The Sacrifice: November 13, 2024

When Jesus cried out from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46), it was not Jesus’ imagination that the Father forsook Him, as some people teach. No, at that moment of separation, the sin of humanity rained on Jesus like a funnel cloud, so much so that Jesus experienced hell itself. In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us of the lengths to which Christ went to save us.

[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] the Way.

[00:00:08] The Sacrifice by Dr. Michael Youssef When Jesus cried out from the cross, My God,

[00:00:16] my God, why have you forsaken me?

[00:00:18] It was not Jesus' imagination that the Father forsook Him, as some people teach.

[00:00:24] No, at that moment of separation, the sin of humanity reigned on Jesus like a funnel

[00:00:31] cloud, and so much so that Jesus experienced hell Himself.

[00:00:36] This moment of desertion was the moment when our sin was heaped upon His holy, sinless body,

[00:00:43] and for the first time ever, Jesus looked up into heaven and saw His Father as a judge.

[00:00:50] That's why He did not call Him Abba.

[00:00:54] He called Him Eloi, my God.

[00:00:58] He saw God, the Sovereign, God the Judge, God the Awesome One.

[00:01:05] From cover to cover, the Bible tells us that on the cross, Jesus took upon Himself the judgment

[00:01:11] of everyone who would believe in Him, everyone who would follow Him, everyone who would obey

[00:01:18] Him.

[00:01:19] Every human being who has ever lived and will ever live is going to face the judgment of

[00:01:25] God.

[00:01:26] Those who will receive forgiveness are only those who have accepted the fact that Jesus

[00:01:31] took their judgment upon Himself in His body on the cross.

[00:01:35] Our Lord Jesus Christ not only bore our sin, He actually became sin.

[00:01:41] He was never a sinner, but He became sin so that He could save everyone who would come to Him and

[00:01:48] say, forgive me.

[00:01:50] He died in darkness so that we may live in light.

[00:01:54] He died in silence so that we may forever have a word from the Lord.

[00:01:59] He died forsaken so that we may be accepted.

[00:02:04] He died rejected so that we may be received.

[00:02:08] Take time to reflect on the sacrifice Christ made for your salvation.

[00:02:15] Let's pray together.

[00:02:17] Lord, thank you for bearing our sins on the cross.

[00:02:20] Thank you for your sacrifice.

[00:02:23] We pray this in the name of Jesus.

[00:02:26] Amen.
