However, to truly honor God and place Him in high esteem over everything else, He must be at the center of your affections. In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef encourages us to consider our motivations for service.

[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] The Way.

[00:00:08] Champions Victoriously Honor God by Dr. Michael Youssef

[00:00:13] In the New Testament, Jesus made it clear that we have to make a choice.

[00:00:18] Either we will serve God or we will serve something else.

[00:00:22] You can dedicate your life to living for the Lord or you can spend your life living

[00:00:26] for yourself.

[00:00:28] However, to truly honor God in a way that places Him in high esteem over everything else, He

[00:00:34] must be the center of your affections.

[00:00:37] Many people do good works.

[00:00:40] Some non-believers even do more good works than Christians.

[00:00:44] Yet, a look at the heart reveals their true motivation, whether their deeds are truly

[00:00:49] done for themselves or for the people they're serving.

[00:00:53] Some Christians are doing good works out of guilt or obligation, as opposed to the purest

[00:00:59] reason—love for God.

[00:01:01] To honor God is to serve Him out of our strong desire to see His name exalted, not our own.

[00:01:08] If we're doing something in order to earn recognition, is God at the center of our

[00:01:13] motivation?

[00:01:14] If no one would ever know what we did, would we still do it?

[00:01:18] Do we serve others because we love God so much that we want to be the hands and feet of Christ

[00:01:23] to our dying world?

[00:01:25] Or do we serve others because it will get us noticed and recognized as great humanitarians

[00:01:31] by our friends and communities?

[00:01:34] Is our service self-serving?

[00:01:37] God knows our hearts, and He knows if our lives are honoring Him or honoring ourselves.

[00:01:44] As believers who desire to honor Him, we must endeavor to put Him at the center of all we do.

[00:01:52] All our decisions, all our thoughts, all our actions—they must be centered on God.

[00:02:00] Let's pray.

[00:02:02] Lord, help us to place You at the center of our lives in everything that we do.

[00:02:08] We pray this in the name of Jesus.

[00:02:11] Amen.

[00:02:12] Do you know where to turn in brokenness?

[00:02:15] Have you exchanged self-reliance for absolute trust in the living God?

[00:02:20] In a heart for God, lessons from the life of David, Dr. Michael Yusef takes you on a journey

[00:02:27] through the highs and the lows of David's life.

[00:02:30] As you explore his greatest victories and deepest failures in first and second Samuel,

[00:02:35] you'll see God's faithfulness to use willing vessels for His glory.
