For many in the church today, godliness appears more like an optional advanced study course than the core curriculum of following after Jesus. Scripture tells us nothing can be further from the Truth. In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us that God wants His people to grow in godliness.

[00:00:00] You are listening to MY Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading The Way. Pursuing Godliness in a Godless World by Dr. Michael Youssef In his letter to Titus, Paul outlined for his protege, the importance of Godliness in the Christian life.
[00:00:21] But for many in the Church today, Godliness appears more like an optional advanced study course than the core curriculum of following after Jesus. Scripture tells us nothing can be further from the truth.
[00:00:34] Every day we are fed messages from the world, most of us would rather not admit how much were influenced by secular media and pop culture. We can often quote more television catchphrases than Scripture verses, and our children make role models out of celebrities then godly leaders.
[00:00:53] Paul warns us, do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
[00:01:08] When we conform to this world, we begin accepting the belief that whatever the majority is doing, saying or thinking must be right. A secularism creeps into our thinking, we become more self-focused and self-centered. We become overly concerned with personal happiness.
[00:01:27] Our prayers no longer seek God's will but our own desires. But you and I were saved from God's wrath for a purpose to become more like our Savior. Jesus told us disciples in John 15, I am the true vine and my father is the Gardener.
[00:01:46] He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it can be even more fruitful. Our lives in Christ are intended to bear godly fruit.
[00:02:00] The work of pursuing Godliness is rigorous and we can't do it alone. Trust in the Lord who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Study His Word, pray continually.
[00:02:15] God wants you to succeed in your pursuit of godliness, and He will not let you down. Let's pray together. God help us to not be conformed to this world. Give us the strength to pursue godliness, and to follow your purpose for our lives.
[00:02:32] We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen. To take a deeper dive into today's devotional topic, check the shown notes for links to additional resources. And while you're there, subscribe to the My Devotional Podcast so you never miss an episode.
