[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading
[00:00:06] The Way.
[00:00:08] Champions Have Courage, Not Contempt by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:14] Whenever we experience any level of success in life, it is tempting to revel in our own
[00:00:20] glory, soaking in praise as if we were the sole reason for our success.
[00:00:26] Undoubtedly, David faced that same temptation.
[00:00:29] Yet because of where his faith rested, he never yielded to these urges.
[00:00:35] As a young man, David was anointed to become the next king of Israel by the prophet Samuel.
[00:00:41] You would think that hearing such a prophecy and then receiving an anointing to affirm God's
[00:00:46] call would be enough to drive David to go out and make it a reality.
[00:00:51] David reacted differently.
[00:00:53] Instead of marching up to the palace gates and telling Saul that his days as king were
[00:00:58] over, David decided to act as a true champion.
[00:01:02] He let God fulfill the calling on his life by placing him in the right place at the
[00:01:07] right time.
[00:01:09] David was a courageous young man, facing many fears with great resolve.
[00:01:14] Yet he never took his courage too far, and he never challenged God's timing.
[00:01:20] So often in life we proceed ahead of the Lord whenever we get a whiff of success, but God
[00:01:26] often uses a delay in timing to prepare our hearts and minds for what he desires to do
[00:01:32] through us.
[00:01:33] Despite his bold and courageous demeanor, David never usurped God's timing.
[00:01:40] He fully trusted God, which is why David experienced the level of success that he did.
[00:01:45] He knew the Lord was the source of his every victory.
[00:01:49] So instead of trying to venture into challenging places alone, David waited for God's timing.
[00:01:56] To be truly courageous in God's kingdom, we must be servants willing to wait on him.
[00:02:04] Let's pray together.
[00:02:05] Lord, instill in us the patience necessary to wait upon you to fulfill your calling on
[00:02:13] our lives.
[00:02:15] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:02:17] Amen.
