[00:00:08] A Lamp and a Sword by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:14] When we wield the Word of God as a lamp into our feet and a sword against sin, we become
[00:00:19] more and more able to delight in God's presence.
[00:00:23] The Puritan John Owen once advised, Be killing sin or sin will be killing you.
[00:00:31] It's true.
[00:00:32] If we're not engaged in the battle against sin, we will become spiritually stagnant.
[00:00:37] So how do we kill sin?
[00:00:39] Not only is the answer found in the Word of God, it is the Word of God.
[00:00:43] In Ephesians Paul describes the armor of God and included this one offensive weapon,
[00:00:50] the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
[00:00:55] By keeping God's Word on our lips and in our hearts, we have a weapon at hand ready to
[00:01:00] attack sin and gain ground in pursuit of righteousness.
[00:01:05] But the Word of God is not just a weapon to wield against our sinful nature and the
[00:01:09] temptations of Satan and the world.
[00:01:12] It's also our comfort, our light in the darkness.
[00:01:15] When we stumble and fall, the gospel proclaims us yet victorious.
[00:01:20] God's Word affirms our peace with God through faith in Christ, who is our righteousness.
[00:01:25] We are no longer under law but under grace, no longer enemies but children of God.
[00:01:31] So we can delight in the presence of our Heavenly Father and trust Him to complete the good
[00:01:37] work He has begun in us.
[00:01:39] Let's pray together.
[00:01:40] Father, we thank You for making us Your children and arming us with Your truth.
[00:01:45] Help us to keep Your Word before us to light our way.
[00:01:49] Guide our hearts.
[00:01:50] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
