[00:00:06] The Way.

[00:00:08] Praising God Through Generosity by Dr. Michael Youssef

[00:00:13] Andrew Carnegie's wife was so fond of classical music that at the end of every year she insisted

[00:00:18] that Andrew pay any outstanding debts incurred by the New York Philharmonic Symphony. Finally,

[00:00:26] Andrew became weary and faced the Symphony Board of Directors with this challenge.

[00:00:31] I can't keep doing this year in and year out. You need to go out and raise half the money needed

[00:00:36] and then I'll give the other half. Within a few days, the board members called him with good news.

[00:00:41] Mr. Carnegie, we have met your request. We have half the money we need. Carnegie was pleased,

[00:00:47] applauded their efforts, and said he would fulfill his end of the agreement. Before he hung up the

[00:00:52] telephone, he asked, Where'd you get the other half? There was a pause, and then the answer, Mrs. Carnegie.

[00:01:00] Some people have a spirit of generosity, and that generosity is the fuel that keeps them going each

[00:01:06] day. In Luke, Jesus reminds us of a simple yet basic truth. Give and it will be given to you. A good

[00:01:13] measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, it will be pouring into your lap. For with the

[00:01:18] measure you use, it will be measured to you. That's Luke 6 38. If we're stingy and withhold our tithes

[00:01:28] meant to fuel God's work in the world, then we can expect the same in return. When you do give,

[00:01:35] make sure that you are motivated by God and not by guilt or a desire to somehow repay God for your

[00:01:42] salvation, a self-righteous, foolish, and impossible endeavor. Rather, let your motivation be to praise,

[00:01:49] worship, and honor God. For no price tag can be placed on Christ's death on the cross. It was there

[00:01:55] that God gave us his greatest gift, salvation through his Son. Therefore, ask God to teach you how to give

[00:02:02] generously as it was given to you. Let's pray together. Lord, you are our example of generosity.

[00:02:10] Show us how to be cheerful givers. May our giving honor you and bless others. We pray this in the

[00:02:17] name of Jesus. Amen. If you enjoy listening to the My Devotional Podcast, would you consider
