[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading
[00:00:06] the Way.
[00:00:08] Lessons on Prayer by Dr. Michael Youssef Yesterday we read about some of the things we
[00:00:14] can learn from Elijah about prayer.
[00:00:17] Today we will look at three more principles we can learn from Elijah's prayer life.
[00:00:22] Number four, Elijah prayed specifically.
[00:00:25] In 1 Kings 18 we see the boldness of Elijah's public prayers asking God to start and stop
[00:00:32] the rain.
[00:00:33] Fifth, Elijah's prayers about rain demonstrate that we should pray expectantly.
[00:00:39] Elijah would have been surprised if God had not answered his prayer.
[00:00:43] Many Christians are surprised when God does answer prayer.
[00:00:47] Finally, Elijah had a place where he met with God daily to pray.
[00:00:52] Elijah took the lifeless body of a young man upstairs to his chamber for prayer.
[00:00:58] He knew God had met him there many times before and would again.
[00:01:04] If you meet with God in a certain place during times of blessings, you will more surely go there
[00:01:10] when life's storms assail you and you will find strength.
[00:01:15] You do not need to have an entire room or any accessories.
[00:01:18] Just a spot that you know is where you have a meeting place each day with the Lord.
[00:01:25] He will not fail to show up.
[00:01:28] Although the prayer Elijah prayed was not a perfect prayer, God in his mercy and grace honored
[00:01:34] it and gave life to the widow's son.
[00:01:37] James 5 16 says, the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
[00:01:45] Elijah's righteousness like ours was from the Lord.
[00:01:48] His prayer life was empowered by following principles that allowed God to work out his
[00:01:54] difficulties and grant his requests.
[00:01:57] Let's pray together.
[00:01:59] Father, help us to pray as effectively as Elijah.
[00:02:02] Help us to pray specifically and expectantly.
[00:02:05] Help us to find and make a place where we can quietly meet with you and pray every day.
[00:02:11] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:14] Amen.
