> 00:03:31 to different parts of the world,
00:03:31 --> 00:03:33 perhaps to different type of people,
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 even in this part of the world.
00:03:38 --> 00:03:40 I don't know whether you're convinced of this,
00:03:40 --> 00:03:44 but ironically, I think globalisation and technology
00:03:44 --> 00:03:48 are both making us even more homogenous.
00:03:49 --> 00:03:51 You know, on Facebook, you might think,
00:03:52 --> 00:03:54 wow, I've got a million friends,
00:03:55 --> 00:04:00 but most of them are people just like you and me.
00:04:01 --> 00:04:03 Well, maybe, no, I don't know.
00:04:04 --> 00:04:09 But technology is making us into sort of siloing
00:04:09 --> 00:04:10 with people just like us.
00:04:12 --> 00:04:15 In fact, increasingly, I look at churches around in Sydney,
00:04:16 --> 00:04:18 we are becoming more homogenous than ever before.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:21 You might look, oh, you know, no, no, that's not true.
00:04:21 --> 00:04:24 There's Chinese people and non-Chinese people and whatever.
00:04:24 --> 00:04:28 But at some level, no, actually, we're all pretty similar.
00:04:28 --> 00:04:30 We all live in the North Shore.
00:04:30 --> 00:04:32 We have sort of vaguely similar sort of values.
00:04:33 --> 00:04:36 They're not sort of, you know, really crazy people in our church,
00:04:37 --> 00:04:38 except for Josh.
00:04:38 --> 00:04:41 You know, but he's an exception.
00:04:42 --> 00:04:43 But he's from Canada.
00:04:48 --> 00:04:49 You know, it's...

00:04:53 --> 00:04:55 that was kind of saying that it makes a hard...

00:04:57 --> 00:05:01 of relating to people who are just different to us.
00:05:01 --> 00:05:02 We don't know how to talk to them.
00:05:02 --> 00:05:04 We don't know how to disagree with them.
00:05:04 --> 00:05:05 We just give up, you know.
00:05:05 --> 00:05:08 They are not our Facebook friends.
00:05:08 --> 00:05:11 And we just stick with people that we can talk to,
00:05:11 --> 00:05:13 that we can agree with.
00:05:14 --> 00:05:15 And church becomes a...
00:05:15 --> 00:05:17 And this is why I think in global mission,
00:05:17 --> 00:05:21 the biggest challenge to us is to cross those barriers,
00:05:22 --> 00:05:26 to take Jesus to people who are just different to us.
00:05:26 --> 00:05:30 And that's what we're talking about.
00:05:30 --> 00:05:31 And it is imperative.
00:05:31 --> 00:05:33 It is not an optional extra.
00:05:33 --> 00:05:36 For those of us sitting here in the North Shore today,
00:05:37 --> 00:05:41 we need to be taking Jesus to people not in the North Shore.
00:05:42 --> 00:05:45 Why aren't we running missions in Mount Druid?
00:05:46 --> 00:05:47 Why are we doing that?
00:05:49 --> 00:05:50 Why aren't we...
00:05:50 --> 00:05:51 I don't know.
00:05:51 --> 00:05:52 Like, it's not an...
00:05:52 --> 00:05:55 We need to take Jesus to all those people.
00:05:55 --> 00:05:59 And we'll be looking at different elements of this global mission
00:05:59 --> 00:06:02 in the course of the next few weeks.
00:06:02 --> 00:06:05 But this week, just three things.
00:06:05 --> 00:06:07 I want to focus your attention on the passage
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 that we're looking at tonight.
00:06:10 --> 00:06:13 The first thing that I would say is the context of the passage
00:06:13 --> 00:06:15 is very different to our own.
00:06:16 --> 00:06:19 I want to say this because just in case you're really naughty
00:06:19 --> 00:06:21 and you go beyond chapter 9 into chapter 10,
00:06:23 --> 00:06:26 and you actually see Jesus sending off his disciples,
00:06:27 --> 00:06:29 and he makes sort of funny statements and saying,
00:06:29 --> 00:06:30 don't...
00:06:30 --> 00:06:32 Whatever you do, like, go on this mission,
00:06:33 --> 00:06:34 don't go to the Samaritans,
00:06:35 --> 00:06:36 and don't go to the Gentiles.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:37 Right?
00:06:37 --> 00:06:39 And you might think, well, what's going on there?
