[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Why would anyone reject Christ's loving invitation for eternal salvation?
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Romans 10 gives us four reasons.
[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: First, people reject Jesus out of a misguided religious zeal.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Some people's own zeal, whether for legalism or false religion,
[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: is what blinds them to their need for Christ. Like Paul in the days when he persecuted Christians,
[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: many people have good intentions, but good intentions without truth prove deadly.
[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Second, people reject Jesus due to their misdirected efforts. In many ways, it's the simplicity
[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: of the gospel that causes people to stumble. If you give them a complicated formula, they will
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: follow it, eager to justify themselves by their great works. But the gospel is simple—repent,
[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: confess Christ, and believe that heroes from the dead for no one can earn salvation.
[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The gospel both seems too easy and grates against man's pride.
[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Third, people reject Jesus because of a deliberate mishearing of the message.
[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Some do not receive the truth simply because they do not want to hear it. Their hearts are
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: so hardened that even the gospel of life reeks of death to them.
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Finally, people reject Jesus out of sheer stubbornness. With open arms, God pleads with
[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: all humanity to repent. But instead of responding to his invitation of mercy,
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: many choose to remain disobedient, preferring to go their own way rather than to submit to God.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: On the day of judgment, no one will be able to say,
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I did not know, I wasn't predestined. All will be without excuse.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: There are sinful reasons for rejecting Christ, laid bare.
[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's pray together. Lord, we know you are a just God and we marvel at the forgiveness you offer.
[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: May we share such a precious gift and promise with those you put in our path that they might
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: repent and choose life in you. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
