Do you know where to turn in the midst of brokenness? Have you exchanged self-reliance for absolute trust in the living God?
In A Heart for God: Lessons from the Life of David, Dr. Michael Youssef takes you on a journey through the highs and lows of David’s life. As you explore his greatest victories and deepest failures in First and Second Samuel, you’ll see God’s faithfulness to use willing vessels for His glory. As you experience David’s most desperate cries in the Psalms, you’ll witness the power of a life completely surrendered to God. [00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You are listening to MY Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading The Way.
[00:00:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Awaiting The Eternal City by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_01]: An ambassador lives in the city that is not his home, while he may love his neighbors
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_01]: appreciate aspects of their culture and find a measure of happiness in his post, he knows that he's not really home.
[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: No matter where you live, if you're a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are not really home either.
[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Your home is heaven and your current assignment in this world is to be Christ ambassador as though God were making his appeal through you.
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Like an ambassador, your primary job is to represent your homeland well.
[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Your homeland, heaven, has a message for the residents of the city of man.
[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Except the free offer of salvation made possible by Jesus Christ and his death on the cross before it's too late.
[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Sadly, we often forget that this world is not our home, even the godliest among us can allow the problems and the pleasures of this earthly life to steal our focus from heaven.
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_01]: We become so concerned about the cares of this world that we make business plans, life plans, and retirement plans as though we're going to live forever.
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_01]: The Scripture is clear, only what you give to the Lord in this life will be waiting for you on the other side.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Where we invest our time, money, energy is an indication of our focus and too often we have our hearts set on the city of man rather than the city of God.
[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_01]: The early church lived and worked to glorify the name of God in this life because they were looking forward to the next.
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They planned for heaven and eternity. Their priority was holiness.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Ours is happiness. Their priority was sacrificing for God. Ours is often self satisfaction.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: They measured their success with an eternal perspective. Ours is often measured by how much we can accumulate.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_01]: True joy comes only to those who keep their eyes fixed on the city of God.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_01]: As the writer of Hebrews reminds us, for here we do not have an enduring city but we are looking for the city that is to come.
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's pray together. Father help us to keep our hearts in mind set on eternity with you.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: May our heavenward gaze serve to align daily routines and priorities with your kingdom.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And may we have the eyes to see how we can serve you and love others as your ambassadors in this world.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: We pray that's the name of Jesus, Amen.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: If today is devotional and courage to, we'd love to hear about it.