00:06:40 --> 00:06:41 Can I just ignore that part?
00:06:41 --> 00:06:47 Or how can we be consistently saying global mission means evangelising everyone
00:06:47 --> 00:06:48 when Jesus...
00:06:48 --> 00:06:49 Well, it's a different context.
00:06:49 --> 00:06:52 It's a different salvation historical context.
00:06:53 --> 00:06:55 The Bible itself explains it.
00:06:56 --> 00:06:58 There is a plan at play.
00:06:59 --> 00:07:02 The Jews, the people of Israel,
00:07:03 --> 00:07:06 is a beneficiary of the gospel,
00:07:06 --> 00:07:08 of the work of the Messiah first,
00:07:08 --> 00:07:10 and then the rest of us.
00:07:10 --> 00:07:12 So there is a priority in the plan.
00:07:14 --> 00:07:15 And Matthew 9 and 10
00:07:15 --> 00:07:18 is kind of like an expression of that.
00:07:19 --> 00:07:21 The plan is still continuing
00:07:21 --> 00:07:25 and therefore is still relevant to us.
00:07:26 --> 00:07:28 So I want to point out approximately four things
00:07:28 --> 00:07:30 out of the passage that we're reading.
00:07:30 --> 00:07:32 If you go to the passage,
00:07:32 --> 00:07:34 Matthew 9, verse 35.
00:07:36 --> 00:07:38 Sorry, let me call up.
00:07:38 --> 00:07:39 35.
00:07:41 --> 00:07:44 Jesus went through all the towns and villages,
00:07:44 --> 00:07:46 teaching in their synagogues,
00:07:46 --> 00:07:48 preaching the good news of the kingdom
00:07:48 --> 00:07:51 and healing every disease and sickness.
00:07:52 --> 00:07:55 It's a summary statement of what Jesus has been doing.
00:07:56 --> 00:07:59 If you look at chapter 8, chapter 9,
00:08:00 --> 00:08:01 all of it,
00:08:01 --> 00:08:05 you'll find that Jesus is doing exactly what that statement says.
00:08:05 --> 00:08:07 He's going around preaching
00:08:07 --> 00:08:09 and he's going around healing.
00:08:11 --> 00:08:12 He might, you know,
00:08:12 --> 00:08:13 he's rather restrictive.
00:08:14 --> 00:08:17 Surely he was doing more than just preaching and healing.
00:08:18 --> 00:08:20 Surely he was eating and chatting to people,
00:08:21 --> 00:08:21 going to part.
00:08:21 --> 00:08:22 But no, no, no.
00:08:22 --> 00:08:24 The two activities
00:08:24 --> 00:08:26 which Matthew focused on
00:08:26 --> 00:08:27 are these two.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:29 Preaching the gospel of the kingdom
00:08:29 --> 00:08:32 and healing every disease.
00:08:32 --> 00:08:32 Well, preaching.
00:08:34 --> 00:08:36 It tells us something about
00:08:36 --> 00:08:39 the central core of Christianity.
00:08:39 --> 00:08:40 The core of Christianity,
00:08:40 --> 00:08:42 the central message of Christianity
00:08:42 --> 00:08:44 is not be a good person.
00:08:44 --> 00:08:45 Okay?
00:08:46 --> 00:08:48 And if that is what you think,
00:08:49 --> 00:08:51 I want you to throw that away.
00:08:53 --> 00:08:53 Okay?
00:08:54 --> 00:08:58 The central message of the Bible of Christianity
00:08:58 --> 00:09:00 is not be a good person.
00:09:00 --> 00:09:03 Nor is it come and join a religion.
00:09:04 --> 00:09:05 In a sense.
00:09:05 --> 00:09:06 It's not, that is not,
00:09:07 --> 00:09:07 the message,
00:09:07 --> 00:09:09 the central core of the message of the Christianity
00:09:09 --> 00:09:10 is a warning.
00:09:11 --> 00:09:12 A warning.
00:09:12 --> 00:09:14 It is like a sign on a highway.
00:09:15 --> 00:09:16 If you're on your L's,
00:09:16 --> 00:09:18 you dread to see the sign
00:09:18 --> 00:09:19 because it says,
00:09:19 --> 00:09:20 wrong way,
00:09:20 --> 00:09:22 go back.
00:09:24 --> 00:09:24 Okay?
00:09:25 --> 00:09:25 That,
00:09:25 --> 00:09:27 that is the message of Jesus.
