[00:00:08] Receiving Unmerited Favor of God by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:30] The kindness of David foreshadows God's grace when he sent his son to earth searching for
[00:00:34] lost sinners, just as God reaches out to undeserving, disobedient and rebellious people.
[00:00:41] David reached out to Mephubeshev, the grandson of a man who had hated and resented him with
[00:00:47] every fiber of his being.
[00:00:49] Likewise, we were once enemies of God, undeserving of his loving kindness.
[00:00:53] When David discovered that Jonathan's son, Saul's grandson, Mephubeshev, was living on
[00:01:01] the other side of the Jordan in a town called Lodibar, he jumped at the chance to show him
[00:01:08] mercy.
[00:01:09] He was a man in need of mercy, and when he was a small child, news of his father's and
[00:01:15] grandfather's death reached his home.
[00:01:17] In a panic, the nurse scooped him up and began running, unsure whether the boy would
[00:01:22] be safe at home.
[00:01:24] In her hurry she fell, and he became lame in both his feet.
[00:01:29] The disability is a picture of our spiritual condition before coming to Christ.
[00:01:34] The Bible actually says we were spiritually dead.
[00:01:38] By nature we were unable to run to God.
[00:01:40] We needed him to reach out in mercy to save us.
[00:01:44] He was from a family that rebelled against God's anointed.
[00:01:48] He could not walk because of a fall.
[00:01:50] He was dwelling in Lodibar, a barren land without hope, and yet King David himself sought
[00:01:56] him out to shower him with blessings.
[00:01:58] In the same way Paul tells us in Romans 3.24 that we are justified freely by his grace
[00:02:05] through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
[00:02:10] Without condition David restored all the land that belonged to his grandfather.
[00:02:14] He also gave the young man a seat at his table.
[00:02:17] In other words, David treated him like family.
[00:02:20] This is grace, undeserved favor.
[00:02:24] There was nothing he had done or could have done to earn David's kindness.
[00:02:28] David lashed blessings upon him because of Jonathan.
[00:02:32] Friend, God shows us grace because of Jesus.
[00:02:36] May we too so understand the magnificent grace we've received that we freely extend
[00:02:41] God's heavenly grace and loving kindness just as David did.
[00:02:46] Let's pray together.
[00:02:47] Father, thank you for your incredible grace extended to us.
[00:02:52] May our hearts continue to be molded by your love for us.
[00:02:57] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:59] Amen.
