A Greater Good: July 13, 2024

Many Christians have the erroneous belief that if they just try hard enough to be good then they can escape the trials of life. In today’s devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef encourages us to consider how God might want to use trials in our lives for our good.

[00:00:00] You are listening to MY Devotional, the Daily Devotional from Dr. Michael Youssef and Leading The Way.

[00:00:08] A Greater Good, my Dr. Michael Youssef.

[00:00:13] Many Christians have the erroneous belief that if they just try hard enough to be good

[00:00:18] then they can escape the trials of life. But the Bible teaches us something completely different.

[00:00:24] The righteous person may have many troubles. However, we can find joy in the conclusion of this verse,

[00:00:32] but the Lord delivers him from them all.

[00:00:36] No matter what we face in life, God will be there with us.

[00:00:39] Only God can turn our worst tragedies into victories.

[00:00:44] When David wrote Psalm 3, he was hiding from his son, Abselin, who was plotting to dethrone him.

[00:00:50] David experienced a bitter betrayal, not only from his son, but also from some of his closest friends.

[00:00:57] His life was on the line and his heart was broken. David cried out,

[00:01:01] Lord, how many are my foes? How many rise up against me?

[00:01:07] Have you ever been betrayed by people you loved entrusted?

[00:01:11] Sometimes the emotional and spiritual wounds caused by another person can hurt far worse than any sword.

[00:01:19] One of Satan's favorite tricks is to cause dissension in our families, in our relationships, and in our churches.

[00:01:27] When we miraculously speak against another person or stir up rebellion,

[00:01:32] we become an abson in David's household.

[00:01:36] But sometimes these personal attacks on us can be used for the greater good.

[00:01:41] If you're experiencing a trial right now, ask God to show you how he wants you to use it.

[00:01:47] Are you being disciplined for a sin in your life? Confess and repent that sin today?

[00:01:53] Is your trial an opportunity to share your testimony?

[00:01:57] What may seem like a dark valley, maybe an open door, to share about Christ's grace and provision in your life?

[00:02:06] Let's pray together.

[00:02:08] God show us how you want us to use the trials we're going through today,

[00:02:11] forgive us for our sins and help us to be sensitive to your spirit.

[00:02:17] For opportunities to bring you glory in the midst of a difficult time.

[00:02:21] We pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