00:09:28 --> 00:09:30 Matthew chapter 4, 17.
00:09:30 --> 00:09:31 Jesus says,
00:09:31 --> 00:09:31 repent,
00:09:32 --> 00:09:34 for the kingdom of heaven is near.
00:09:34 --> 00:09:34 Repent.
00:09:35 --> 00:09:35 Wrong way,
00:09:36 --> 00:09:37 go the other way.
00:09:38 --> 00:09:38 Turn, turn around.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:39 Why?
00:09:39 --> 00:09:41 Because the kingdom of heaven is near.
00:09:41 --> 00:09:41 Because,
00:09:42 --> 00:09:44 if you keep going the way that you do,
00:09:45 --> 00:09:48 you will have a head-on collision with God.
00:09:49 --> 00:09:51 And when his kingdom comes,
00:09:51 --> 00:09:53 his judgment comes
00:09:53 --> 00:09:57 to destroy evil and wickedness and rebellion.
00:09:57 --> 00:10:00 And you are heading,
00:10:00 --> 00:10:06 and you are heading face-to-face on a head-on collision with God.
00:10:06 --> 00:10:07 So,
00:10:07 --> 00:10:07 wrong way,
00:10:08 --> 00:10:09 go back.
00:10:09 --> 00:10:10 Repent,
00:10:10 --> 00:10:12 for the kingdom of heaven is near.
00:10:14 --> 00:10:15 The core of the Christian man.
00:10:15 --> 00:10:16 Secondly,
00:10:16 --> 00:10:20 we are told that Jesus was healing every sickness and disease.
00:10:20 --> 00:10:24 And if you go back to chapter 9,
00:10:24 --> 00:10:25 chapter 8,
00:10:26 --> 00:10:26 what do you see?
00:10:26 --> 00:10:26 Well,
00:10:26 --> 00:10:27 chapter 9,
00:10:27 --> 00:10:28 verse 1,
00:10:28 --> 00:10:30 Jesus healed a paralytic man.
00:10:31 --> 00:10:32 He forgave his sins.
00:10:33 --> 00:10:33 Chapter 9,
00:10:33 --> 00:10:34 verse 18,
00:10:35 --> 00:10:36 there was a dead girl,
00:10:36 --> 00:10:38 and Jesus gave life back to her.
00:10:38 --> 00:10:42 In the same little passage,
00:10:43 --> 00:10:48 we read of Jesus healing a woman who's been bleeding for 12 years.
00:10:49 --> 00:10:50 Verse 27,
00:10:51 --> 00:10:53 Jesus overcomes an evil spirit
00:10:53 --> 00:10:57 and gives sight and speech back to a man.
00:10:58 --> 00:10:59 What's that about?
00:11:00 --> 00:11:02 It is about the world that we live in.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:04 What is the world like
00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 that is not the kingdom of God?
00:11:06 --> 00:11:09 Where God is not,
00:11:09 --> 00:11:10 as it were,
00:11:10 --> 00:11:11 ruling in an absolute sense.
00:11:11 --> 00:11:12 Where we are ruling.
00:11:13 --> 00:11:14 Well,
00:11:14 --> 00:11:15 that is the world that we live in.
00:11:15 --> 00:11:18 And it is a world that is broken and cursed.
00:11:20 --> 00:11:21 Long enough,
00:11:21 --> 00:11:22 we all experience it.
00:11:23 --> 00:11:29 It is a world of sickness and disease and tragedy and war and injustice
00:11:29 --> 00:11:33 and self-serving ambition.
00:11:34 --> 00:11:35 And above all,
00:11:35 --> 00:11:37 it is a world of death.
00:11:38 --> 00:11:40 Jesus has come
00:11:40 --> 00:11:42 to preach
00:11:42 --> 00:11:46 the news that God's kingdom is coming.
00:11:47 --> 00:11:52 And what he does is he demonstrates what that kingdom is like.
00:11:52 --> 00:11:53 And so he
00:11:53 --> 00:11:56 went to the towns and villages
00:11:56 --> 00:11:59 to heal every sickness and disease.
00:11:59 --> 00:12:02 He freed people from evil and oppression.
00:12:02 --> 00:12:03 He gave life
00:12:03 --> 00:12:06 where there is death.
