[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_00]: the Way.

[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Praise, The Ultimate Cure for Pride by Dr. Michael Youssef.

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Pride asks, How do others perceive me?

[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And what impression am I making on other people?

[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_01]: When there's pride in our lives, it makes us self-conscious.

[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Pride wants to be praised.

[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_01]: While we all need encouragement, only God deserves praise.

[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Pride can blind us to any feeling of gratitude toward the Lord.

[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Unchecked, it will ultimately separate us from God and those we love.

[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_01]: The only cure for pride is surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ, committing to Him and then

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_01]: letting the Spirit of God work in our lives daily.

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_01]: After David was anointed king over Israel, he and his men brought the Ark of God back

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_01]: to Jerusalem.

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_01]: You can see that in 1 Chronicles 15.

[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_01]: David appointed musicians and singers, and the Ark of God entered the city with shouts,

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_01]: trumpets, and harps playing.

[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: David exuberantly and excitedly removed his royal robe and began dancing before the Lord.

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_01]: However, his wife watched and later criticized David's actions.

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: She was proud and thought David's actions were not kingly.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Placing undue importance on our self-image and the opinions of others are just two of the distractions

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: that Satan uses to discourage us.

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: However, God wants us to have a healthy self-image based on His unconditional love for us.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Once we accept Christ as our Savior, we become children of the King of Kings and are made members

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: of His royal family.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Praise frees you from the hold of pride.

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: David was not concerned about his image.

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He was praising God.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He was focused on the Lord, not himself.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you concerned about your appearance before others?

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't withhold your worship of the Lord because of fear of what others will think.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's pray together.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Holy Father, we want to be satisfied in you that we do not need the praise of others.

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So today, we humble ourselves before you that you may receive glory, honor, and worship from

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: us.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: We pray this in the name of Jesus.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Amen.
