[00:00:00] You are listening to My Devotional, the daily devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading
[00:00:06] the Way.
[00:00:08] Always on Your Lips by Dr. Michael Youssef Paul completes his appeal to us to put on the
[00:00:16] full armor of God in all six pieces with a bold command to pray, and pray in the Spirit
[00:00:23] on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
[00:00:27] You see, prayer is like fresh air in our lungs.
[00:00:33] Without it, we cannot really be helped by the armor of God.
[00:00:36] Our Lord knows that when the battle gets harder, and my goodness, it's getting harder now.
[00:00:42] If our lungs are not filled with the fresh air of prayer, we will get tired, weak, and discouraged.
[00:00:50] Prayer therefore is essential.
[00:00:52] With all the blessings and assurances God has poured out on us, it can be tempting to
[00:00:58] imagine we're unstoppable.
[00:00:59] In pride, we can become prayerless.
[00:01:02] Friend, do not think for a single moment that because you have every spiritual blessing in
[00:01:08] Christ, because you have the armor of God, and because you have learned a good deal about
[00:01:13] the scriptures, that you can take even a single breath without humble dependence on your heavenly
[00:01:19] Father.
[00:01:20] Notice that Paul says to pray on all occasions with all kinds of prayers for all the Lord's
[00:01:28] people.
[00:01:30] The frequency of all is very important.
[00:01:33] Is your situation grim?
[00:01:34] It's time to pray.
[00:01:36] Are things going well?
[00:01:38] It's time to pray.
[00:01:39] Don't feel like praying?
[00:01:41] It's time to pray.
[00:01:43] In another place, Paul wrote, pray continually.
[00:01:48] In other words, it's always time to pray.
[00:01:52] Now, this doesn't mean we never leave our prayer closet.
[00:01:55] Rather, to pray continually is to live with a deep awareness of God's presence.
[00:02:00] It means we remain surrendered to our Heavenly Father.
[00:02:03] When we hear of a need, we stop and pray immediately.
[00:02:06] When we experience a blessing, we stop right where we are and say, thank you, Father.
[00:02:12] When we see evil at work, we cry out to God on the spot.
[00:02:16] We don't wait until we have our quiet time.
[00:02:18] We pray in the moment.
[00:02:20] Paul also says we should pray in the Spirit, a call to be in harmony with the Holy Spirit.
[00:02:26] We are to pray in agreement with the Holy Spirit according to the Word of God for the will of
[00:02:31] God to be fulfilled in our lives and the lives of others.
[00:02:36] And we can take comfort that in our weakness, the Spirit himself intercedes on our behalf.
[00:02:43] Let's pray together.
[00:02:44] Lord, thank you for the gift of prayer.
[00:02:46] May we develop a moment-by-moment habit of coming to you in prayer in every situation.
[00:02:52] Thank you that your Spirit intercedes for us when we do not know how to pray.
[00:02:59] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
[00:03:01] Amen.
