[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] the Way. Elijah's Obedience by Dr. Michael Youssef

[00:00:13] No matter how small or insignificant we feel at times, God can turn our resources and

[00:00:18] talents into something substantial for His glory. When Elijah's water source in the Kareth

[00:00:24] ravine dried up, God sent him to the pagan and potentially hostile city of Zarephath.

[00:00:31] Even if the plan didn't make sense to Elijah, he trusted God's sovereignty.

[00:00:38] During that time, God gave Elijah the opportunity to minister to a Phoenician

[00:00:43] widow and her son. When Elijah first approached the widow at the city gates,

[00:00:48] he asked her for water and bread, just as the Lord instructed him to do. As surely as

[00:00:54] the Lord your God lives, she replied, I don't have any bread, only a handful of flour in

[00:00:59] a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make

[00:01:04] a meal for myself and my son that we may eat it and die." You can read that in 1 Kings 17,

[00:01:11] 12. Elijah could have responded that he would not impose on the poverty-stricken widow. He

[00:01:19] could have asked God for better accommodations. He could have complained that the widow was not only

[00:01:25] poor but also a pagan Gentile. Instead, Elijah followed God's commands and believed and trusted

[00:01:33] God's promise that the jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until

[00:01:40] the day of the Lord sends rain on the land. God had already told Elijah about the widow,

[00:01:47] and Elijah knew that if she was to be part of God's plan, then God was preparing her heart as well.

[00:01:54] Elijah understood that when God makes a plan, he also makes a way for it to happen. Therefore,

[00:02:01] Elijah did not worry about the details or the danger he was in or the grumbling in his stomach.

[00:02:07] God told him to go to the widow, and Elijah obeyed. The Lord took Elijah's faith and the widow's

[00:02:16] paltry resources and transformed them into big blessings. Let's pray together. God, help us to

[00:02:24] respond in obedience like Elijah. Thank you that you are able to take what we have and transform it

[00:02:32] into something greater. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
