[00:00:07] The Basis for Godly Relationships by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:13] Jesus encouraged His disciples, I no longer call you servants because a servant does not
[00:00:19] know his master's business.
[00:00:21] Instead, I have called you friends for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known
[00:00:26] to you.
[00:00:27] Think about this.
[00:00:28] If the God of glory shared His life with His friends, then who are we to refuse to do
[00:00:35] the same?
[00:00:36] When we share our lives, we can spur each other on in our walk with Christ.
[00:00:41] As we read in Scripture, as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
[00:00:47] Jesus exhorted, You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might
[00:00:53] go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that whatever you ask in my name the Father
[00:00:59] will give you.
[00:01:00] This is my command.
[00:01:02] Love each other.
[00:01:04] When Jesus called us friends, He chose us.
[00:01:07] Here, He calls us to do the same, to follow His example by loving one another.
[00:01:14] And armed with this kind of companionship, we can bear fruit together for the glory of God
[00:01:20] and the growth of His kingdom.
[00:01:21] If the greatest commandments center around love, then what does this love look like?
[00:01:28] In 1 John 3.16 we read,
[00:01:30] This is how we know what love is.
[00:01:32] Jesus Christ laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers
[00:01:38] and sisters.
[00:01:39] Scripture also says, Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one's life for one's
[00:01:47] friends.
[00:01:49] We must base our godly relationships on this kind of love, a love that gives.
[00:01:57] Let's pray together.
[00:01:58] God, thank you for your example of love.
[00:02:00] Help us to build our relationships on the love that you've shown to us.
[00:02:05] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
