[00:00:07] A Heart Commitment by Dr. Michael Youssef
[00:00:11] Giving was a major emphasis of Paul's ministry, especially during this third missionary journey.
[00:00:17] He understood that generosity naturally leads to praise and worship of God.
[00:00:23] Unfortunately, when Paul thought of the Corinthian believer, he had to acknowledge that they
[00:00:28] had failed to keep their promises in the area of giving.
[00:00:32] The Corinthian believer had made a commitment to God.
[00:00:35] They had promised to support the poor through their gifts and offerings.
[00:00:38] However, when it came time to follow through, they did not fulfill their promise.
[00:00:43] Praise always requires a heart commitment.
[00:00:46] Giving requires the same action.
[00:00:48] If we fail to complete the promises we have made to God, our hearts will be saddened and
[00:00:53] we won't feel like praising Him.
[00:00:55] Therefore, before you make a commitment to give, ask God to show you what He wants you
[00:01:00] to do along with how much He wants you to give.
[00:01:03] Paul appealed to the Corinthians to fulfill their promise by reminding them of the grace
[00:01:08] that had been given to them by Jesus Christ.
[00:01:11] God's mercy, love, and forgiveness had been poured out in their lives, so Paul admonished
[00:01:16] them to finish the work.
[00:01:19] Like us, these believers had been given much, and it should not have been a burden to give
[00:01:24] back a portion of what God had given them.
[00:01:26] Every occasion we have to give to God needs to be viewed as an opportunity to praise Him
[00:01:33] for all that He's done for us.
[00:01:35] Let's pray together.
[00:01:36] Lord, how are you asking us to give in this season?
[00:01:40] We pray that we would not just have good intentions, but that we would act on what you are asking
[00:01:47] us to do.
[00:01:49] May your love compel us.
[00:01:51] We pray this in the name of Jesus.
