[00:00:20] In 1 Kings 17, 7-16, we see how God operates on many fronts to both accomplish His purposes
[00:00:27] and bless us.
[00:00:28] One day, while Elijah was enjoying the restful protection of the Lord at the bottom of the
[00:00:34] Kerith Ravine, the brook dried up, and this time of being fed by ravens ended.
[00:00:42] The Lord told him to go to Zarephath, where a widow would feed him.
[00:00:47] This new direction from the Lord was strange on many levels.
[00:00:51] First, Zarephath was hard hit by famine.
[00:00:54] Second, it was the heart of Baal worship territory and only seven miles from Jezebel's home.
[00:01:02] Zarephath means smelt, and the city had a reputation for being a smelly, polluted place where iron
[00:01:11] was smelted.
[00:01:12] Elijah must have wondered why he was being asked to leave his comfortable hideout across 70 miles
[00:01:18] of desert to walk into an unpleasant and dangerous territory.
[00:01:23] But Elijah knew that if God had given him the order, he would provide for his needs.
[00:01:30] So he went to Zarephath.
[00:01:33] Let's pray together.
[00:01:35] Father, help us to trust you like Elijah and to obey your commands, even if they don't make
[00:01:42] sense to us and take us out of our comfort zones.
[00:01:46] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
