Whenever lives are lost unexpectedly, the same painful questions rise: Where is God? Why did He allow this? Could He have stopped it? In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef looks at how Jesus responded to two tragedies that shook the people of His day.
In Luke 13, Jesus refers to Galileans who were killed while worshiping and to eighteen people who died when the tower of Siloam collapsed. The crowd assumed those victims must have been worse sinners than everyone else. Jesus rejected that conclusion outright.
Instead, He turned the conversation toward a deeper spiritual reality: tragedy should remind us of the brevity of life and the urgency of repentance. Jesus warned that judgment ultimately comes to all who refuse to turn from sin and receive God’s mercy.
But this is not a message without hope. God has provided a way of escape through Jesus Christ. Through Him, sinners can receive forgiveness, grace, victory over sin, and the promise of eternal life.
This episode offers a biblical perspective for moments when suffering feels senseless—calling us away from speculation and toward repentance, faith, and the everlasting hope found in Christ.