00:12:06 --> 00:12:06 He
00:12:06 --> 00:12:09 has come to bring a foretaste
00:12:09 --> 00:12:10 of the kingdom
00:12:10 --> 00:12:11 of heaven
00:12:11 --> 00:12:13 where the good rule of God
00:12:13 --> 00:12:15 reigns supreme.
00:12:16 --> 00:12:17 So 35,
00:12:18 --> 00:12:18 verse 35,
00:12:19 --> 00:12:20 is a summary statement
00:12:20 --> 00:12:21 of the work
00:12:21 --> 00:12:22 of Jesus.
00:12:22 --> 00:12:23 Jesus has come into the world
00:12:23 --> 00:12:24 to do that.
00:12:24 --> 00:12:25 Well,
00:12:25 --> 00:12:27 what's that to do with
00:12:27 --> 00:12:28 our mission?
00:12:29 --> 00:12:29 Well,
00:12:29 --> 00:12:30 there are three things to note.
00:12:31 --> 00:12:31 Firstly,
00:12:31 --> 00:12:32 the motivation
00:12:32 --> 00:12:33 of mission.
00:12:34 --> 00:12:35 Come with me
00:12:35 --> 00:12:35 to have a look at
00:12:35 --> 00:12:36 verse 36.
00:12:37 --> 00:12:38 So a summary statement
00:12:38 --> 00:12:39 of what Jesus has done.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:41 36,
00:12:41 --> 00:12:42 when he saw the crowds,
00:12:42 --> 00:12:42 that is,
00:12:42 --> 00:12:43 as he went around
00:12:43 --> 00:12:44 to the towns
00:12:44 --> 00:12:45 and the villages
00:12:45 --> 00:12:46 and he saw the people,
00:12:47 --> 00:12:47 what did he see?
00:12:47 --> 00:12:49 He had compassion on them
00:12:49 --> 00:12:51 because they were harassed
00:12:51 --> 00:12:51 and helpless
00:12:51 --> 00:12:53 like sheep
00:12:53 --> 00:12:54 without a shepherd.
00:12:56 --> 00:12:57 The motivation
00:12:57 --> 00:12:58 for mission.
00:12:59 --> 00:12:59 We
00:12:59 --> 00:13:01 have inherited
00:13:01 --> 00:13:02 this idea of God
00:13:02 --> 00:13:03 from
00:13:03 --> 00:13:06 the 19th century.
00:13:07 --> 00:13:08 It's called deism,
00:13:08 --> 00:13:09 for those of you
00:13:09 --> 00:13:10 who are interested in this.
00:13:10 --> 00:13:11 This idea of God
00:13:11 --> 00:13:11 is,
00:13:12 --> 00:13:12 we look at the world
00:13:12 --> 00:13:13 around us
00:13:13 --> 00:13:14 and it's a wonderful,
00:13:15 --> 00:13:16 complex place.
00:13:16 --> 00:13:18 It's a complex machine
00:13:18 --> 00:13:20 like a supercomputer,
00:13:21 --> 00:13:21 right,
00:13:21 --> 00:13:22 with all the little bits
00:13:22 --> 00:13:23 and,
00:13:23 --> 00:13:24 and what we do in science
00:13:24 --> 00:13:25 is that we discover
00:13:25 --> 00:13:26 the intricacies
00:13:26 --> 00:13:27 of the world
00:13:27 --> 00:13:28 and,
00:13:28 --> 00:13:29 and God is this genius
00:13:29 --> 00:13:31 who kind of built
00:13:31 --> 00:13:33 this amazing computer,
00:13:33 --> 00:13:35 computer in his backyard.
00:13:35 --> 00:13:35 You know,
00:13:35 --> 00:13:36 he's that clever.
00:13:37 --> 00:13:38 But the thing about
00:13:38 --> 00:13:39 this genius,
00:13:39 --> 00:13:40 inventor God
00:13:40 --> 00:13:42 is that he's both
00:13:42 --> 00:13:44 blind and indifferent.
00:13:45 --> 00:13:45 You know,
00:13:45 --> 00:13:46 he's built this machine,
00:13:47 --> 00:13:48 he flipped the switch,
00:13:48 --> 00:13:49 and the machine just,
00:13:50 --> 00:13:50 you know,
00:13:50 --> 00:13:51 it just churns.
