[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading
[00:00:06] the Way. Praise Through Giving by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:13] A group of Christians approached another believer about making a major contribution to a particular
[00:00:19] campaign. They did not know that this man had a serious problem with giving. He found it
[00:00:25] difficult to praise God with the money the Lord had given to him. After this group of
[00:00:29] men told him the need and challenged him to give a certain amount, he responded, I understand
[00:00:35] why you think I can give this large sum of money. I own a large company, but there's something
[00:00:39] you do not know. My mother is in an expensive nursing home. My brother, who had no insurance,
[00:00:47] died and left a wife with five children. My son is deeply religious and he's working with
[00:00:53] the poor and makes less than the national poverty level. The men humbly said they did not know
[00:01:00] any of this. Well then, the man said, you also need to know that I have not given them
[00:01:05] a penny. Why would you think I would give it to your project? Only God can soften the hardened
[00:01:12] heart of the person who refuses to give to others. After reading this account, the image that comes
[00:01:18] to mind is one of a bitter person void of true peace and contentment. Praise and giving go beautifully
[00:01:24] together because both honor the Lord. They also teach us to set our heart's devotion on God and not
[00:01:31] on ourselves. Sacrificial giving outlines the path to blessing. In his commentary on Psalm 34,
[00:01:39] Charles Spurgeon declared, to bless the Lord is never unseasonable. Our thankfulness is not to be
[00:01:46] a dumb thing. It should be one of the daughters of music. Our tongue is our glory and it ought to reveal
[00:01:52] the glory of God. What a blessed mouthful is God's praise. Let's pray together. God, no matter how generous
[00:02:00] we may be, you are always infinitely more generous. May our giving honor you and testify to your kindness.
[00:02:09] We ask that you soften our hearts that we would not withhold anything from you. We pray this in the
[00:02:15] name of Jesus. Amen. If today's devotional encouraged you, we'd love to hear about it.
