[00:00:08] What is a Godly Friendship?
[00:00:10] by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:13] A godly friendship is a supportive relationship filled with mutual service and affection.
[00:00:18] Godly friends move away from self and toward loved ones.
[00:00:22] They seek their friends' welfare and find joy in the prosperity of their friends.
[00:00:27] Their sorrow is in their friends' misfortune and grief.
[00:00:31] Godly friends enjoy doing and enduring for each other.
[00:00:35] Jesus said, Greater love has no one than this to lay down one's life for one's friends.
[00:00:42] Godly friendships are self-sacrificing and life-transforming.
[00:00:47] The intimacy we long for is found in Christ and expressed through godly friendships.
[00:00:52] Jesus said to His disciples, I have called you friends for everything that I learn from
[00:00:57] my Father I have made known to you.
[00:00:59] A godly friend is given information that no one else has, building precious intimacy.
[00:01:06] Godly friendships are fruit-bearing.
[00:01:08] No one in the universe wants you to reach your potential more than God and He knows your greatest
[00:01:13] potential will be expressed through your love for others.
[00:01:17] Jesus loves you unconditionally and it is from a place of unconditional love that godly friendships
[00:01:23] are formed.
[00:01:24] As we grow in the qualities of a godly friend, we must keep our eyes fixed on Christ because
[00:01:30] He's the perfect model of a true friend.
[00:01:32] For in the greatest display of love, He gave His life for us.
[00:01:37] Just as God took the initiative in choosing us as His friends and in securing peace between
[00:01:43] us and God through His sacrifice, so too we must take the initiative to build friendships.
[00:01:49] Godly friends do not wait for the other person to need, to trust, or to love them.
[00:01:55] They step out by faith in love and service.
[00:01:59] Let's pray together.
[00:02:00] God, give us the courage to step out in faith, taking the initiative to build godly friendships.
[00:02:07] Help us to be a godly friend to those that you put in our lives.
[00:02:11] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