00:13:51 --> 00:13:52 It runs his routines
00:13:52 --> 00:13:54 and sometimes things
00:13:54 --> 00:13:55 happens in a routine
00:13:55 --> 00:13:56 and,
00:13:57 --> 00:13:57 you know,
00:13:57 --> 00:13:57 he's,
00:13:57 --> 00:13:58 and he doesn't do
00:13:58 --> 00:13:59 anything about it.
00:13:59 --> 00:14:00 He's blind
00:14:00 --> 00:14:01 to whatever
00:14:01 --> 00:14:02 happens to it.
00:14:03 --> 00:14:03 You know,
00:14:03 --> 00:14:04 when tragedy
00:14:04 --> 00:14:06 strikes in our life,
00:14:06 --> 00:14:06 you know,
00:14:06 --> 00:14:07 there's a terrible
00:14:07 --> 00:14:08 car accident
00:14:08 --> 00:14:09 that takes away
00:14:09 --> 00:14:10 the life of somebody
00:14:10 --> 00:14:11 who cares about,
00:14:11 --> 00:14:12 the inventor,
00:14:13 --> 00:14:13 God,
00:14:14 --> 00:14:15 can't see it.
00:14:16 --> 00:14:16 That's why
00:14:16 --> 00:14:17 he's not there
00:14:17 --> 00:14:18 to do anything.
00:14:19 --> 00:14:19 He didn't do it
00:14:19 --> 00:14:20 because he's blind
00:14:20 --> 00:14:21 or he's indifferent
00:14:21 --> 00:14:22 or he can't do
00:14:22 --> 00:14:23 anything about it.
00:14:24 --> 00:14:25 It's called deism.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:26 You know,
00:14:26 --> 00:14:27 another sort of
00:14:27 --> 00:14:29 popular conception
00:14:29 --> 00:14:29 of that is
00:14:29 --> 00:14:30 God off the gaps.
00:14:31 --> 00:14:31 You know,
00:14:31 --> 00:14:33 if we can't explain
00:14:33 --> 00:14:33 something,
00:14:33 --> 00:14:34 it must be God.
00:14:35 --> 00:14:36 Everything else
00:14:36 --> 00:14:37 we can explain,
00:14:37 --> 00:14:38 it can't be God.
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 this is not
00:14:41 --> 00:14:42 the picture
00:14:42 --> 00:14:43 of the God
00:14:43 --> 00:14:43 of the Bible.
00:14:44 --> 00:14:45 What happens
00:14:45 --> 00:14:47 when Jesus saw
00:14:47 --> 00:14:47 the suffering
00:14:47 --> 00:14:49 of the people?
00:14:49 --> 00:14:50 We are told
00:14:50 --> 00:14:51 in verse 36
00:14:51 --> 00:14:52 that he was
00:14:52 --> 00:14:54 moved
00:14:54 --> 00:14:55 by compassion.
00:14:57 --> 00:14:58 Not unmoved.
00:14:59 --> 00:14:59 Not just
00:14:59 --> 00:15:00 a God of the gaps.
00:15:00 --> 00:15:01 Not this blind,

00:26:08 --> 00:26:09 workers is
00:26:09 --> 00:26:10 needed.
00:26:10 --> 00:26:12 just to skip
00:26:12 --> 00:26:12 forward in
00:26:12 --> 00:26:13 chapter 10,
00:26:14 --> 00:26:14 you see that
00:26:14 --> 00:26:15 Jesus then
00:26:15 --> 00:26:16 immediately sent
00:26:16 --> 00:26:17 out the
00:26:17 --> 00:26:18 disciples into
00:26:18 --> 00:26:19 the world.
00:26:20 --> 00:26:20 The followers,
00:26:21 --> 00:26:21 in fact, became
00:26:21 --> 00:26:23 the answer to
00:26:23 --> 00:26:24 their own
00:26:24 --> 00:26:24 prayers.
00:26:25 --> 00:26:26 It is true
00:26:26 --> 00:26:27 that God could
00:26:27 --> 00:26:28 fix the world
00:26:28 --> 00:26:30 with a
00:26:30 --> 00:26:30 snap of
00:26:30 --> 00:26:30 finger.
