[00:00:08] Blessings Out of Blastings by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:12] There is a cycle often seen in the lives of God's people.
[00:00:17] Just as the brook dried up at the Kerith Ravine and ended that tranquil time, the season of
[00:00:23] plenty at Zarephath came to an abrupt end for Elijah.
[00:00:27] Tragically, the widow's son died, provoking her anger toward God and Elijah.
[00:00:33] The cycle of blessing followed by a blasting is not unusual for God's people.
[00:00:39] Often a great triumph is accompanied by a great trial.
[00:00:43] I experienced this in 1987 when we established our church.
[00:00:48] God blessed us in every way a church can be blessed.
[00:00:51] Twenty-eight people attended the first meeting in a hotel room.
[00:00:55] The number increased to sixty the next week and devoted believers continued to pour in.
[00:01:00] I was meeting with people morning, noon, and night, running to keep up with the phenomenal
[00:01:06] growth.
[00:01:06] But in 1989, I became seriously ill with double pneumonia.
[00:01:11] All I could do was lie on my back.
[00:01:14] God was hiding me, as he did Elijah, and putting me in a place to be quiet and listen.
[00:01:21] He taught me I could only minister to others if I would first minister to him.
[00:01:27] He taught me I could do nothing in my own strength, but everything in his.
[00:01:34] God will bring blessings out of the blastings every time if we will listen to his voice.
[00:01:42] Let's pray together.
[00:01:44] God, thank you for the reminder today that you have blessings for us even during difficult
[00:01:50] times.
[00:01:51] Help us to look for the blessings today.
[00:01:54] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
