[00:00:12] In Romans 8 through 9, Paul unpacks the concept of election, how God in His sovereignty has
[00:00:20] predestined believers to be saved since before the foundation of the world.
[00:00:25] Then in Romans 10, Paul begins to explain how all of humanity is responsible for responding
[00:00:31] in faith to God's offer of grace.
[00:00:35] Do not be deceived.
[00:00:37] Paul is not contradicting himself.
[00:00:40] Man is responsible and God is sovereign.
[00:00:44] When it comes to salvation, no one has an excuse for not accepting God's gift of forgiveness.
[00:00:50] The full responsibility of rejecting God in His only means of salvation, namely the Lord
[00:00:55] Jesus Christ, rests squarely on the shoulders of the One who has done the rejection.
[00:01:02] In Romans 10, Paul makes this point clear five times, placing the full responsibility
[00:01:08] for rejecting Jesus at the feet of those who have rejected Him.
[00:01:12] In fact, the concluding verse of this chapter is a poignant plea on the part of God to
[00:01:17] a hard-hearted people, all day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate
[00:01:25] people.
[00:01:27] If a person dies without Christ, it is not because he was not elected or predestined,
[00:01:34] but because he or she has rejected God's loving invitation to forgiveness and eternal
[00:01:40] life.
[00:01:41] How depraved we are to refuse such a love!
[00:01:44] How wondrous the grace of God to offer it to us!
[00:01:49] May these truths compel us to live humbly before our awesome God!
[00:01:55] Let's pray together.
[00:01:56] Father, how wondrous your offer of salvation!
[00:02:00] Help us to grasp how wide and how long and how high and how deep is your love!
[00:02:07] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
