Seasons of the Harvest: Embracing the Moment for Salvation and Love
Inspiration from The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn
We were sitting quietly under an olive tree nestled within the school’s garden, a place where the quiet whispers of nature seemed to echo divine truths. The teacher gently bent down and picked up an olive that had fallen to the ground, holding it delicately in his hand.
He then shared a profound insight:
“The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.”
He explained that Messiah told His disciples this about the harvest of salvation—a harvest that every child of God is called to reap. But on what harvest was He basing this?
“The harvest of Israel?” I asked.
He nodded. “Yes, but it’s more than just one harvest. It’s many harvests.”
He began to describe how Israel’s agricultural cycle included multiple harvests: the barley harvest in spring, the wheat, the fruits, figs, dates, pomegranates, olives, and grapes into autumn. Each had its season—its appointed time—and missing that window meant losing the opportunity forever.
He let the olive fall back to the ground.
“And so it is with the harvest of salvation,” he said. “It is not only one, but many. Every harvest has its appointed season. If you don’t reap it in that time, the season passes, and the opportunity is gone.”
“What are these harvests?” I asked.
He responded softly:
“The harvest of your loved ones—you have only a limited time to share God's love with them. The harvest of your friends, of those in other lands who need to hear salvation’s message. The harvest of acquaintances and those you will only briefly meet—they all have their seasons. People pass in and out of your life, and then they pass from this world. If you delay, the season will be over, and what you didn’t reap will be lost forever.”
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle.
“Make the most of your time,” he urged. “Lift up your eyes and see the fields around you—those ripe for harvest. Don’t wait to share the Gospel, to show love, to forgive, or to bless. Every season is fleeting, and only what you reap in its appointed time will remain.”
He looked at us with sincere eyes:
“Today is the day of the harvest. Share the good news. Show love. Forgive. Don’t wait. The season is only now.”
This echoes Scripture’s wisdom:
“To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
And reminds us of the urgency found in Jeremiah:
“The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” — Jeremiah 8:20
Jesus Himself said:
“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.” — Matthew 9:37
And in Luke:
“The harvest is great, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into His harvest.” — Luke 10:2
Reflection:
The seasons of the harvest are a divine rhythm, an urgent call to action. Every moment we delay is a missed opportunity—an eternal loss. Today, let us embrace the season we are in. Let us go into the fields around us with faith, love, and urgency.
Share the Gospel. Show kindness. Forgive. Pray. Because the harvest is ripe, and the time is now.
