[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_00]: When Daniel and his friends were sent to Babylon as captives, their new environment was
[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: vastly different from everything they had ever known.
[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Even their names were forcibly changed to reflect the pagan culture.
[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_00]: They were about to be indoctrinated into Babylonian culture and forced to worship false gods.
[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It would have been easy for them to succumb to these pressures and to let themselves be
[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: changed internally.
[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: However, Daniel and his friends knew that their identity came from God, not their circumstances,
[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_00]: names, or assigned place in society.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Even though their trials happened thousands of years ago, they are not much different from
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: what we face in our society today.
[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Every day, our faith is tested.
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: We're fed lies about our source of identity and self-esteem and pushed toward pagan belief
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: systems and behaviors.
[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Society tempts us with success and luxury.
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The media shows us glitz and glamour.
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And our neighbors expect us to be more and more tolerant of their sins.
[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So how are we to maintain our identity in such an overbearing society?
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: As Daniel shows us, the key to maintaining our identity in the midst of temptation is focusing
[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: on God, not our circumstances.
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: We must remember that our identity comes from who God says we are.
[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And if we have accepted Christ as our Savior, then we are God's children in Christ.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that through Jesus, we are righteous.
[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We did not earn our salvation.
[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that we're forgiven and can live daily with a clean slate.
[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: We know we have eternal life no matter what trials we face.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: They cannot take away our home in heaven.
[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that within us lives the Holy Spirit who guides us through the most challenging circumstances.
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that God loves us and we are forever a part of his kingdom.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's pray together.
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Father, we thank you that we are your children forever part of your kingdom.
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Help us to stay focused on you, to rejoice in our identity in you.
