Praising the Rock of My Salvation: September 8, 2024

David felt the same emotions you may be feeling today—loneliness, despair, and fear. However, even though he struggled occasionally to trust God (see 1 Samuel 27:1), David longed to please the Lord deep down. He had a heart after God’s heart. And the God who sees into the depths of your heart and mind is the one who will honor you for that desire—a desire clearly displayed in David’s sacred song in 2 Samuel 22. bIn today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef examines David’s sacred song that carried him through the ups and downs of life.

[00:00:06] The Way.

[00:00:08] Praising the Rock of My Salvation by Dr. Michael Youssef

[00:00:13] David felt the same emotions you may be feeling today—loneliness, despair and fear.

[00:00:19] But even though he struggled occasionally to trust God, deep down David longed to please

[00:00:24] the Lord.

[00:00:25] He had a heart after God's heart, and the God who sees into the depths of your heart and

[00:00:30] mind is the one who will honor you for that desire—a desire displayed in David's sacred

[00:00:36] song in 2 Samuel 22.

[00:00:39] He wrote, The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.

[00:00:44] My God is my rock, and whom I take refuge.

[00:00:48] Over the years David discovered that no matter the situation, the Lord never stopped

[00:00:53] watching over him, never refused to restore him.

[00:00:56] The same can be said for you.

[00:00:59] During the difficult times of life, the Lord's wings are sheltering you.

[00:01:03] If you know the Lord Jesus Christ, His Spirit is within you to empower you and strengthen

[00:01:09] you.

[00:01:10] Did you notice how David referred to God as my rock, my fortress and my deliverer?

[00:01:15] He knew the Lord personally.

[00:01:18] David knew the Lord's heart, and the Lord knew His.

[00:01:21] Friend, you are not merely a number to God.

[00:01:25] He knows the very hairs on your head, and He's designed you for an intimate, personal

[00:01:31] relationship with Him.

[00:01:33] As your rock, God will steady you in the midst of life's earthquakes.

[00:01:38] He will anchor you when storms threaten to blow you away.

[00:01:41] As your fortress, God will give you shelter from your assailants.

[00:01:45] He will blunt the attacks of your enemies.

[00:01:47] He will hide you from those who seek to do you harm.

[00:01:52] As your deliverer, God will save you from yourself.

[00:01:56] He redeems you from the raging power of sin.

[00:01:59] He saves you from the roaring lion, and He will save you from the second death.

[00:02:05] David prophesied about the coming of Jesus, and today we have him.

[00:02:09] Jesus is the provider of everything we need, and what we need most is Him.

[00:02:14] He is the Savior who has secured our salvation, a gift of immeasurable grace.

[00:02:20] And that's why with David we can lift our voices and proclaim,

[00:02:24] I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise and have been saved from my enemies.

[00:02:31] Let's pray together.

[00:02:32] Father, you are our rock, our fortress, our deliverer.

[00:02:36] We run to You, find shelter from the storms of life.

[00:02:40] We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
