[00:00:08] In the Name of God by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:11] There was a day when a person's name meant everything, more than all the money and prestige
[00:00:16] in the world.
[00:00:17] The Bible tells us that names are sometimes changed because they have incredible meaning
[00:00:22] and importance.
[00:00:23] These name changes indicate a new identity and signaled a new calling of God.
[00:00:28] As we mentioned yesterday, God changed Abraham's name from Abram, meaning the father is exalted,
[00:00:35] to Abraham, which means the father of a multitude.
[00:00:38] But there was another reason God made the change.
[00:00:42] Abraham's parents probably were worshippers of the moon cult of Ur.
[00:00:47] They named their son Abram, suggesting that his name may have represented a moon god or
[00:00:53] another pagan deity.
[00:00:55] God wanted Abraham to have a name that reflected his plan for his life and a clear break from
[00:01:01] his old pagan lifestyle.
[00:01:03] When you worship God, consider his names and how each one applies to your life.
[00:01:09] Understanding God's names will tremendously impact your worship and personal devotion to
[00:01:15] the Lord.
[00:01:15] Here are a few of the Old Testament names for God.
[00:01:20] Elohim, Majestic Lord.
[00:01:23] El Shaddai, All-Powerful, All-Sufficient, Transcendent, Sovereign God.
[00:01:30] Yahweh, the proper name for God, which means Self-Existing One.
[00:01:36] I am.
[00:01:38] I am.
[00:01:39] Yahweh Nisi, our banner.
[00:01:41] Yahweh Rafa, our healer.
[00:01:44] Yahweh Roi, our shepherd.
[00:01:47] Yahweh Jireh, our provider.
[00:01:51] Yahweh Shalom, our peace.
[00:01:54] Adonai, Master, Ruler, Lord.
[00:01:58] Abba, our Father, who intimately cares.
[00:02:02] As you spend time worshiping the Lord, remember that God's names reflect his attributes in nature.
[00:02:08] He is your peace, provider, healer, shepherd, Lord, and eternal Savior.
[00:02:14] Let's pray together.
[00:02:16] Lord, today we worship you not just for what you have done, but for who you are.
[00:02:22] Help us to know and worship you more as we reflect on your names.
[00:02:26] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
