The Windows of Heaven Opened: May 1, 2024

But through the prophet Elisha, God announced that liberation was coming. In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef encourages us to develop spiritual eyes like Elisha's.

[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] The Way.

[00:00:08] The Windows of Heaven opened by Dr. Michael Youssef.

[00:00:14] We read in 2 Kings that the king of Syria was quite literally starving the people of

[00:00:19] Samaria to death by preventing them from accessing food in the fields and farms.

[00:00:26] But through the prophet Elisha, God announced that liberation was coming.

[00:00:31] Elisha proclaimed, This is what the Lord says, About this time tomorrow, A sea of the finest

[00:00:38] flower will sell for a shekel, And two seas of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.

[00:00:45] We read that in 2 Kings 7-1.

[00:00:48] This was a very specific prophecy.

[00:00:51] God was telling his people that even though food is scarce today and the price for any

[00:00:56] edible scrap is astronomical, relief is coming.

[00:01:01] Abundance will shortly return.

[00:01:04] Whenever God speaks there will be some who believe and some who laugh.

[00:01:09] The hard-hearted and the arrogant always mock the good news.

[00:01:14] The general of Israel's army couldn't believe what Elisha was telling him.

[00:01:18] He was sure that even if food began to fall out of the windows of heaven, there was simply

[00:01:22] no way things would return to normal that quickly.

[00:01:27] This general could see the vast armies of the Syrian king and his fellow Israelites begging

[00:01:33] and starving.

[00:01:34] He could see no reason to hope.

[00:01:37] On the other hand Elisha had faith that nothing is impossible for God so with spiritual

[00:01:42] eyes he could see the supernatural liberation that would come by the power of the faithful

[00:01:47] God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

[00:01:51] Of course God was so good at his word he caused the Syrians to hear the sounds of a great army

[00:01:57] racing to attack them and the aggressor became the hunted in a flash as the Syrians fled

[00:02:04] in fear.

[00:02:05] In fact they were so terrified that they did not waste time packing up their tents and

[00:02:10] supplies.

[00:02:11] When the Samaritans heard of the miraculous provision and victory there was a stampede

[00:02:16] into the Syrian encampment where people could finally find sustenance and the general who

[00:02:22] had mocked the Lord in his prophet was trampled.

[00:02:26] There is a day coming when those who have rejected the word of the Lord ignoring his

[00:02:31] invitation to eternal life will be judged.

[00:02:35] No one will escape.

[00:02:37] But for those who believe God's Word and trust in his supernatural power our salvation

[00:02:43] will be at hand.

[00:02:45] Let's pray together.

[00:02:46] Lord we know what You have said in Your Word will absolutely come to pass.

[00:02:52] Help us to have faith, to trust in Your timing and Your love and Your provision.

[00:02:58] May we develop thankfulness in all circumstances for You are our Savior, our fortress, our

[00:03:04] strong deliverer.

[00:03:06] We pray this in the name of Jesus.

[00:03:08] Amen.
