At the root of much anxiety is the fear that something valuable will be taken away—our possessions, security, plans, or future. In today’s episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds believers that true peace cannot be found in what we own, but in the God who owns everything and graciously provides for His people.
God does not bless us merely so that we can accumulate more. He desires willing conduits through whom His gifts can flow to others and His Kingdom work can advance. When we recognize that everything we have comes from Him and exists for His glory, fear begins to loosen its grip.
Dr. Youssef explains that fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time. Jesus taught that worry exposes the places where we struggle to trust God. Yet because God is perfectly loving, faithful, just, and sovereign, His children can rest in His character even when circumstances feel uncertain.
Worry focuses on what might be lost. Contentment focuses on what can never be taken away: the presence of God, the promises of Christ, and the glory that awaits His people. As we lose ourselves in obedience and the proclamation of the Gospel, God offers a peace this world cannot manufacture—a peace that remains even in life’s fiercest storms.
Let us pray.
Lord Jesus, I know worry doesn’t add anything good to my life, so help me turn from fear and instead exercise faith. Fill me with Your peace. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
