Daily Scripture Reflection — Day 258
The Power of “As”: Living in the Identity of Who You Are to Be
Inspired by The Book Of Mysteries by Johnathan Cahn
“Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.” — Ephesians 5:1 (Berean Standard Bible)
Understanding “As” — The Key to Living by Faith
In the book of Ephesians, Paul exhorts us: “Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.” (Ephesians 5:1)
The teacher asked, “How would you understand and apply that?”
I answered, “Beloved children would imitate their fathers.”
He nodded and said, “That’s good. But it’s not just that you should imitate God because you are His children; it’s deeper.”
He explained that the word “as” in Greek is “Hoce,” which can be translated as “just like” or “in the same way as.”
So, the verse could be read as: “Be imitators of God just like beloved children.”
This subtle but powerful difference reveals that we are called not only to imitate God because we are His children but as children who live in the full realization of who they are destined to become.
Living as Who You Are to Become
How do we carry out this command?
First, we must understand what beloved children act, react, and live like.
Then, we are to live as if we already are those children—living by faith into our divine identity.
Ephesians 1:21-23 reminds us:
“He has raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He has put all things under His feet and made Him head over all things for the church, which is His body...”
You see, we're called to live as if we are already seated with Christ in heavenly places, reigning in power and authority—because that is our divine destiny.
The Example of Gideon: Living “As” the Champion
Gideon was living in fear, but an angel appeared and called him “Gibbor” — “Champion” in Hebrew.
Despite his current state, the angel addressed him as if he already embodied the greatness God destined him for.
Gideon had to live as a champion before he became one. When he stepped out in faith, living as the champion God called him to be, his life changed.
The secret of “as” is this:
Live now as if you are already who God says you are—victorious, righteous, powerful, and called for greatness.
The Power of “As” in Scripture
Judges 6:11-12**:
“Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon was threshing wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.” And the angel said to him, “The Lord is with you, mighty man of valor!”
Ephesians 5:1**:
“Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.”
Ephesians 1:21-23**:
“Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion... and has put all things under His feet and made Him head over all things for the church.”
The Mission: Live Now, as You Are to Be
Today, the Holy Spirit is calling you to live not according to your current limitations or past struggles but as the victorious, righteous, and powerful person you are destined to become.
Live in the power of “as”:
As a champion of faith
As a child of God seated in heavenly places
As one called to do great and mighty things for Him
Remember:
“Live as if you are already that which you are to become, and by faith, you will manifest it.”
A Prayer of Faith and Declaration
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word that calls us to live as the person You have designed us to be.
Help us to see ourselves through Your eyes—to live not just by what we see now, but by what You say we are to become.
Lord, strengthen our faith to step out in boldness, living as victorious, righteous, and powerful children of God.
May we walk in the fullness of our divine identity, knowing that as we live in the power of “as,” You are transforming us into Your likeness.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings in Christ,
