[00:00:08] Bringing Our Disappointments to God by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:14] David couldn't stand to think that while he was living in a palace, the Ark of God was outside in a tent.
[00:00:21] He wanted to build the Lord a proper temple. However, the Lord had other plans.
[00:00:25] He sent the prophet Nathan with a message for David,
[00:00:29] This is what the Lord says, You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.
[00:00:35] You can read that in 1 Chronicles 17.4.
[00:00:39] David's response tells us everything we need to know about his character.
[00:00:43] David's sevenfold prayer in the midst of a disappointment is a model prayer for all of us when we don't receive the answer from the Lord that we had hoped for.
[00:00:52] First, David acknowledged God's grace in his life.
[00:00:58] Who am I, sovereign Lord? And what is my family that you have brought me this far?
[00:01:05] David recognized that everything he had acquired and accomplished had come from the hand of the Lord.
[00:01:11] Second, David apprehended the greatness of God.
[00:01:16] There is no one like you and there is no God but you.
[00:01:20] Even after hearing no from the Lord, David was overwhelmed by the holiness of God.
[00:01:28] Third, David affirmed the Lord's goodness.
[00:01:32] And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself?
[00:01:40] Today we can look back to Calvary's Cross and offer our Savior the loudest praise.
[00:01:46] Fourth, David remembered the covenant.
[00:01:50] You have established your people Israel as your very own forever and you Lord have become their God.
[00:01:57] If you've surrendered to Christ, your name is irrevocably written in the Book of Life with His blood.
[00:02:04] Fifth, David took hold of the promises of God.
[00:02:08] And now Lord God keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house.
[00:02:15] God had promised David a descendant who would sit on his throne forever.
[00:02:20] That descendant of course was Jesus.
[00:02:24] Sixth, David announced the glory of God.
[00:02:27] Then people will say the Lord Almighty is God over Israel.
[00:02:31] David longed to see God's promise to him fulfilled not only for his glory, but for God's.
[00:02:39] Finally, David entreated his faithful God.
[00:02:43] Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant that it may continue forever in your sight.
[00:02:50] God had just denied David's request to build him a temple, but still David chased after the Lord with vigor.
[00:02:58] Let's pray together.
[00:02:59] Lord, thank you for the example of David as he faced an answer to prayer other than what he desired.
[00:03:07] Help us to respond to those situations as he did remembering that your ways are higher than ours.
[00:03:13] We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
