The Price of the Priceless: A Reflection on Grace and Response

Welcome to Godstream Radio’s Scripture Blog, where we explore the depths of God's Word and the mysteries of His grace. Today, we delve into a profound parable that illuminates the incredible truth of salvation—"The Price of the Priceless." Inspired by The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn, this reflection invites us to consider the divine exchange at the heart of our faith.

The Parable of the Treasure in the Field

Imagine, says the teacher, if there was a hidden treasure in a field—so valuable that it was worth 100 times everything you owned. The catch? The field itself was for sale, and the price was everything you possessed. You sell all you have to buy that field, and inside, you find the treasure—priceless, beyond any worth you could calculate.

Now, what did it cost you? Everything you had. But did it really cost you anything? In one sense, yes—your possessions, your security, your plans. But in another, no—the treasure itself was free, beyond purchase, a gift of grace.

The Meaning Behind the Parable

This parable isn’t just about buying a treasure; it’s about the profound truth of salvation and eternal life.

The treasure* represents God’s salvation, eternal life, and His blessings—things no amount of work, effort, or good deed can earn. They are priceless, beyond any worth we could place on them.
The purchase
signifies the act of surrendering everything—our pride, our possessions, our plans—to gain what is beyond our reach. But here’s the divine paradox: the treasure is free*. It’s given not because of our worth, but because of God's grace.

The Response to the Priceless Gift

While salvation is free, it’s not without response. When someone truly recognizes the gift of God’s grace, they are compelled to respond.

The discovery of the priceless treasure:

Motivates us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Inspires us to love others as ourselves.
Calls us to forgive as we have been forgiven.
Urges us to give generously and live sacrificially.

The treasure, once truly found, transforms us. It leads us to give everything we have, to live out our faith with abandon—because we see, in the light of that treasure, that life itself is a gift to be used for God's glory.

Living the Priceless Life

If you have truly found the treasure—God’s grace and salvation—you cannot remain unchanged. The cost of the priceless is paid by Christ on the cross, but our response is to live a life of utmost value, freely and fully.

The apostle Paul echoes this in Philippians 3:7-8:
"But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."

And Peter reminds us that through God's divine power, we are partakers of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4), called to live lives that reflect the pricelessness of the gift we've received.

The Heavenly Exchange

This is the divine exchange:
He took our sin; we receive His righteousness.
He paid the price; we inherit the priceless.

It’s an exchange rooted in grace, demanding only our surrender and response.

The Call to Live Out the Priceless

In light of the divine gift, the challenge is clear:
"Pay the price of the priceless, give all you have and are, and live all out."
Seek to apprehend the field—embrace the kingdom of God—and live with the awareness that everything we have is a stewardship, a response to the greatest gift of all.

Remember: The treasure is free, but it demands everything. The priceless is ours to receive, and our response is to live in the light of that divine grace—fully, freely, and wholeheartedly.

Matthew 13:44 reminds us:
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."

Luke 18:22 challenges us:
"Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven."

Philippians 3:7-8 declares:
"I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."

2 Peter 1:4 assures us:
"He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature."

Closing Reflection

The priceless gift of salvation is offered freely by grace, but it calls us to a life of response—loving, giving, surrendering. Let us live in the light of the divine exchange, apprehending the field, and treasuring the gift beyond price.

Live all out. Apprehend the field. Embrace the priceless.
