[00:00:08] Champions Pray in the Dark by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:13] The true test of our character is not measured by the actions we take nor the attitudes
[00:00:18] we present when we're on stage with the spotlight shining on us.
[00:00:22] The true test of our character is measured when no one is watching but God.
[00:00:28] Many people make the mistake of wearing their spiritual maturity on their sleeves, but God
[00:00:33] is not impressed with how many Bible verses we know nor how many Sunday school lessons
[00:00:38] we teach.
[00:00:40] In fact, nothing we do can impress God.
[00:00:44] What God desires from us more than anything is a relationship.
[00:00:49] He designed us for this.
[00:00:51] We function best when we have others around us supporting us and challenging us to grow
[00:00:55] in our relationship with Him.
[00:00:58] And no relationship can thrive without communication.
[00:01:02] In 1 Samuel 22 we find David tucked away in a cave in the mountains hiding from King
[00:01:08] Saul and his army.
[00:01:10] Day after day he fled through the mountains to avoid Saul's sword.
[00:01:14] And after days of running, David discovered an important truth.
[00:01:19] Only God could save him.
[00:01:21] No matter how clever he was in escaping Saul's clutches, he began to understand that true salvation
[00:01:28] comes only from God.
[00:01:30] As a result of David's understanding of this principle, he spent those dark nights in the
[00:01:35] mountain caves praying to God.
[00:01:37] He understood that in order to be used by God in the light, true champions pray in
[00:01:43] the dark.
[00:01:44] It's in the dark that God brings to light His promises.
[00:01:48] It's also in the dark that He gives us the peace and assurance we need to endure difficulty
[00:01:53] and heartache.
[00:01:55] If we desire to be true champions, we must boldly pray to God no matter how dire our
[00:02:01] situation appears.
[00:02:02] We must spend time with Him in prayer, submitting to Him and trusting Him.
[00:02:07] It is what He wants us to do.
[00:02:11] Let's pray together.
[00:02:12] Lord, we trust Your will for our lives.
[00:02:15] Grow our faith as we pray in the dark so that we may be used for Your glory in the light.
[00:02:23] We know You are our salvation.
[00:02:25] Your presence is our comfort and reward.
[00:02:29] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:32] Amen.