00:26:33 --> 00:26:34 That might be
00:26:34 --> 00:26:35 our wisdom
00:26:35 --> 00:26:37 and how we
00:26:37 --> 00:26:38 might see
00:26:38 --> 00:26:39 things, but
00:26:39 --> 00:26:40 God in his
00:26:40 --> 00:26:41 wisdom and
00:26:41 --> 00:26:42 in his
00:26:42 --> 00:26:43 might has
00:26:43 --> 00:26:45 chosen to
00:26:45 --> 00:26:46 save this
00:26:46 --> 00:26:47 world to
00:26:47 --> 00:26:47 meet the
00:26:47 --> 00:26:47 needs of
00:26:47 --> 00:26:49 people through
00:26:49 --> 00:26:50 other people.
00:26:53 --> 00:26:53 Proclaiming,
00:26:54 --> 00:26:55 bringing the
00:26:55 --> 00:26:57 kingdom of
00:26:57 --> 00:26:58 his kingdom.
00:26:59 --> 00:27:01 For global
00:27:01 --> 00:27:02 mission is
00:27:02 --> 00:27:03 just not a
00:27:03 --> 00:27:04 task to be
00:27:04 --> 00:27:05 done, not
00:27:05 --> 00:27:05 just a
00:27:05 --> 00:27:06 project to
00:27:06 --> 00:27:09 undertake, but
00:27:09 --> 00:27:10 relationships to
00:27:10 --> 00:27:11 be formed.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:13 When we pray,
00:27:13 --> 00:27:14 when we engage
00:27:14 --> 00:27:14 in mission,
00:27:16 --> 00:27:19 we're forming
00:27:19 --> 00:27:20 a fellowship.
00:27:20 --> 00:27:21 We're being
00:27:21 --> 00:27:22 involved in
00:27:22 --> 00:27:23 the lives of
00:27:23 --> 00:27:23 people far,
00:27:23 --> 00:27:24 far away.
00:27:25 --> 00:27:26 There's
00:27:26 --> 00:27:26 relationship.
00:27:27 --> 00:27:27 It is not
00:27:27 --> 00:27:28 just superstition.
00:27:29 --> 00:27:30 Somehow, if we
00:27:30 --> 00:27:31 raise X dollars,
00:27:32 --> 00:27:32 then things will
00:27:32 --> 00:27:33 happen.
00:27:33 --> 00:27:35 global mission
00:27:35 --> 00:27:36 involves faith.
00:27:36 --> 00:27:37 It's not just a
00:27:37 --> 00:27:38 forming of
00:27:38 --> 00:27:38 relationship with
00:27:38 --> 00:27:40 other people, it
00:27:40 --> 00:27:41 is a forming of
00:27:41 --> 00:27:42 relationship with
00:27:42 --> 00:27:42 God.
00:27:45 --> 00:27:46 Fundamentally, at
00:27:46 --> 00:27:47 a theological
00:27:47 --> 00:27:48 level, we see
00:27:48 --> 00:27:50 here that global
00:27:50 --> 00:27:51 mission, the
00:27:51 --> 00:27:52 underlying
00:27:52 --> 00:27:54 theology, that
00:27:54 --> 00:27:55 God uses
00:27:55 --> 00:27:56 people, that
00:27:56 --> 00:27:57 almighty God
00:27:57 --> 00:27:58 who can use
00:27:58 --> 00:27:58 anything that he
00:27:58 --> 00:28:00 wants, use
00:28:00 --> 00:28:04 you and me, to
00:28:04 --> 00:28:05 save people.
00:28:05 --> 00:28:06 That is why
00:28:06 --> 00:28:07 Jesus commands
00:28:07 --> 00:28:08 his followers to
00:28:08 --> 00:28:09 pray for God to
00:28:09 --> 00:28:10 set out workers.
00:28:13 --> 00:28:14 The context of

00:28:16 --> 00:28:17 ours in terms of
00:28:17 --> 00:28:18 its salvation

00:28:44 --> 00:28:45 collision course, so
00:28:45 --> 00:28:47 repent and believe
00:28:47 --> 00:28:48 in the good news,

00:28:49 --> 00:28:49 true.
00:28:51 --> 00:28:52 The kingdom of
00:28:52 --> 00:28:53 God is still
00:28:53 --> 00:28:53 coming.
00:28:53 --> 00:28:54 The judgment of
00:28:54 --> 00:28:55 God on this
00:28:55 --> 00:28:56 world is still
00:28:56 --> 00:28:57 coming.
00:28:58 --> 00:28:59 This is still
00:28:59 --> 00:29:00 the time to
00:29:00 --> 00:29:02 repent and
00:29:02 --> 00:29:03 believe the
00:29:03 --> 00:29:04 good news.
