[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] The Way.

[00:00:08] God's Mercy by Dr. Michael Youssef

[00:00:12] At the beginning of Romans 9, Paul begins to reflect on the fact that his kinsmen, the

[00:00:17] Jews, are rejecting their Messiah.

[00:00:20] As he considers the judgment they will face, he cries out in anguish, I would do anything

[00:00:24] for them to come to know Jesus.

[00:00:26] I would even give up my own salvation.

[00:00:29] In Romans 9, verses 6-13, Paul makes it clear that though many Israelites have rejected Jesus,

[00:00:37] God's sovereign will never fails.

[00:00:41] It is not the children by physical descent who are God's children, but it is the children

[00:00:45] of the promise who were regarded as Abraham's offspring.

[00:00:49] Paul explains meaning those who have faith in God and his Messiah are the true people

[00:00:55] of God, the true Israel.

[00:00:56] Likewise, today God's salvation is promised not to those who simply attend church, but

[00:01:02] those who trust in Jesus Christ.

[00:01:05] Grappling with why, in God's sovereignty, some of physical Israel should reject their

[00:01:11] Savior.

[00:01:11] Paul recognizes God is not obligated to save anyone.

[00:01:15] Though humanity questions God's actions asking, Is it fair?

[00:01:20] Paul brings us back to reality.

[00:01:22] The question is not whether God is fair.

[00:01:24] The question is, why does he have mercy on sinners at all?

[00:01:30] God owes humanity nothing except judgment, for all have sinned.

[00:01:36] But in his merciful sovereign will he's chosen to save the undeserving.

[00:01:42] Therefore, let us rejoice in his mercy and humbly plead with him for the lost, for

[00:01:47] our God is the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love

[00:01:56] and faithfulness.

[00:01:58] Exodus 34.6

[00:02:00] Let's pray together.

[00:02:03] God you are a gracious, merciful God.

[00:02:06] Help us to see and experience the depth of your love for us, the wonder of Christ's

[00:02:12] sacrifice for the undeserving.

[00:02:15] We pray this in the name of Jesus.

[00:02:17] Amen.
