[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Champions Know How to Repent by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_01]: God hates sin.
[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_01]: He has made this clear to His children in His Word.
[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And He's equipped us with Scripture and His Spirit so that we could recognize sin
[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_01]: in our lives and wage war against it.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yet despite all of this we can still fall into Satan's traps,
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: leading us to stumble in our pursuit of righteousness.
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_01]: When this happens, how should we respond to our failure so that God is honored
[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and that we're able to break free of sin's grasp?
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: All too often we simply want to be pardoned from our sin.
[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_01]: The thought of repenting is almost foreign to us.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_01]: To repent means to stop what we're doing and to go in the opposite direction.
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: However, most of the time we want a simple dismissal of our actions and a warning not to
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: commit them again.
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But true repentance means that we recognize that we have sinned and that we've offended
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: the heart of God, and true repentance causes us to come clean and desire wholeness again.
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: David discovered that grieving God's heart was painful, therefore simply saying,
[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I am sorry, would not do.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_01]: He approached God with true humility and brokenness that showed his heart was in the right place.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Later, David wrote in Psalm 51,
[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, you God, will not despise.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Whenever we come before God with a heart that is contrite,
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: sincerely sorry for what we did wrong and longing to change our ways,
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_01]: God is moved.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He sees that we recognize what we did was wrong and that we want to be pure again.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: True repentance means we love God more than we love our sin.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_01]: When we run back to Him as prodigal children, He opens His arms and He welcomes us with His
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_01]: unending grace.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's pray together.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Lord instill in us a heart of repentance that returns to you when we realize that we've
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_01]: sinned.
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Amen.
