[00:00:07] Champions Put God First by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:12] From the first moment we step into church, we're taught to put God first in our lives.
[00:00:18] Yet are we really doing this?
[00:00:21] Does He own first place in our hearts all the time or simply when it's convenient?
[00:00:27] It's easy to proclaim that we have placed the Lord first.
[00:00:30] However, the true test comes when life throws us an unexpected curve.
[00:00:36] This is when we discover if what we say with our mouths is really true in our hearts.
[00:00:43] Authentic humility and love aspires to put God before everything else no matter what
[00:00:49] the price may be.
[00:00:50] It might cost us our dreams.
[00:00:52] It might cost us our jobs.
[00:00:54] It might cost us status in society.
[00:00:58] But the cost of failing to put God first is far more astronomical.
[00:01:04] David's heart was one finely attuned to God's love and affection.
[00:01:08] When he received the disappointing answer to his request to build the temple, David's
[00:01:13] love did not collapse.
[00:01:15] Instead, he was inspired to a deeper sense of worship and love for God.
[00:01:20] In 1 Chronicles 17 we see David's humble heart before God and his zeal to glorify the
[00:01:27] name of the Lord.
[00:01:28] Though David's plans were rejected by God, the Lord would not use David a man of war
[00:01:34] as the principal architect of his temple upon receiving God's word from the prophet Nathan.
[00:01:40] King David went in and sat before the Lord.
[00:01:44] That's in verse 16.
[00:01:45] David praised the Lord for his perfect plan, odd that he would allow him input into the design
[00:01:52] and construction of the temple.
[00:01:55] For David building the temple was all about honoring God, not going down in history as
[00:02:00] the king who built it.
[00:02:02] As believers with the amazing privilege of advancing God's kingdom, we must make sure
[00:02:08] our motives are solely to see his name glorified.
[00:02:12] That's how we put him first.
[00:02:15] Let's pray.
[00:02:17] Lord, we praise You for Your great love that the Almighty God would make a way to redeem
[00:02:24] a wicked people is astonishing and humbling.
[00:02:28] Use us for Your glory, Father, and help us to put You first in all that we do.
[00:02:35] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:37] Amen.
