[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading

[00:00:06] the Way. Apply the Word of God to Your Life by Dr. Michael Youssef.

[00:00:14] In the second stanza of Psalm 119, we read all about the protection of God's Word, what happens

[00:00:20] when you give the Word a home in your heart. There is power in the Word of God. Psalm 119

[00:00:28] tells us God's Word has power to cleanse us when we live according to its teachings. It has power to

[00:00:36] control our actions, keeping us from danger. And God's Word has power to correct when we start to go astray.

[00:00:44] The Word of God helps us put a guardrail around our thoughts, because that's where everything begins

[00:00:50] with our thought life. That's where the fight against sin begins. Scripture reminds us that God

[00:00:57] is sovereign, and that He is in control, and that He will have the last word. It reminds us we are the

[00:01:04] redeemed, blood-bought children of the living God, holding a special place in the heart of the King.

[00:01:11] For the Word of God to have preeminence in our lives, we have to apply it not just daily, but throughout

[00:01:17] the day. Lots of Bible-believing Christians agree on the importance of God's Word, but precious few

[00:01:24] actually read and apply it. Which brings me to three exercises to practice today, giving God's

[00:01:31] Word preeminence in your life. First, Psalm 119 tells us we must speak it. By verbalizing and sharing

[00:01:39] with others what you've learned from God's Word, the truth will sink deeper into your heart, strengthening

[00:01:45] your inner self far more than mere reading. Second, we must savor the Word. When you dwell on what a

[00:01:54] treasure the Scriptures are, what an inheritance of truth and hope, you will develop a posture of joy,

[00:02:01] and God's Word will occupy the forefront of your thoughts. Finally, we must substantiate the Word in our

[00:02:10] lives, meaning we demonstrate its value and truth by living it out. When faced with decisions, we make those

[00:02:18] decisions in light of God's will for us. We allow God's Word to constrain us as it did David when he could have

[00:02:25] taken Saul's life. We substantiate God's Word by trusting in his sovereign grace and love in all circumstances.

[00:02:33] The Word of God will strengthen you in times of temptation. It will sustain you when you are under

[00:02:40] pressure. So speak it, savor it, and substantiate it day by day. Let's pray together. Father, help us to

[00:02:50] practice these exercises to use the gift of your Word powerfully in our lives. We long for its truth to

[00:02:58] guard our hearts and minds to live out our faith to your glory. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
