[00:00:07] What happened on Palm Sunday by Dr. Michael Youssef?
[00:00:13] From the earliest days those who remembered God's promises anticipated a coming king.
[00:00:18] The Messiah promised way back in Genesis 315 who would crush the head of the enemy.
[00:00:24] Genesis 4910 reveals that the Scepter will never depart from his hand.
[00:00:29] According to 2 Samuel 713, his kingdom will last forever.
[00:00:33] In Psalm 2 he's anointed king by God the Father Himself.
[00:00:38] In Psalm 72 all other kings bow down before him.
[00:00:42] In Isaiah 2 he reigns in complete righteousness.
[00:00:45] In Daniel 2 his kingdom topples all others.
[00:00:49] In Zachariah 14 he is king over all the earth.
[00:00:54] While the Old Testament offered a rough sketch of the coming king,
[00:00:58] the New Testament reveals him clearly.
[00:01:01] Prophecy becomes history and Christ reigns announced for all who have ears to hear.
[00:01:07] Matthew refers to Jesus as king 14 times.
[00:01:11] Mark does so 6 times and Luke the point is made 5 times and in John another 14 times.
[00:01:19] The New Testament writers are not shy about revealing the king's supernatural nature either.
[00:01:24] The power of Jesus is unfilled display.
[00:01:27] They emphasize the universal scope of his reign and rule.
[00:01:32] And so on Palm Sunday, king Jesus was acclaimed.
[00:01:36] Those who were in the crowd that day had heard the Old Testament accounts
[00:01:40] and so they had been anticipating his coming.
[00:01:43] They had heard and many perhaps had seen with their own eyes the power of God at work through Jesus announcing his authority.
[00:01:51] As Jesus rode the foal of Adonky and Jerusalem, they celebrated him and they shouted,
[00:01:56] Hosanna which means save now.
[00:02:01] They did not know how the week would end.
[00:02:03] The crowd did not know that in order to save people Jesus would die on a Roman cross
[00:02:08] that his coronation would include not a crown of precious gyms but a crown of thorns.
[00:02:15] Not a rich robe of the finest fabric, but the faded robe of a Roman soldier draped over his bloodied torn back.
[00:02:23] Yet they praised him that day.
[00:02:25] In fact Jesus responded to the Pharisees who criticized him for receiving their praise.
[00:02:31] I tell you, if they keep quiet the stones will cry out.
[00:02:36] That's found in Luke 1940.
[00:02:38] They may not have truly understood the full plan of salvation but their praise was right and true.
[00:02:45] The promised Redeemer has come.
[00:02:48] The weight is over.
[00:02:49] Now is the time to welcome him.
[00:02:52] Let's pray together.
[00:02:53] Jesus we praise you as the one true king.
[00:02:57] May we never keep quiet about what you've done for us but share your gospel boldly with truth and grace.
[00:03:04] We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
