[00:00:13] In the Bible we see great value placed on names and several instances of God giving a new name
[00:00:19] to His people along with a new life or mission.
[00:00:22] Sari became Sarah, Abram became Abraham, Jacob became Israel, Simon became Peter, and Saul
[00:00:32] became Paul.
[00:00:34] God chose the name Jesus for His Son and sent the angel Gabriel to explain the significance
[00:00:40] of this all-important name.
[00:00:43] In Matthew 1.21, God tells Joseph, You are to give him the name Jesus because He will save
[00:00:50] His people from their sins.
[00:00:53] God knew that 2,000 years later people would call Jesus a Savior and not the Savior.
[00:00:59] For this very reason God defined His name and mission clearly, setting Him apart from the
[00:01:05] prophets before Him and the founders of all other religions.
[00:01:09] Today many people do not feel like they need salvation because they think their sins are nominal.
[00:01:14] But every one of the more than 8.2 billion people living today was born with sin.
[00:01:22] We can only be freed from the bondage of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.
[00:01:28] At Christmas, we celebrate the Savior's birth.
[00:01:31] The perfect, sinless Son of God came from heaven, lived a perfect life in the face of the
[00:01:37] same temptations we face, and died on the cross.
[00:01:40] He shed His blood, rose again on the third day to prove His power over death and sin.
[00:01:47] And through faith in His finished work, we can experience everlasting life that starts today
[00:01:53] and continues through eternity.
[00:01:56] When you say, Merry Christmas, what do you mean?
[00:02:00] Have you completely surrendered every part of your life to God?
[00:02:04] Have you acknowledged your sin and called on the reliable name of Jesus who came to save
[00:02:10] you from all your sins?
[00:02:12] Ask for His empowerment in His name as you surrender everything.
[00:02:18] Let's pray together.
[00:02:20] Heavenly Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Christ that has brought us life.
[00:02:25] Give us the strength to surrender all to You today.
[00:02:28] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
