[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading
[00:00:06] The Way. Trust God at All Times by Dr. Michael Youssef. Toward the end of his life, David
[00:00:15] could look back and see things he couldn't always see in the moment. And so as a wise and weathered
[00:00:22] king, he shared some of this wisdom in the second half of Psalm 37. First, David was absolutely
[00:00:31] convinced God never forsakes his children. He writes, I was young and now I'm old, yet I have never seen
[00:00:40] the righteous forsaken. David knew this from personal experience. During his life he had lied, committed
[00:00:48] adultery and orchestrated murder. But he had also repented and enjoyed the Father's loving hand of
[00:00:56] restoration. There was no point in David's life, whether high or low, at which he was forsaken by God.
[00:01:03] Likewise, the steps of God's children, those who have received Jesus as Savior and Lord, are guided
[00:01:10] by God. Those who trust in God will never be disowned. They are held in his hand. They are his.
[00:01:20] Second, David was convinced God's will is always the best thing for his children. There were times in
[00:01:27] David's life when he must have questioned God's will, maybe when he was living in a cave or when he
[00:01:34] escaped to the land of the Philistines and pretended to be a madman. David knew that in difficult
[00:01:40] times we are tempted to think we know best. That's why he says, turn from evil and do good. He's talking
[00:01:49] about the evil of falsely accusing God of not caring, the evil of hardening our hearts toward God when
[00:01:55] he doesn't give us what we want. Rather than succumbing to such evil, we must trust God and his will
[00:02:03] for our lives, even when we don't understand. Finally, David was convinced that we honor God
[00:02:11] when we trust him, especially when we don't understand. The greatest honor you can bestow
[00:02:17] upon the Lord is to fully trust him, yes, even when he delays, even when he allows inexplicable
[00:02:25] things to happen, even when you suffer and the wicked prosper. Psalm 3740 says,
[00:02:33] The Lord delivers the righteous. Why? Because they take refuge in him. They trust in him. He is their
[00:02:41] stronghold in time of trouble. You might be thinking, Oh, but I messed up. I made big mistakes.
[00:02:48] I'm not righteous. If you've given your life to Jesus, you have his righteousness. All you need
[00:02:56] to do is trust in the Lord. Let's pray together. Lord, help us to trust you and to take refuge in you
[00:03:05] when we are troubled. May we remember that your love has unquestionably been made clear in the gift
[00:03:13] of Christ. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
